Do you believe the Donaghy allegations?

Hard to say. On the one hand, who better to know about corrupt officiating that a corrupt official? On the other hand, it was so obvious by eye that he could just be trying to use an incident of "questionable officiating" to his own advantage in his sentencing without having any actual knowledge of wrongdoing - no more actual knowledge than we already had as fans.

I went with the "just don't know" option, and that extends to the potential ramifications in the event it is true.
There's a big part of me that hopes it's true, just because it would prove I wasn't insane for thinking there was something hinky about that game. But a much larger part of me hopes that he's just lying to save his ***, because I can't think of any possible method of rectifying that situation all these years later.

I don't think it could be rectified, but I think knowing the truth would be more important than trying to get some kind of compensation. Grant Napear mentioned the plane ride home from LA that night - I remember how it was around here. People's hearts had been ripped out. They knew their beloved Kings had done everything to win that game. The picture on yesterday's Sports page in the Bee shows Vlade, Peja, Scot and Brent with a look of stunned disbelief on their face as they obviously realized there was something going on they simply could not fight, nor could they even talk about.
I tend to believe if they knew they hadn't failed, it might make it easier. Or it could make things worse.

Donaghy is not really important here. As Ralph Nader said, if a liar states the truth, it is still the truth. For those who watched the infamous Game 6, the truth was self-evident.
This stinky NBA situation has been buried for years by corrupt people using the classic trump cards of liars and losers: political correctness and politeness. Chronic scumbags count on the fairness and general civility of most Americans. In this case a weasle just ratted on some other weasles. It complicates the fragile status quo of concealed lies.

I think the refs intentionally called fouls, etc, in a manner to get to a game 7 (let the Lakers win game 6). Whether they did this for their own reasons, for the league (whether overtly told to or just because, in general, the refs knew the NBA liked 7 game series for this or similar matchups), or as part of something else (mob/gambling, etc.) I don't know. But the game was rigged. That much is as plain as day.
I agree with most of what you're saying. On the other hand if it is true I want to know how high up this went so that it can be completely vetted with the hope that it doesn't happen again. Nothing that comes out or happens is going to make me feel any better about 2002.

he's going to jail regardless. he wants to take people down with him. thats what lonely men do. hiw wife left him, everyone bailed on him. you better believe the game was fixed.

I believe it is true, in so far as he claims that refs are either instructed or feel compelled to alter the outcome on the floor to get play off match ups that favor the NBA TV audiences. I also believe his accusations about our 2002 series and the 2005 Rockets series.
Unfortunately it really doesn't change anything. Stern will do his best to sweep it under the rug and nothing will change. My only hope out of all of this is that those responsible get caught and punished.

BUT...That game was fixed. And there have been plenty of other shady playoff games too (Miami/Dallas finals come to mind, game 3 where D-Wade shot more FTs then the entire Dallas team).
There's no taking back what happened, but steps should be taken to make sure nothing like that happens again. Stern and friends NEED to go.

i could care less... because since the kings didnt lose in the finals.... so you cant give them a ring for something they didnt compete for. unless the nba wants to let the nets and kings re-do the 2002 finals and take the lakers ring away...

The problem is that the NBA has never offered a satisfactory explanation(/apology) for Game 6. Because of the opaqueness of NBA's dealings with its refs, the crazy conspiracy theory becomes the most plausible explanation.
I'm leaning towards agreeing with Nader. Professional sports leagues need either independent oversight or trusting fans. Until the NBA does something towards the former, it's going to be difficult for me to trust the integrity of the officiating enough to enjoy watching a game.

But when was he supposed to come out with this information? Before he got in trouble? LOL give me a break. This is exactly the time when these other things come to light.....when people get caught.

do you seriously believe that that kings team wouldn't have gone on to steamroll NJ in the finals??
