Dorell Wright for a mini-gunner?

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Word is that the Sixers want to add a bench gunner to their team. Largely I think because of the failure of Nick Young (who I want absolutely no part of -- like KMart's younger anemic and more selfihs younger brother). In any case, that would be Thornton, but they have nothing they'd be willing to move worth Thorton. What we do have though is a trio of minature shotaholics. One of those is experienced and currently working well with Reke by suppressing hsi instincts, so I'd take Brooks off the table. But IT could be a nice change of pace guard for them. I think Collins would hate Jimmer's defense, but same theory there. They basically need a Lou Williams replacement. As for us...we didn't seem to have na interst in Wright last year, which was odd given that he had a career year gunning threes for Smart in 2010-11.

Dorell earns $4.1mil, and is an ender. To match we'd have to add in Travis Outlaw's contract with the mini-chucker, and Philly would have to be willing to absorb the extra year. Outlaw would maybe help them cover for the loss of Wright's size as backup SF...or so we could pitch it unless they have any recent game tape of him.

So Dorell Wright for IT + Outlaw? or for Jimmer +Outlaw?

Potentially what that might do, in theory, if we've given up the small guard nonsense, is make Salmons the backup PG, Wright the starting SF. We'd get much bigger and more defensive in one small move.

Starters
6'11" Cousins
6'11" Thompson
6'9" Wright
6'5" Evans
6'0" Brooks

Bench
6'6" Hayes
6'9" Robinson
6'9" Johnson
6'4" Thornton
6'7" Salmons

Potentially at least. In one move potentially getting better defensively at 2 of the 10 rotation spots -- starting SF and backup PG. Reducing the undersized defensive problems to 3: Brooks, TRob and Thornton. Getting more veteran, and putting two absolutely prolific 3pt shooters on either side of Reke -- in 2010-11 Wright led the entire NBA in 3pt makes and attempts. In 2009-10 Brooks did the same.

That's crazy, I almost posted the same thing right now. I think it's got potential for both teams, though I'm not sure IT is the guy they'd want size wise, which is why despite the management and many fans here who severely overated him last year, IT probably has no real trade value. But I think it's worth a call.

I like it. There was no way the GSW were going to trade Wright to the Kings. They would have to watch him light it up from the 3 point line and make space for Evans and Cousins to operate. I also think Salmons makes a pretty good PG.

Sigh...

Unfortunately, we have Petrie as our GM. He is so lazy to exert effort to think harder of such little simple trade that clearly make sense for the franchise and worse make this kind of trade happen.

I now appoint you Mr. Bricklayer as our next GM for the Kings.

Dorell Wright is ok, but I'm trying to see if I can pry Jared Dudley from Phoenix. Better defender, and with Salmons' resurgence our need for an offensive minded SF is lessened.

ehhhh.. I like the trade but I cannot see Philly doing it. They go 8 deep (consistent minutes) right now and while Nick Young is in a bit of a slump, he's better than his % indicates. If anything, I can see them looking for a rebounder. Maybe if we were to toss in Hayes and Jimmer and snag Wright and maybe a player from a 3rd team or something.. But straight up I cannot see Philly doing that.

I didn't just come up with the idea on my own, this is what inspired it:

So I looked and said, well they already have Nick Young, so how much more pop do you need? but Nick has sucked, and since you rarely are looking for a frontcourt player as your "bench scorer", they already had a pure scorer at SG there, got me thinking they must mean "bench pop", and given that they lost Lou Williams over the summer, that sort of quick ballhandling/hitter might have been what Collins is hinting at. And those we have.

Id do the suggested trade without hesitation. Dorrell Wright could be a big difference maker on this team. We could greatly benefit from a tall 3pt shooting small forward.

I sincerely hope that one game does not equal a Salons resurgence.

"Resurgence" here meaning being competent offensively in his role while still giving us something on D. If Salmons can play like he's been since becoming a starter then our need for an offensive SF like Wright is much lessened. I'd much rather target a bigger SF who can hit the three. Wright has size but isn't much of a defender.

Problme is that there virtually are no big 3pt shooting threes who also defend and who could be remotely available...except Tayshaun Prince. Who I mentioned another trade for elsehwere. :)

'Sides, I've never thought of Wright as a bad defender. You start out under Pat Riley for 4 years how could you be? :)

From the POV of the article and yourself it looks like they need a guard. If I was Philly I would try to grab a rebounder first then a guard second but that's just me. Maybe they would do it for Chuck Hayes, but then again the whole point of this imo is to clear a guard from our roster.

Not just you -- I did not say I agreed with Collins, and I think he's being silly if he thinks his backcourt is the problem with Bynum out. But...he's their coach, not me. So if he wants a little chucking guard, hey, who am I to gainsay him? We've got a nice selection for him.

There's that whole problem of Wright just not being all that good or an improvement over Salmons. Unless we're looking to trade for a more permanent solution at SF, I don't see any reason to replace Salmons at this point. He's been an excellent spot-up shooter (55% FG and 55% 3pt), he makes an effort to get others involved when he's asked to create, his plays passable defense and most importantly, he stays out of the way of Reke and Cousins on offense. It's not a coincidence that we're playing our best offensive basketball when we have 3 guys surrounding Reke and Cousins who defer to them but can make shots when called upon.

Hayes is not a good rebounder. You also can't run him out there with Thaddeus Young because you give up too much size that way.

I can see Collins taking Jimmer, and teaching him to foul with purpose. If Danny Ainge could be a thug, no reason Jimmer can't.

Yah, I was just throwing that name out there. He's the only big man we have that I would trade right now. If Hayes were to play with Hawes it wouldn't be a huge deal (size wise), but I see where you are coming from. I can't see them wanting Hayes. They would probably want Thompson or Robinson.
