Does Anybody Want Artest?

Kingster

Hall of Famer
We traded Peja for him when Peja had value. We were told - I remember Napier's comments exactly - that managment said that they weren't too worried about getting him because if "something happened" with him they could still trade him. Well, something did happen with him, and as of 8:33 PM on draft night we still have him. Apparently, GMs around the league aren't giving chips and dip for this guy. Now, we are sitting with an asset that one could reasonable argue has NEGATIVE value. Why? Because he is such a disruptive force in the lockeroom that he is going to cause more problems for Theus and the young guys that we are trying to develop than he can possibly be worth to us on the floor.

im still sitting here wondering how the **** warriors got BRANDON WRIGHT for JRICH, Artest is 2x as good as j rich, why didnt pietrie get on that.

there is a simple answer to your question and that is no. Based on talent, yes teams would over pay for him. Based on his recent actions, teams run away. His actions off the court have dropped his value low and the fact that he plays as if he is Kobe indicates he is selfish and teams dont want that. As much as we might not want to trade artest for garbage players or what have you i feel like in the end we will have no choice but to.

a) no, he's not 2x as good.

b) he's a team wrecker.

c0 you just don't know with our front office anymore. Rarely are things done that seem like they could/should happen.

And why exactly would Charlotte do that deal instead of the one that they did?!

JRich is a SG which is what they NEED! He is a scorer. Artest is a SF and not as good a scorer as JRich. Pluss Charlotte has Gerald Wallace at SF and they want to keep him. JRich is a MUCH MUCH better fit at Charlotte than Ron would have been.

It takes 2 to tango. Just because the deal might have been good for the Kings, it doesn't mean that Charlotte would bite.

Not to mention the fact that Charlotte got a 2nd round pick from Golden State that turned into a nice project big.

We had NO chance with what we had to offer.

why in the hell would we do it. Wright hasn't shown me that he is worth Justin Williams much less Ron Artest. You guys are absolutley getting ridiculous with this now.

Bobcats are morons, it's as simple as that..not only did they give away a franchise big away for an overpaid SG, they also cleared of about 35-40 million off of the Warriors payroll for the next 4 years. MORONS, absolute MORONS. THis is why the East sucks..they give away good players for trash.

Jason Richardson is hardly trash. Guy has one injury year and suddenly everybody forgets he's a 20+ pt scorer, and not that old either.

He's trash relatively when you compare his contract length, size, injury status, position that he plays and that he shoots free throw below 65% as a SHOOTING guard. Give me Brandon Wright ANY night of the year over Jason Richardson for the next decade, thank you very much. Bobcats are morons.

If J-Rich is old, Kobe Bryant must be ancient!

The Bobcats greatly lacked offense. Making a move for a high-scoring SG makes a lot of sense.

Richardson is all of 26 (Kevin for comparison is 24, all of 2 years younger), and while hampered by knee injuries last eyar, the season before he averaged 23.2pts 5.8rebs 3.1ast and 1.3stl. Who the hell cares about his FT shooting? What a thing to focus on. The guy is a major OG, and instantly their leading scorer. Plugs a major major hole in their lineup, fits right in at 26 with Okafor and Wallace (both age 25), and in general gets them ready to seriously compete in the East for a long time.

Golden State looks stronger for next year. And then Seattle got the best of their deal with the absolute gutless Ainge. All of which means the Kings are going to being getting pounded even more in the West next year.

Well, much as I think both moves are warranted, seeing Ray Allen, Jason Richardson and Zach Randolph all flow out of the West in one night may alleviate all the young rooks coming out that way to beat on our heads for the next 15 years.

Yup I agree, our best strategic move might be to move out East. There is a bunch of idiots running franchises in the Eastern Conference. At least we could compete then.

I don't know about next year. Dealing Ray Allen (one of the best shooters in the league) for Jeff Green and Delonte West doesn't make the Sonics better this year. Durant will yes. Trading your starting SG for a project in BWright (who many have said has a questionable work ethic and is the only player other than Korelev to weigh what he weighs and be over 6'9) doesn't help the Warriors immediately this year either. Don't get me wrong, that potential is there to be very very good, but next year, I see him more fighting with Patrick O'Bryant for PT.

Let's also keep in mind, the offseason JUST started. The Kings have plenty of time to make moves (which I'm betting they will).

Well, you almost said it, but not quite. I'll say it for you:

Let's Wait and See:D

I know I could be a millionare if I could somehow patent that phrase for the next several weeks.

Let's put it this way. I see Seattle next year having the potential to be better than last. After year 2 or 3 they will be much, much better, imo. I don't think the Warriors lose much in year 1 in their deal, and again, after year 1, Wright has a good chance to be a significant upgrade for their team. (Petrie wanted him, so that makes me think he is pretty good.) It's easier to find those 2-guards than PFs. All of which means that there is going to be a thumb pressing down on the Kings for several more years by those two teams.

The only team I feel confident about competing against in the West is the Clips. And the Lakers might blow themselves up.

Somebody needs to talk talk to Theus about selling Tums to him on a wholesale basis. I can't even come up with an adjective now to describe the competition in the West. Maybe, "inhumane."

you try and make it seem though as if Peja is still a good player. He didnt even contribute last year, he was hurt all year. I'd rather have an annoying artest, than a worthless Peja riding the pine making a fortune. However, I would still like to trade Artest if we could get a shot blocking big, and or a PF who can dunk really good something like that. I dont want to give up Artest just to give him up, I'd like to see us at least get something valuable in return. Even like a PG would be sweet.

It has nothing to do with Peja now. It has to do with his value when we traded him. It may not have been All-Star high, but it was high. So we traded him for Artest, whose value now is near zero. Not exactly what I'd call a success.

If you want to compare values, at least be consistent.

I would have rather let Peja walk. At least we would have had the cap space.

Sure, and then everybody would complain some more about 'bleeding talent' and 'letting guys walk'. This isn't fair, nobody had the foresight about this.

We couldn't have known then that we were rebuilding although it seemed that 90% of the fans wanted to blow it up. It was like they were clinging to the last few straws of playoff hopes. But yah, I had said back then that I would have rather had him walk than to trade for Artest, adn I still feel the same way.

Artest under Coach Reggie could be a completely different situation than it was under Muss. Coach Reggie has credentials Muss will never have: a hard nose NBA player with more than 10 years experience and a head coach who took a nothing team to the NCAA tournament in just 2 years.

No, I think Artest is here this next year and if he gets back to his all-star ways on and off the court, and Bibby leaves, he could become the team leader under a hard nose, work your butt off coach.

Kinda makes you want to now get your Kings-Lakers tickets for their exhibition game in Las Vegas in October.
