Draft Order & Needs of Teams...

Kingster

Hall of Famer
Leaving aside the top 2 picks, from what I've read on other boards, etc., these are what I perceive to be the needs of the following 7 teams:

3) Atlanta - pg. Do they trade for a vet (Bibby) or go for a 3 year project in Conley? They've been in the dog-house for sooooo long, I have a hard time believing they pick Conley here.

4) Memphis - lost out on the center. They go for a POWER forward to complement Gasol - Horford

5) Boston - shot blocker, center. Nobody fits the bill. They must trade. There is a ton of pressure on Ainge to get better NOW.

6) Milwaukee - they need defense. Brandan Wright? Or do they get crazy and go for Artest?

7) Minnesota - they need every position except pg and power forward.

8) Charlotte - they need a shot maker. It's got to be Brewer if he's available. If not, maybe they deal.

9) New York - they need a small forward who can play D. Artest? Or Julian Wright? They also would seem inclined for a trade.

Boston - i doubt boston is trading this pick. its yi or noah to me.

Charlotte - their pick lands them in the sf category, but i think that depends on what is going to happen with wallace.

Chicago - im HOPING chicago takes hawes, puts him aat center, shifts wallace to the 4, which he can play (hes like 6'7", so its not like hes too big), and brings pj off the bench

Good stuff from realgm Kingster. I'm still wondering why Hawks didn't take either Deron Williams or Chris Paul. Wish they trade for Bibby, but I'm sure they'll be in the lottery for next year's guards.

I don't know why people think Atlanta picks Conley with the third pick, that's way overdrafting for him. If they want Conley they'll trade down, drafting Conley at 3 is a waste of the very good luck they just received.

i doubt that atl even trades down... they'll probably draft a center like yi and sign a fa pg... maybe they'll go after blake.

If Boston wants to keep Pierce, they've got to make a trade for a vet. He's tired of waiting, and so are the fans. They lose Pierce, they lose fans unless they make a trade.

Atlanta has the #11 pick too, that's within range of Conley, Law, or even Javaris Crittenton. They don't have to pick a PG with the #3. I see them going for an upgrade over Shelden Williams and Zaza.

As for Boston, they used Al Jefferson at center last season with Gomnes/Powe/other at PF. Jefferson is better at C than at PF anyway. They can go for a PF to partner Jefferson. I think a good PF works out just fine for them.

Charlotte, they desparately need a big body with May oft-injured, Prezec too soft (and oft-injured), and Ely gone. They don't need a SF/SG cuz even if Gerald Wallace leaves, they have Walter Hermann to step in nicely; not to mention they aren't writing off Adam Morrison yet.

As far as I can see, all three teams are looking for big bodies. Which doesn't spell out well for our chance of getting one.

I agree with Kingster, boston will most likely trade their pick if they want to keep pierce. If Boston keeps their pick i can't see boston keeping pierce, he is making almost 20 million a year , if he is not young and the team is not winning then whats the point. KG and J'Oneal are in the same boat, it already happened with Iverson.

I see Alt trading their pick also but i think they move up and try to get two picks this way they could get Mike Conley and another player to add to their third. They don't think alt wants bibby they are rebuilding still, i think the only teams will to trade for bibby are playoff looking to win now.

I don't think that sac could get draft up in this years draft these players are just to good.

Atlanta might still be rebuilding but they might also want to make that step into the play offs in the East. They don't get next year's pick (it goes to PHX unprotected) so they might be willing to make a push into the play offs next year.

I still think Boston is the best bet to draft that pick. Hopefully we can get it somehow and then possibly trade it with Atlanta so they get their PG @5 and we get the pick of the PFs.

Did you see what Shenden did this year in the last few weeks? He was a rookie last year. I don't think they will be looking for someone to replace him just yet. Hell, if they want to trade him than give him to the Kings!! I would take Williams any day.

The last 8 games Williams got minutes in he averaged 12.8ppg 11.8rpg 2.0spg 1.2apg 1.0bpg. thats the defensive PF we need...

To use John McCain's style of Q&A: Are they unhappy with Williams? No. Are they looking for an athletic big? Yes. The biggest issue with Shelden is that the Hawks thought he could play C, they are wrong. Now, they're stuck with Shelden on the bench while Marvin Williams and Josh Smith run the frontcourt. They want an athletic big guy, preferably a C, but also can be a PF who can steal some mins at C to run with the high flyers. You should note that Shelden only got those mins after Joe Johnson went down and Marvin Williams were moved to Johnson's spot. Bottom line is, as talented as Shelden Williams is, the Hawk has a hard time figuring out how to use him.

Btw, the Hawks would trade Shelden or Childress for the right price. But do we have what the Hawks want?

Sounds like they could use Horford, if they're going to play an up tempo game Horford can definitely play C. He is undersized for a C but so is Amare and Shelden isn't nearly as atheltic as Horford.

Hortford sounds like a good fit. The fans at Hawks' board are also gaga over Noah (cuz he plays center) and Brandon Wright (though many afraid he can't play C and ends up like Shelden Williams). A few did suggested taking Conley, who I still think is overreaching a bit.

But hey, I'd love to be in the Hawk's position... :o

While Wright can run the floor very well and is very athletic both him and Noah are way too weak to play center. Horford is their man, especially defensively and on the boards. Horford is the most polished player in both of those areas, while Wright has the tools it's hard to tell how he'll develop there.

I personally think Boston would consider a Wally/Theo/#5 for Brad Miller/Mike Bibby...because it would help them win now by addressing their 1/5 positions without mortgaging their future core of Jefferson/Green/West/Gomes.

I don't think there's any way on earth they'd do that. They need an interior defender alongside Jefferson, and Bibby/Miller makes them amazingly bad defensively.

I can actually see that happening. Totally forgot about Williams. I would take Shelden at PF for the Kings in a heartbeat though. I love the guys defensive presence. This guy gets a hand on the ball all the time.. Seeing him on league pass the last couple weeks this guy can flat out defend, and he is more athletic than he looks. Kind of reminds me of a bigger corliss that can rebound, and block shots.

No way Boston would trade.. I can see Wally for Brad straight up though. But I really want to see Francisco start next year, and given a chance. I really like our young players.. K-Mart, Francisco, Douby, Price, and Williams are all cheap for the time being, and they seem to work well together. Very athletic team as well. I can see Douby becoming a Leandro Barbosa type player. Francisco (when he plays minutes) and K-Mart get to the FT line at will so they are both pretty damn efficient. Francisco also brings shot blocking on the weak side, and rebounding from teh SF position. Even if Williams, and Price don't work out we still have a SG/SF/backup PG spot filled for years to come. Now lets get some deals out there that are realistic to get us the dang PF of the future!

Eh..not at all sure the guy can play. Really disappointing as a rookie. Looks small and slow and lacking in saavy to make up for it. The Corliss comparison is not bad, but Corliss without the offense = ick. Finished the season strong though, so there is hope. but no way I would install him as my starting anything until he showed a lot more. A LOT more.
