Divac to have back surgery

Please, the Lakers signing of Vlade was about him playing basketball, not bringing him "home" to retire a Laker. If it helps the team to trade his ending contract, that's what they will and should do, period.
Only thing is there don't seem to be a lot of plausible 1:1 trades out there. Other GMs essentially would want to buy Vlade's contract out and get rid of a player with a multi-year contract while they recoup the traded players' salary over successive years. Whose contract wouldn't the Lakers mind absorbing? I'm thinking that if Vlade's contract is moved, some other Laker(s) will go with him.

Thumbs up. It's unfortunate that Vlade's career was finished by an injury, but (more unfortunately) he's now a player who suddenly has trade value. Not parlaying Vlade into something positive is a mistake on Kupchak's part. Mitch has few enough commodities as it is to let an expiring K go to waste.
It's VERY unfortunate re: the career-ending injury (if, in fact, that's how it's gonna go).

Only good thing about it is, Lakers get to deal with it.

Poetic Justice in motion. :D

Theoretically OK from my point of view, just acquire anything even remotely beneficial. As much as it would appeal to our sensibilities to let Vlade retire a Laker, Mitch doesn't have a choice if he's really looking for a short term re-tooling. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt seeing that he did well in Part I of the Boston trade where he purged two other expiring Ks*. Luckily for him, this time the other team would have to waive Vlade's physical before a trade was to go thru.

* Vlade's not really an EK, but would act as one.

Yep, the Vlade to L.A. deal turned out bad for EVERYONE involved, imo. It's nice to see a Laker fan take the high "sensibilities" road, but we all know that will never happen, hell..... Maloof's all but showed him the door, imo. Why would Lakers, or any other team for that matter, do any better by him? Just bad juju all the way around.

Your GM, whoever he really is, has his hands full with more than the Vlade situation, to be sure!

Rock-On, Mitch.....

It wouldn't surprise me to see him go with one of our SF's. I don't think the Lakers are done making moves this year.

Im not sure you can call what Mitch does "making moves."
Au contraire, mon ami. I KNOW I have heard some of Mitch's decisions referred to as a kind of movement...
