Defensive Big Man Choices

A slow 7'2 center that prob could catch a pass before horry could. While on the other end horry nails five threes.

Robert Horry had a career average of 7.0ppg on .341 from 3ptland. Please please PLEASE bring on the Robert Horrycentric offense.

This is the truth about 90% of all the supposed stretch threats. They might hit 2 threes a game. Oh noes. Maybe with a bad matchup they might hit 3 instead of 2. While they are getting their ass kicked inside and on the boards. That is me nibbling on my fingernails hiding over in the corner.

A truly potent great player who defies position? Sure. Major problem for anyone, no matter what your personnel. Anybody else? Pfft. You make them prove it, then you worry about matching up.

Hibbert = 0 finals in a weak eastern conference. Horry = lots of rings. If horry was so horrible how does he have so many rings?

Because he was paired up with the most dominant big man of their Era in Shaq and Hakeem. You take away those two and you basically have 0 rings and 0 playoff.

And you know for a fact hibbert takes them to the promised land?

He maybe not but stop pretending that Rob Horry would have won any of those rings without a dominant big man. Will Hibbert be that big man that takes us to the Promise land? Maybe and maybe not and that depends more on Cousins elevating his game to the level that Hakeem or Shaq was at in their prime. He's currently paired up with a strong offensive PF in David West and has managed to do a pretty good job anchoring the defense for the Pacer and my guess is that he will do just fine with Cousins starting next to him.

My guess is it's more about cuz improving and saving cap space for non disappearing players. Horry Definetly showed up in big games.

What about Andray Blatche? been putting up big numbers for Phillipines team?

Does not appear his old team wants him back, Made like 9 mil last year? but might have some "baggage"?

Im not sure if it would even be possible since he is a UFA?

Can we use the 7mil trade exeption? Maybe if old team does a sign n trade? I don't think that would work on a UFA

I don't think he would sign on our 2 mil Bi-Annual exception? Prob not enough, but if his baggage scares off everyone, who knows maybe a 1-2 year contract for Andray to prove himself and set him up for big payday later?

Stiesma just signed with Toronto so there goes another cheap shot blocking big. We did sign one of the Wear twins to a training camp deal which is bleh.

David Wear 6'10" undrafted F/C

but in looking him up, he can shoot, but I thought it said weakness was Defense/Rebounding

Shot over 50% in summer league, but only ave 2 Rebounds, .8 Blocks

So Im not sure he would qualify as a "Defensive Big Man"

Oh yeah Toronto was only team that I saw that even worked out Andray Blatche
and they just signed Stiesma

So maybe he is ripe for a cheap contract to prove himself

As a UCLA fan I can reassure you that David Wear is in no way, shape, or form a rebounder, a shot blocker, or a defensive player. None of these categories apply.

He has a nice jump shot, but that's about it. I'd be surprised if he ever plays in the NBA - he is destined for Europe.

Yeah, I agree with the Capt, who of course is always right. Wear, or his brother, is a nice college player, but I doubt he has the talent to make it in the NBA. I'd hardly look to him to be a defensive specialist or a rebounder. I suspect he's just training camp fodder.

Once again I'll throw this name out, since it's slim pickings at this point.

Kyrylo Fesenko.

Big body who can bang, contest some shots and grab a few boards for 10-15 mins a night. In the D League now after going back to Ukraine last year. Given he spent a few years under Jerry Sloan, likely has a better understanding of defensive assignments than half our squad. Only 27. At 7'1". would add some much needed size.

Miroslav Raduljica is a free agent, why not take a look at him?
From the sounds of it he is open to coming back to the NBA under certain circumstances but more likely to stay in Europe with Real Madrid showing strong interest. He is more of an offensive C rather than defensice

I think the off-season defensive Big acquisition is Eric Moreland. We all wanted an established rim goalie who could man up also, oh well.

How does the old Stones song go.....you can't always get what you want......

*Really* out of shape. Looked like he was wearing a sack of potatoes under his jersey at Summer League. I just don't know if he's got the work ethic to be an NBA player.

Yeah, I think when we were watching him at summer league I referred to him as the pbilsbury doughboy. He was in horrible shape. Besides, I think he just signed with another team. I'll have to look it up. Dammed shame though. He does have some talent. He can eat with the best of them.:D

Marc J. Spears: Free agent center @TheRyanHollins met with the Heat on Friday, sources tell Yahoo Sports. Kings, Bulls & Spurs also have interest in Hollins Twitter @SpearsNBAYahoo

Well looks like Miami has talked to Blatche, now Hollins and Nazr Mohammed last week
So we have to wait out Miami,Bulls and spurs before we can even talk to a backup center?

We should have kept Aldrich.

While I liked Aldrich for what he is, I'm not sure he has more to offer than Moreland, other than he more suited to play the center position. Until we move JT, I don't see a serious need for a backup center of little talent sitting on the bench. Apparently the Kings don't agree with me since they seem to looking at any live body over 6'11".

Right now the defensive Bigs are JT, Moreland and of course Reggie Evans. So far those 3 sound better than any of the players in the rumors.

Well Moreland can't play center in the NBA. At his weight he's going to have a hard enough time not getting bullied by PFs. So whatever else is going on, we kind of need a big body on the back half of the roster that can get banged into by Bogut or DeAndre without letting out a little squeak.
