do you think we have a shot at rick adelman next year?

there are reports that he might leave the wolves next season due to his wife.. dont you find it a little odd that as soon as we get rid of the maloofs, he makes a statement saying that quote?
this team should be a playoff team. we have all the right pieces but no head coach. im so sick of coach dumb/ coach smart and his substitution patterns.
the guy plays almost everyone out of position, never plays reke and jimmmer together, he makes salmons play more minutes than reke( LOL!) he hardly gives thornton any minutes, barley runs any plays for big cuz AND GOD FORBID let tyreke catch on fire, because if he does he gets taken out the game lol!!!
this dude is a clown, and his small ball ways arent going to cut it in the nba.
as soon as we get new owners, the first thing they need to do is fire coach smart, then go after adelman. he is a king for life. or doug collins

this team isnt that complicated to run.. for example you could make Jt the high post pf since hes money at 18 feet, run it threw cuz in the post, make reke the play maker/ slasher guard( a ginobli type player for our team)
let I.T. run plays like the pick and rolls, have thornton come off the bench and be our jamal crawford and have the green light, make ppatt a spot up 3 point shooter from the corners only( he is currently 13-19 from 3 point range) have cole world run the pick/ set screens.

anyways do you think we could get adelman back if we get the new owners?
btw i have seen almost every game since 89, looooong time fan,i have been thru the hurly, spud webb, j will days and the kenny thomas center days lmao...
go kings!

No.

As much as I liked Rick his first time with us, I'm not so sure he's the right fit this time around.

A Jeff Van Gundy on the other hand may be just what the doctor ordered.

It is quite possible that Rick Adelman is going to step down from coaching. He already informed the TWolves of this possibility because of his wife's health issues.

This. It isn't as if he wants to coach another team, its that he wants to be with his wife during a troubling time.

Adelman is not the type to sneak out on a contract to pop up elsewhere. If he leaves, it will be due to his wife's illness, and I doubt he ever returns if that happens.

I agree with this! He is only thinking of stepping down and leaving the Timberwolves because of his wife's health! If this happens he is not coming back as a coach anywhere in the NBA.

Now a front office position might be a possibility and I would be open to that. It keeps him employed but with a lot less travel which means he can be there for his wife more than he is now. Having said that, I think Rick is considering giving it all up (ie live off what he has earned to date) to be with his wife full time.

however, since we are on the topic of new headcoaches (there's no one left who wants to retain Smart, right?), who would you prefer. Tetsujin mentioned JvG, but lately, his brother has been on the forefront of my mind. true, he has spurned the Kings once, but I'd like to think that he spurned the Maloofs first and foremost and the roster situation back then second. both of these things seem good ideas in hindsight.

the two primary stars that he has developed in his tenure as a headcoach are Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard. a combo-guard and great slasher without a shot (back then) and a dominant rebounding centre. sounds somewhat familiar, doesn't it (granted, the comparison between Howard and Cuz is a stretch, my main point is that he has proven to be able to develop both smallies and tallies)?

he has had somewhat contentious relationships with dominant personalities (will he be willing to put up with Cuz after that year with Howard?) and seems to demand a lot of effort from his players on the game preparation side of things, which are the only issues that makes me not full-on endorse him as a future headcoach. still, I'm willing to bet that both Cuz and Reke will be willing to put up with this once they see how much better he'll make them. he might not be the ultimate solution, but as a stop-gap coach that finally develops and uses those guys correctly and will be able to get them to the playoffs, I think he might be pretty much perfect.

I think Jeff Van Gundy would be a great get for this team. I also think that Nate McMillan might just be the right coach for this team. I like the way he builds is team. He absolutely places a great deal of importance on defence and especially an interior defender and a shot blocker. He coached Roy and Aldridge and Tyreke's gave is very similar to Roy's. He is a defensively oriented coach and he is young enough to stick around long term.

Something tells me that he would be the right choice. I would of course prefer Adelman but that is unlikely. I would be very happy with JVG or McMillan! Both could make this thing work with Cousins and Tyreke as foundations.

McMillan would also be brilliant for this team and I'd happily have him coach the Kings. the hesitation would be the strong Seattle ties (he was being mentioned as a likely headcoach if the Kings were to move there, iirc).

As much as I loved Rick when he was here, I think it's time to move on from the Adelman obsession we've had since he left. First of all, like others have posted, it looks like he may be retiring due to his wife's health. Second, a new and exciting era is about to start in Sacramento and, along with our new owners and eventual new arena, we need a coach with some charisma and energy.

The past is the past and we had an incredible run with Rick and the guys 10 years ago. We've been in eternal hell the past 6 years. This will be the start of something special as long as the BOG does the moral thing.

I think I agree with all of this. Theoretically Rick sounds great (I would be perfectly happy if he were to coach here in Sacramento next year and beyond!), but I don't know if he'd come back here no matter the situation. Sounds like he's got his priorities in place and might be hanging it up anyways, so let's focus on where to go from here.

There's not much left to say about the Adelman issue that hasn't been said. Obviously, I loved Rick when he was here. He ran the type of offense that I like. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Phil Jackson. Yeah, I know he would be a very long shot, but if he has a little bone to pick with the Laker orginization, and the money is right, then why no give him a call. It will be a new day with new money, and money talks. In general, I think we have to wait and see whose available at seasons end. This is an important decision, as is, who will be the new GM. New ownership has to take their time and make the right decisions.

Unfortunately, they won't have a lot of time in the GM dept. The draft is coming, followed immediately by freeagency. So I'm hoping that the ownership team is already discussing these things in advance of taking control of the franchise. Burkle has built a model of how to run a hockey team, while staying in the background the entire time. I have no doubt that he already has ideas of what he wants to do with the Kings.

This is the guy who is going to be running things....very smart and is obviously not constrained by conventional thinking. Whoever the new coach is, he's going to have to keep up with Ranadive. Note the emphasis on assist/TO ratio. I can see this guy transforming the entire scouting staff and the way all personnel decisions are made on this team. It's going to be a very interesting ride...

No. This is Rick Adelman we are talking about, not Derek Fisher. The guy has integrity. If he quits his contract for family reasons I have no doubt he'll be out of coaching for at least a year tending to real issues rather than using them as an excuse to bail on a contract.
