Done Deal - Sacramento/Minny -- Sheldon and Bobby Brown Traded

Done

The Kings have agreed on a trade to send forward Shelden Williams and point guard Bobby Brown to Minnesota in exchange for fourth-year guard Rashad McCants and veteran big man Calvin Booth, according to two league sources.
On the financial front, the deal takes the Kings off the hook for the $736,420 owed to Brown next season (player option) while giving them two players who have expiring contracts in McCants ($2.6 million, restricted free agent this summer) and Booth ($1.1 million).

Ok Duh. I was focusing on other things and skimming. Somehow I didn't see that Bobby Brown was actually in the deal.

I know a few people at the Palms and Palms place who have been laid off, because the Palms is hemorrhaging money. Of course all of Vegas is bleak right now, MGM had to sell TI because they needed cash.

But if this was really just to save $800,000 on Bobby Brown's contract we will still have to pay somebody something for that roster spot. Even if we pick up someone for the Veteran Minimum won't the Maloof's still be on the tab for $500,000?

Also this is depressing to me since for Mike Bibby we got exactly nothing. I guess that is better than Webber since for him we got less than nothing.

Wrong way to look at the Bibby thing -- this actually keeps the Bibby trade alive, as we now parlay Sheldon into McCants. And for people who do not know, these were McCants' numebrs last year:

75gms 26.9min 14.9pts (.453 FG% .407 3pt% .748 FT%) 2.7reb 2.2ast 0.9stl 0.2blk 2.3TO

The guy has some real talent. This trade is not a capitulation, although we certainly might just let him walk. But talentwise McCants >> Sheldon + Brown. Just a question of whether he has grown a brain or not.

Put another way, if we had turned Bibby into McCants and a pick rather than Sheldon and a pick, that would have looked like a pretty good rebulding deal -- young guard with talent. Now we basically have, just a year late.

Kenny isn't playing. I don't get how people aren't used to him by now. He's not doing any harm. He'll be an expiring next year. Meanwhile, Udrih is stinking it up, expensively.

Is McCant really nuts?? like Ron Artest psycho nuts or like Charles Barkeley in a harmless way nuts? The guy seems to kill the Kings every time.

I think KT will be in the rotation... next season. After the 50 or so PFs we have expired and there'll be just JT, Hawes, Noc, and KT.

Let's just hope Shelden and Bobby help the wolves enough that they don't fall below us and steal the #1 pick. Without Al Jefferson I don't see them winning anymore games. Of course, that would also require us to win 7 more games which I don't see happening either.

Unless of course we do trade Nocioni to Boston and import like 2 or 3 more big men...:p;)

Check out the personnel forum..

Back of the envelope calculation has us at $46 Million in salaries next year with us needing to pick up 3 players. So unless he wants to come back for the minimum I don't see it happening. The bright side is we won't have another MLE scrub for the fifth year in a row.

It would be great if he does, since this year Petrie has put together a collection of shooters who can't shoot. It would be great to have a 3 point threat to replace Bobby next year.

In a few months, K9 becomes "Kenny Thomas' Expiring Contract" ... and that's a team jesery I'd buy, gold and all.

It's a good trade for the reason that we're getting a young and talented player. Think a younger version of Cuttino Mobley here. The guy has got a bunch of scoring options, but shows little semblance of passing ability. I think he can play D well at spurts, but it's really on and off--he needs a good mentor here, but I don't think he'll get that with us. So another scorer off the bench--which is good because we needed one after losing Salmons, and this one is only 24 years old.

I'm not sure if McCants is a player conducive to winning (it's really, really questionable at this point with his game/attitude), but it's worth taking a shot given that we need the scoring punch, we need another guard, and he's young enough to be part of this nucleus. The good thing is that we could choose not to resign him if things don't mesh well after the year, so we'll ese about that. But by far, the most "name" player we have gotten from any of the trades. Will get minutes for us right away off the bench as well.

A concern here is that we lost our backup "PG"--Bobby Brown--and our best passer on the team--Brad Miller. In return, we got no one, essentially, with good passing skills--Nocioni has little court vision, McCants is pure selfishness--so I wouldn't be too surprised if we became last in the league in assists here. We have no point guard, and McCants is not one. Hopefully we can pick someone off the waiver wire, or make another trade in these two hours remaining.

Well they just won last night. Its going to be a struggle, but they are 7 games up on us and don't sleep on Kevin Love -- it was really he, and not Jason who had the most right to complain about the rookie team snub. He's a walking double double with the minutes.

Just read on espn.com trade chat that the kings and celtics are talking nocioni for tony allen, glen davis, brian scalebrine, and patrick obryant.

Yeah, being discussed in the personnel forum -- Amick is reporting now that Petrie would rather keep the old guy with the bad contract.

The Wolves on the road beat the Heat last night.

the guy seems like an immature headcase, but at least itll provide some new product on the floor. I wasnt his biggest fan, but then watching those youtube videos of him getting T'd up for dunks, well...maybe he'll grow up soon:rolleyes:

I liked Bobby Brown a lot...I thought he was the kind of player who could improve and be productive.

I liked him too, but all we were talking about with him was the sort of potential you had with athletic gunner guards who can score and potentially make an impact on D. They litter the league and litter free agency all the time, so there's nothing new. Maybe had he been more productive he would've been kept, but looking at his season in a continuum it was just horrible shooting and improving but ultimately wavering defense. He's a nice guy and it's nice having him temporarily, but we're looking for results in our youngsters, but his incremental improvements were very small.

Just did a little research on this McCants fellow, and he seems like a likeable guy off court and a good player on court. He has his own clothing line YBG (Young Black Gifted). But as I watch his highlights I see every time he dunks over someone or in their face he gets T'd up.

He got his career high against us...I wonder how Petrie noticed him? hmmm
