The titles are all meaningless. They could hire somebody and call them the Head Pimp and call Vlade the Big Dog and it would not matter. NBA teams just make up whatever name they want for various positions. Petrie was the GM for 20 years without ever actually being the GM if I recall. All that matters is who's got the decisionmaking authority. If the new guy does, then that truly is the GM and Vlade is a figure head. Given Vlade's response to that at Real Madrid, I rather doubt he'd go for it here. If Vlade keeps the decisionmaking power and the new guy just runs the day to day, then he's the assistant gerbil, no matter his title.

Now THAT's the kind of clarifying that can be a benefit to the fanbase!
Use the access you have to clear things up when one of the innumerable contradictions comes up about this franchise.

I've been a moderator with Brickie for over a decade. While I do not claim to know how he thinks, I do know how he feels about Nancy Lieberman, Elston Turner, Corliss Williamson and Doug Christie.

At least I think so. I have no doubt whatsoever that Brick will correct me if I'm wrong. :p

What I mean is Woj has an awful "rumors record" about the Kings. Particularly last summer when he launched several rumors that were not only false but also detrimental to the Kings.
Clearly there were agendas and manipulation. I know Woj is considered one of the best NBA journalist but, for me, he lost a ton of credibility.
 
No thanks on bringing back the 2002 Kings to run the franchise. That team was great fun but people need to let it go. Holding on to the glory days of a second place team is not the best path to move the franchise forward. Time to start new, fire Karl and get Cousins and Gay out of here. I have seen enough of this heartless crap.
 
Doug Christie's comments after the Pelicans game were right on. He described the Kings' performance from the point of view of a former Kings' player not as a commentator. He should have a future in being a broadcaster or coach. What ever he wants.

Christie's passion for this game is really 2nd to none.

Just listen to him for a bit, and you'll know what I'm talking about. The guy wants this team to succeed. Can't say the same about Karl.

Given that the #1 qualification of an NBA coach has nothing to do with X's and O's, but rather just whether they can lead and inspire their guys, there is an interesting argument there with Christie. Would a team he coached really ever come out and just shuffle through one like this? There are a number of countervailing factors though.

-- no experience. But he wouldn't be the first. And traditionally how you handle that is by putting an experienced top assistant or old former head coach next to him as lead assistant to help him through the first year or two.
-- would the rah rah get old? There is a tendency to think that Doug's rah rahing could be like an overly perky cheerleader. Inspiring for a while, but then beginning to wear thin. But that didn't appear to be the case when he was a player.
-- he's got some shaky in his past. As an announcer its not talked about because its not relevant, but this is a guy who's psycho wife used to tail him around the country and not let him even meet another woman's glance. A few years ago they were producing porn flicks together and Doug was helping her knit sequin purses. As long as things are going well that stuff should not matter either, but if things go poorly the narrative of Kings are a joke and hired a joke will quickly become standard fare.

I agree. Interesting read regarding his wife. Didn't know much about that. Gut feeling though, I think this can work out. Christie knows about ball movement. He consistently makes a point about sharing the ball knowing that the ball will work its way back to you, and working to get the best shot. Not to mention, his passion for defense.

Being unselfish and playing for the team. Sacrificing and holding each other accountable. Those things really give me goosebumps because, if the team played this way, who knows what our record could've been.

Christie after Karl would be complete opposites as far as energy and the idea of team. Karl is about Karl and Christie is about team. Karl is just not a young man anymore and add in the health over the years.....Christie is a human Red Bull drink.
 
Christie was my favorite King of the 'Golden Era' and I enjoy listening to him in the booth or on the broadcast.

But let's just say that I'm gun-shy right now when it comes to head-coaches, and I don't know how well Christie would do in the roll.

Here is the way I see it in terms of the new Regime.

At first we had the right player (DMC) and the right coach (Malone) to build around. Unfortunately we had the wrong Owner and wrong GM.
Now we have the right player (DMC), the right GM (Vlade), and hopefully the right owner...if he's learned his lesson after letting our team get destroyed.
So going into next season...we just need that coach to come in and complete the puzzle....and if we miss on the coach, we probably have to go back to the drawing board for another re-build.

Could Christie be that guy?
Perhaps....and I would be rooting with everything I have for it to work out.

But man, I would love to bring in a more defensive-minded coach who has had success in the past while playing a style of basketball which would best utilize our team's strengths and who has Cousins' respect and is no-nonsense enough to keep it.

If that coach isn't out there (or if the coach is out there but would rather coach for a more functional organization), and if the thought is that Christie could be that guy, then go for it. But I would hope that other candidates are looked at first, before we bring in someone who hasn't had any experience.

If we were to win the lottery, we would still be better off than staying where we are.(currently seventh) If we win the lottery, then obviously Philly would swap places with us, but at worse we would still pick before the seventh spot, and we could be as high as the second spot.

The best case scenario would be Philly getting the #1 pick and the Kings getting the #2 pick. Functionally that's no different from the Kings getting #1, Philly getting #2 and the Sixers using the pick swap but it would still feel much worse.

The only thing I can't decide is whether I'd rather have the Lakers get the third spot in the lottery, thus keeping their pick and not letting the Sixers get more talent (there's still one more pick swap opportunity) or if I'd prefer the Lakers to end up in the fourth slot, transferring the pick to Philly and not giving the Lakers another piece.

Who am I kidding? I will always root for the worst result for the Lakers.

I would like to see that, with the proviso that Doug Christie, Nancy Lieberman and Corliss Williamson be considered for his staff. I think Corliss and Nancy have earned that right, and I think Doug's ties to the legacy of the team and his total commitment to defense would pay immediate dividends.

What makes a good coach is the ability to teach what they know, and to be inspirational. The second part is the magic part. Every player that has played in the NBA knows how to play the game. Only a few have the ability to impart that knowledge. Doug may well fall into that select group. He's a terrific communicator, and you can see on occasion that if he were in charge, he wouldn't tolerate some of the nonsense he see's on the court. He was almost beside himself after the game last night coming close to uttering a few obscenities on air.
