David Kahn's "spat" with Chris Webber

Superman

All-Star
Kahn on Webber:
"He’s kind of a schmuck, isn’t he? Methinks that he spent a lot of time on NBA TV with a former Timberwolves person and he seemed to come into the interview with an agenda. Tough questions are fine, but I felt like was a little defensive about some of the things.”
http://thebiglead.com/index.php/2010/07/22/timberwolves-gm-david-kahn-calls-chris-webber-a-schmuck/

So during the Kings vs. Wolves summer league game, Kahn is talking about what the Wolves saw in Darko to give him a four year, $20 million contract, and he brings up Vlade Divac and says that Darko is as good a passer as Vlade was. Webber says "whoa". Then later Kahn says that it can take some time for a player to get his feet under him, and uses Webber as an example, suggesting that Webb didn't come into his own in the NBA until he got to Sacramento. Webber deflects and says he doesn't want to talk about himself, but obviously disagrees with the idea and the comparison.

Yesterday, Kahn goes on local radio with the above quote. This guy is a piece of work. The NBATV and TNT crews are going to work Kahn over all season long. Kenny Smith has already gone to town on him on several occasions. Minnesota fans are saying that he's going to make everyone forget how horrible Kevin McHale was as the GM.

Don't forget he told the press that the reason Beasley failed in Miami is because he's a pot-head. It may be true, but he should just have kept his mouth shut.

Kahn is a joke, and really not a very good GM.

Anyone else see a reality TV show based around Kahn?

Edit: Hahahaha, look at the last paragraph of his wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Kahn_(sports_executive)

this is where wikipedia has to have a sense of humor and let things ride. :p

Can't imagine who would complain to point it out anyway besides Kahn himself and his family. Actually, maybe just Kahn himself.

P.S. he got a law degree? From NYU? Why oh why do so many tools have to sully my good name?

He was GM of the Pacers a while back? Huh, and I was wondering why they haven't sniffed the playoffs in years. This explains everything

Well for his defence Cwebb did come with an agenda to the interview.

Not saying he shouldn't cause anywhere Kahn talks someone should make him be defensive, cause he does stupid things that are hard to explain, but still.

If having an agenda means, "can you explain what the hell you're trying to accomplish in MN?" Then yeah, he had an agenda. To be fair, I think that's the question that EVERYONE has been asking. I know I wanted some clarification.
All Kahn had to say was, "last year was the year of the PG. This year, the SF. Next year, I'll draft three SGs, then C the next year, and so on. I'll keep rotating every year. It's genius I say, genius!"
That would have been the end of the story.

What was his agenda?

Webber only got defensive when Kahn suggested that his career was going down the toilet ala Darko Milicic before he wound up in Sacramento. In reality, Webber was a 20/10/4.5 guy and one of the best young big men in the NBA before he got traded to us. So if Webber really wanted to be a jerk, he could have said that he outperformed Darko's first seven years in the NBA in one season before he became a King, and Kahn's entire comparison was BS. He could have said that suggesting that Darko was even on the same level as Valde as a passer was ludicrous, given that he's never averaged better than 1.5 assists for a season. And he would have been totally right.

But instead of proving how out of touch with reality Kahn really is, Webber just said "you know, I don't want to talk about me, but I hope you're right about Darko." Personally, I'd have been all over him.

Actually still the same as when I saw it -- the amusing stuff is just cleverly hidden amongst the text:

Kahn is best known for his skillful adminstration of the Minnesota Timberwolves. In this position, he set the record for the most point guards drafted by a single team in the first 20 picks (three). He also negotiated the masterful trade of Al Jefferson, two years removed from posting a 20-10 season, for two future 1st Round picks and the great Kosta Koufos. But, perhaps the crowning achievement of Kahn's tenure as President of Timberwolves is, when he, on July 1, 2010, re-signed Darko Milicic to a 4-year, $20 million contract. Kahn then compared Darko Milicic to [Chris Webber] during a thought provoking interview with NBA TV. David Kahn caused controversy on July 23, 2010, when he said his latest aquisiton Michael Beasley "Smoked too much weed" on his former team, the Miami Heat. David Kahn is very good friends with ESPN sport personality, Bill Simmons. Their affection runs so deep that Bill Simmons screams "Kaaahhhhhnnnnn!" whenever he sees David Kahn or a story involving David Kahn, or even sees an action that resembles something that David Kahn would do, like using three draft picks in one draft on point guards.

Someone just added that back. That whole paragraph was missing ten minutes ago.

Ah yes, if you look at the revision history over there its apparent that there is one guy with a sense of humor constantly battling a pack of humorless drones. He readds the paragrpah. They delete. He readds it again, etc. etc.
