Defense Thread! Discuss the defense or lack there of here!

In just about every Thread there is some type post refering to the Kings inability to defend and grab rebounds. Therefor I have created a thread specifically for this topic.

Talk about the defensive options rather it's putting a different player in the starting line up or maybe a trade that would give us that defensive piece.

Honestly we have poor defensive players at every starting position. Hart and Skinner are above average defenders and barely get minutes.

Right now, we aren't as good of a scoring team in the past and defensively we aren't that good. I don't see how this team can succeed.

We need a shotblocker in our starting lineup. Remember last year when Skinner was starting, we were a much better team. Start Skinner and bring SAR off the bench.

There is a game that's very popular in Europe, it's called handball. (It would take me too long to explain the game here, but in short, it's a very physical basketball with goals instead baskets). The cool thing about it is that it is not necessary to stop the game for a team to substitute players. As soon as a player steps out of bounds, the sub can go right in while the game is going on. If this was possible in the NBA, we could be switching Miller (playing offense) and Skinner (playing D) ;). That way we get one complete player. Of course, this wouldn't be always possible to do (fast breaks), but at least at times when we score (and we aren't playing Suns).

Phil Jackson in Chicago used to switch Kukoc and Rodman like that, in the ends of close games (if he had enought TOs left). I remember Kukoc bitching about it to Croatian reporters.

Right now if you look at the percentages this year's defense isn't worse than last year's. That's nothing to write home about, but it's also not a crisis. Basically, in my opinion Bonzi and Reef are playing slightly above average defense, Peja is playing average to slightly below average, Bibby and Miller are terrible. If Bibby does a better job of staying in front of his opponents and closing out, and Miller does a better job on interior defense and especially rotating, no one will confuse the Kings with the Pistons but the situation won't be quite as bad.

Defense is 10% skill, 90% effort. Our guys just aren't giving the effort, you don't need talent to play hard and annoy someone the whole game long, like Bowen, its all effort. I'm sick of this team not trying on defense.

If anyone listened to the Kings talk show on KHTK last night they had Marty McNeal on he basically says the way to make these people play defense is to hold them accountable for their "lapses". If you don't rotate and help out your teammate he would put in someone who does. These players are not held accountable for their lapses and their inability to even try and play D so why should they???

One other thing I don't understand is why the Kings don't at least put "token" pressure on the ball occasionally when the opposition is bringing it up. Jason Hart of all people was screaming from the bench and telling some of the guys to pressure the ball and try and make something happen when the Kings got the game close but no one did. Cleveland then came up and was able to set their offense up and they got an easy bucket. All the while the coaching staff was sitting on their ***.

SAR for Swift

What's your guys obsession with Swift. If you read espn Insider they ranked him as one of the worst FA signings of the year while SAR has been one of the best (I think they had Damon S as being higher). Swift has the IQ of a monkey on the court. He is terrible and has easily proven he doesn't do anything right. He can't even start over Juwan Howard on the down edge of his career. Swift is intriguing but until he proves he can play a lot of minutes and play D consistantly throughout the game his worth is nothing, he's trash on the court.

Anyone also notice Chandler has been terrible this year. After so much hype in the offseason, looks like the guy was really a contract year wonder. I wanted him but the way he's playing now I don't think anyone would want him.

It also takes athletecism and quickness which none of our front court guys have
