Actually yes, yes he is. Or I should say a bigger impact player. But its obviously in concentrated areas while Jason is just more ok at many things, and good at rebounding. You need the right fit for a guy like Daly, whereas Jason has more chance to be a rotation player just about anywhere (not that Daly isn't a rotation player just about anywhere, but just that his strengths and weaknesses are clearly enough defined that the fit could be awkward in places.
Let's put it this way -- the Heat would be ecstatic to have Samuel Dalembert as their center. He might very well start for Boston. Orlando would love to have him to back up Dwight now that Gortat is gone. If you took Chandler out and swapped him in in Dallas they probably woudln't miss a beat, or at lest no more than half a one. He's more accomplished than either of the guys the Suns have in there. Could be swapped in for Biedrins in Golden State with minimal fuss, Houston would love to have him with Yao out. Charlotte would start him. And on and on. To suggest that all of these teams -- better teams than us --would start him/find him highly valuable, and yet somehow he's not good enough for us, is absurd.
To suggest that he's not worth money he's paid is valid, to suggest he may not fit here with Cousins emergence is possible, to suggest that he isn't any good/isn't good enough for us, the bleeping turds of the league, is, as mentioned, absurd.
Did I say he wasnt any good? If I did I didnt mean too. And its not so much as I think he isnt ANY good for us, or that he isnt/wouldnt be valuable to us.
My point is that like you mentioned, plenty of good teams would love to have him. They would love to have him, and start him, and play him 30+ minutes a night. So lets say Dalembert has 7 good teams ( im sure he would like to play on a good team ) that want to go out and sign him. He has all the leverage in the world. I see no reason why he would sign with us when so many other good teams can offer him things we simply cannot - playing time and a chance to win.
Its not that I dont think his skills are valuable, or that the Kings cant use him, but it would be foolish for us to try and use him like a contender would try and use him.
And yes, right now Dalmbert is the more ... how do I put this.. ahh whatever, he is better than JT. Dalembert has the years on him though, JT could easily be better than Dalembert ever was when he gets a bit older. Ive said it from the offseason that I think we should start Dally and Cousins, but Im not the coach. Westphal should take some of the blame here too. He has been the coach of this team for a year and a half now, and I would say only one player really knows their role.
And who knows, maybe we trade Landry and Dalembert gets happy with the increased minutes, but we still have Whiteside waiting in the wings, and while he is way to much of an unknown at this point to expect big things from, I think you have to keep that in the back of your head.
If the Dalembert story ends how I think it will ( He signs on with a good team in the offseason in the starting center role ) then I will be dissapointed. If we dont want him, or more importantly, if he doesnt want us anymore, we should try and get something for him. Thats kind of where I stand on the whole subject. I hate just letting players walk when the season is over. If Dalembert isnt happy, and Landry isnt happy, and the front office doesnt want them long term anyway, we better trade them.
