Defensive big for cheap?

Milicic has two years and $10 million remaining on his contract, but only $7 million is guaranteed. Once finalized, Milicic will go through a modified amnesty process. Teams with cap space will be able to make blind bids to pick up a portion of his remaining salary.

Darko might get amnestied if the Twolves sign Batnum. I think if we make a bid of 2 million per year ift would not be too bad. It is the price that Maloofs might actually afford. I know Darko is not really ideal but if he can be had for cheap might be a good serviceble backup to Cousins. At least he is taller than Hayes.

I think whiteside is "supposed" to fill that void. That is what is being said right now. They want him focused on that

Whiteside.. He has the potential to be a great weak side - help defender. Give him time. Raw bigs take a couple years to develop. He should get more minutes this year.

Darko ERRR IDK... Reports are out that Oden wants another chance I would rather sign him and give Whiteside his walking papers i'm just not sold on him.

I'd rather have Oden than Darko but I think both of them are a little suspect in terms of their attitude. But why not take a chance on signing Greg Oden and keep Hassan Whiteside? It doesn't have to be either/or. We still have roster space. Of course there isn't playing time for everyone, but these aren't guys you want to be relying on at this point in their careers anyway.

The idea of Oden is interesting. Depending on what he'd ask, and whether or not he'd be ready for training camp rather than not being ready until mid season could make ataking a risk on him somewhat attractive.

I'm not sure how his health currently is. Has he lost weight? Has he been able to run and do basketball related drills for at least a little while? Or is he still rehabbing from surgery and simply hopeful he can return at some point next year? If it's the former rather than the latter, I'd consider taking a risk. It's not like we have a bunch of cap room we're saving for something else. I'd also rather take a risk on a defensive, rebounding big than another shot happy wing.

Darko is also a possibility. As a 4th big or backup center for 15 mins per night he's a decent option. We don't have a backup center right now nor did we last year. Yeah JT can play the 5, but I'd rather have Darko/JT coming off the bench than JT/Hayes. Hassan is the wildcard of course but I won't count on him for anything until I see something from him. If we could get Darko on a 2-3M bid I might be for it, as again I'd rather take a risk on a defensive big than another freakin wing.

Darko? Come on guys, he's been around for years and can't even find minutes on bad teams. Why waste our time? I'd rather play Whiteside who actually has potential.

No. Darko shouldn't sniff any rotation in basketball. I'd much rather baptize Whiteside by fire and give him a consistent 10 MPG than offer Darko anything.

Haywood is a more relaible option than either of those guys if you are just looking for a big established lane stuffer as a 4th big.

Out of the guys discussed, I'd go after Oden then Haywood then Darko .. but aside from Oden, I think I'd rather just give Whiteside the CHANCE to be that guy. Its year 3 for him. Somethings gotta give.

Come on! This guy passes better than Vlade, remember? Let's do it!

/sarcasm off

I agree, and it appears he's about to be amnestied. He's always been a shotblocker, and would be a good guy to have off the bench.

The last thing I heard about Oden, was that he was still having knee problems and he may another surgery. That was some time ago, and I haven't heard anything else since. But I'd be very careful paying anything more than free meals to Oden until he proves he can actually stay on the court for 10 minutes. I agree with you! Lets see what Whiteside can do. He's a natural shotblocker. All he has to do is learn to do some of the little things in order to stay on the floor. We own him. He's already paid for! Why trade him out for another unproven player in Darko, or a player thats been one injury after another.

Once upon a time I would have taken a chance on Darko but now, no way in hell. He is just a major prima donna who never brings it and has no respect of his coaches. We really need leaders and heady vets, not another headcase.

If our FO thinks that Whiteside deserved 10mpg this season, I don't see us signing any more big man. Otherwise, I'd be on board with Darko or Haywood for anything less than Outlaw's 3M.

One thing that these guys could add to our is the chance to play DMC at PF or have him rest without worrying that our C is undersized. The answer to this mainly relies on how strong our FO believes in Whiteside's progress.

I think Haywood would be a good addition to the team. Unfortunately I don't think I could handle the second coming of Vlade :D (that's for you Bajaden!)

Thats why the is Summer League. To see if Whiteside has in fact taken a step up and bought into what the coaches want from him: shot blocking, rebounding and defense, in that order. And stop trying to be more offensive. Kings will have enough shooters when Whiteside plays. Now he has to show he listens and translates that into what they want and what Whiteside does best.

With all due respect, Cuz isn't a PF and will never be a PF. He's a center, and soon will be a top three center in the NBA. Leave him where he is and just let the good times roll. As for Oden, here's an excerpt from an article from a while ago.

Back in February, after another setback, it was discovered that Oden's knee wasn't even healthy enough to operate on. The Portland Trail Blazers officially released him in March, as they readied their rebuilding project, and later we wondered if the team's staff may have been negligent in helping a possibly just-as negligent Oden rehab his knee. Later, in a very candid interview, Oden revealed that his inaction and frustration in Portland led him to drink too much.

I really wish Oden all the success in the world, but I just don't think I'm willing to take a flyer on him. In this article, it says that Oden had originally decided to take this next year off and try to get the knee healthy, but now thinks he can play this year at some point. Therein lies part of his problem. He has never let his knee get totally healthy, and continues to reinjure it over and over again. Perhaps the bottom line is, that his knee is as old as he looks.

Ok with Whiteside gone that leaves Hayes as our 4th big

I am ok with that if he has to replace Trob and still has Big Cuz or JT to play with or is defending a tweener PF/C

But if he is in there with Trob or plays against a 6'11 opponent that just shoots over chuck
then he is just too small as the 4th man

We need a tall prospect, or 4th Big from another team, undrafted Tall guy, he doesnt have to score just put in 10 min of D against another tall C

With the two new signings the list of trade fodder include honeycutt,Salmons or Outlaw, Jimmer,Garcia
I think We need to save Garcia's Ender to help Sign Tyreke next Year
I think We will need Salmons ender the year after to help sign Big Cuz
I dont think honeycutt has any value

So that leaves Outlaw and/or Jimmer to trade for a Tall number 4/5 center

It may not be until we see who gets released during training camp or like Geoff said trades
might be made in Feb also

There is no cap to spend so it would have to be a trade?

10 Man Roster
C Big Cuz,Hayes
PF Thompson,Trob
SF JJ, Salmons or Outlaw
sg Reke,MT
PG Brooks, IT

Blatche is about to be amnestied. I don't like him nor do I think he's that great of a defender. But we basically need a big with size as we have no depth or size up front, at all. Would you bid for him?

Does it matter? With the last two moves, the Kings have used up their under the cap money so I don't think they are even eligible to bid if they wanted to. (unless it's money under the tax that matters ??????????)

Amnesty Salmons to get under the cap to make a run for him?

Chris Tomasson: There's a strong chance of the Nuggets using amnesty clause on Chris Andersen by tonight's deadline. It's a move ... http://sulia.com/c/nba-… about 6 hours ago

i dont even know if we have any room left under the cap, but i think we have room for one more player. what about the birdman for a 4th/5th big off the bench? i know he's had some issues but assuming he's not charged, maybe a very low bid for athletic but older dunker/blocker. id also be fine with darnell jackson since maybe he can help out trob with their KU connection.

Something tells me we'll probably invite Darnell Jackson to return to the team.

The kings marketing team put a feature up showcasing how good he is and how he is a great mentor to trob in SL. not that it means anything but it could be a small hint as to what theyre thinking.

Greg Stiemsma anyone?

Amnesty Salmons to get under the cap to make a run for him?

Hmmm something tells me our broke @$$ owners wouldn't exactly jump at the idea of paying someone to do nothing so that they can have a little extra cap room to pay somebody else.
