Draft day trades could leave us with Joe Alexander

#1
Because of the Yi for RJ trade, Milwaukee is now inclined to not take a SF in Alexander and take best available guard instead, which will likely be Westbrook. According to DX Charlotte is debating between Westbrook and Augustin, this would make Augustin an obvious pick for Charlotte. DX also reports that Randolph is at the top of NJ's draft list and now they have no problem taking a SF with Yi now at the PF; it makes for a big athletic frontline for them. So this could leave us with Joe Alexander :(

The Nets and Portland are rumored to have some sort of deal going -- if Alexander is still there at #10 I imagine they'll jump up to get him. Can't imagine that he'd fall to us, and if so, hopefully there's some sort of a trade to either clear some of our SFs or ship him to another team that wants him.

EDIT: Actually, now the Nets need a SF. Maybe they'll still reunite Alexander and Yi, only in New Jersey if Alexander falls.

I really can't see Milwaukee taking a PG. SG maybe, but not PG. They already have 3 servicable PG's in Williams, Bell, and now Sessions

I think Alexander is definitely falling past 9, I don't think the nets will take him with Randolph likely being on the board. If the Portland trade goes down so they can get Alexander it's only on the belief that the nets think they'll still be able to get Randolph at 13. So either way we're F'd unless NJ doesn't believe we'll take Randolph when we would. I think Alexander is going to us.

Actually now that I think of it. If NY takes Gallinari instead of Bayless, Lopez could fall to Milwaukee which could push Augustin back to us. Also, I forgot that Gallinari could fall to us. So yea, we'd be getting either Alexander or Gallinari if NY takes Bayless. If NY takes Gallinari then we're getting either Alexander or Augustin, and an outside chance of Bayless.

So let's see where we are:

1. Chicago - Derrick Rose
2. Miami - Michael Beasley
3. Minnesota - OJ Mayo
4. Clippers (from Seattle) - Eric Gordon (per Chad Ford)

That seems set

The key is whether Memphis trades their pick to New Jersey, which has been rumored. If they do, Gallinari probably goes 5 (fills the SF spot vacated by Jefferson). If not, Love probably goes 5.

Then the key becomes New York -- do they take Westbrook? Bayless?

Sonics will take Lopez at #7 or possibly Bayless if New York takes Westbrook.

And then things get really confusing at #8. Now that the Bucks have Jefferson do they still draft Alexander? Do they go with Anthony Randolph to shore up PF?

Okay, I think I've narrowed it down pretty good. Barring NJ trading up, I think if NY picks Gallinari we got Augustin/Alexander; and if NY picks Bayless then we got Gallinari/Alexander.

I don't know if MIL thinks Randolph is a PF though, they've only been rumored with him when they needed a SF.

What if NY picks Westbrook?
Then my head will explode :D

Uh, I don't know. I don't think they will pick him over Bayless, but I guess it's possible. NY may have leaked all this crap about Gallinari in order to get Seattle to feel safe to move down and eliminate the threat of Bayless going before them. If they wanted Westbrook he's all theirs and I think it would be assumed that they'd wanted him all along.

Moving up to take Westbrook? That doesn't make any sense to me. Never trust nbadraft.net even when compared to Chad Ford. Gordon makes sense if they believed Gordon's agent that he won't fall past Memphis.

Or Westbrook makes sense if they think New York would take him at #6. Tough call.

I guess, but would they really like Westbrook so much more than Gordon that they'd move up 3 spots to get him?

I think now I can see NY liking Westbrook more than Bayless since Westbrook has more versatility in D'Antoni's system than Bayless would defensively.

I think the only thing that is set is Derrick Rose to Chicago

Who knows what Miami is going to do

This is the most hectic draft night I can remember. Usually the dealing doesn't start 'til after the draft begins, this year there's been loads and it hasn't even begun.

Exciting times for the teams making moves.

The Bucks' starting lineup is set. Whomever they draft is going to be a backup anyway, so why wouldn't they stick to the plan and draft Alexander?

Both DX and nbadraft.net send Gallinari to Knicks so unless Jersey moves up to 5th pick 5 out of 6 first picks appear to be set.

Why does it seem like everyone else's trades always affect the Kings in a negative way...well except the Jason Kidd trade. :D

I was so happy to know that Alexander would be off the board with Milwaukee and now it might not happen. Someone else needs to take this guy so Petrie doesn't have the potential to screw things up. The last thing we need is another small forward...and one that can't shoot to boot.

D'Antoni like Gordon though.. Well he likes Gallinari too so who knows.. If I had to guess if Gordon or Gallinari were both available at the Knicks pick they will take Gordon.

With today's trades, I think Joe Alexander might actually be picked by his favorite NBA team. I wonder which team can that be?

NBA.com said:
Alexander was a basketball nut, a huge fan of Jason Williams and the Sacramento Kings, but he didn't get to watch much in Beijing.
