Dalembert Signing...with Houston!!

Dalembert can go screw himself.

I've got no problem with Sammy... we picked Hayes and that blew up in our face... he wanted Houston and a certain dollar amount and he got it. Did he use the Kings as leverage to get his deal? Sure, but who wouldn't do that if they could? Especially in this era of "me first" style players and owners calling their team a "product"?

Let's just say this... the Kings might have better luck and get better value from a trade... the contract won't have to be $2-$3 million higher than anywhere else just to land the player.

A trade by its very nature involves giving up your things to get other things.

This is of coruse why free agfency remains the great inequity driver int eh NBA. Everything else is regulated and more or less even. Free agency = jsut a straight talent transfer from less desirable spots to more.

In any case, with Ak likely in line at NJ, that truly does leave us with a trade of some of these spare assets as our only choice. However as it has been in teh past, our truly spare parts aren't worth much more than a spare part in return. Not something that can start alongside Cousins and change the whoe team dynamic. Maybe Okafor if the Hornetes are reubilding, but hes' ridiculously overpriced and mechanical.

Also, another thing to consider, no State levied income taxes in Texas... The Kings would have to pay a player $2 Million more just to cover the taxation!

That's a fairly dumb statement. You can see what much cap space means for the Kings. Nada and zilch. And we are running out of time. We fail this year, next year is Reke's last and Cousins' next to last. We are just about out of save it for next year time. When we've got a fish on the hook, we've got to reel him in, beucase we rarely even get a nibble.

Well, I'm more concerned about the trade front, not necessarily free agency. Gives this team a full year or more to look to package some of their young players to maybe try and land whatever they need after that determination can be made. And give me a break about making Tyreke happy, I'll still trust the system, because very rarely do you see guys coming off rookie contracts looking elsewhere before their first big payday, it's almost always guys like Howard or the others that are towards the end of their first big money deal that are looking to escape.

No doubt, but a TPE in the hands of the Lakers, Celtics or Knicks is pretty valuable to them... see Odom, Lamar.

Hope he enjoys losing because he'll have plenty of it in Houston. I would have liked to see him play here this year, especially with Hayes not being able to play. Unlike many Kings fans though, I don't think that the future of the Kings rested on the shoulders of Samuel Dalembert. Losing his defense will suck but let's be real, it's not like we lost Dwight Howard. The Kings will be fine. Just have make a trade or go with a Cousins/Hickson FC and hope for the best.

With the exception of the Thorton signing and possibly the Salmons trade, the FO/ownership really screwed up this summer. We should have been sniffing at a minimum .500 and possibly an 8th seed, but instead we are going to watch a season of layup drills and another high lottery pick. Any shot blockers/interior defenders coming up in the draft next year? Seems like the only way we are going to get one.

Ok what's going on here...Kris freaking Humphries just got $8mill from NJ...not that hes worth that much...but does that take them out of the AK47 sweepstakes??

This, I agree with.

The time for patience and waiting for next year is OVER.

With Hayes gone, the Kings HAVE to get a solid interior defender, or this season is virtually guaranteed to be non-competitive (i.e. losing record, no chance at playoffs, no fan interest, little likelihood of getting a stadium financed).

I know what happened last season was troubling but last I checked the Kings 3 best players were in their 3rd or 2nd years in the NBA!!! My goodness, the absolute worst thing you could do is box yourself in financially before you even really know what you are going to need or how much the extent of necessary talent in combination with that need is going to be. Nobody is even sure if Evans and Cousins are going to make a great combo together yet, that's the most important factor in all of this.

They couldn't have predicted what went down with Hayes, he would have made a huge impact but he wasn't the foundation of this team thank goodness. Neither was Dalembert. I think people disassociate need and particular skills from overall skills and reality. Shot blockers and interior defenders aren't some anomaly, they are out there, it's just super rare to find one with the talent to stay on the court for more than 30 minutes a game and not hinder your offense, which Dalembert certainly does at times. Would have been a great pickup if on a 2 year deal for 7 million or even better if that 2nd year was a team option but this isn't Kenny Thomas flexibility this team has here, it's real. Now, it's up to Petrie to use that to the best of his ability, he deserves some time and so do these super young players!!

As if having Sameul Dalembert would have guaranteed being competitive, a winning record, fan interest, a shot at the playoffs, arena financing, etc.

LOL, come on folks. We didn’t lose prime Shaq, we didn’t lose Dwight Howard, we didn’t lose Tyson Chandler, we didn't lose Vlade Divac. Heck, we didn’t even lose Brad Miller. We lost Sameuel freakin Dalembert. You know, the 8 and 8 guy who takes lots of dumb shots and goaltends all the time?

I can’t believe all the Chicken Little reactions here. Yeah, it would have been nice to keep him but he wasn’t going to single handedly save us from the dark depths of lottery bound basketball.

This team still has a lot of talent and the cap space to make a move.

I have faith that things will fall into place.

Heck, I’m just glad Sacramento still has a team. Losing Sammy D is nothing compared to almost losing the entire team.

A very frustrating turn of events. This team NEEDS an upgrade to its interior defense and while Dalembert has some obvious flaws (not a veteran leader, inconsistent effort, overvaluing his own offensive prowess, tendency for pouting) he is the type of rebounder and help defender we need next to Cousins. Hayes wasn't going to protect the rim in the same way but at least he was an all out effort guy in terms of man D in the paint.

But in truth Tyreke and Cousins still clearly have a long way to go to reach their potential and odds are that the Kings won't be in a position to be considered a real playoff contender in the next year or two that Dalembert would have been signed for. Still, this stings. Especially when it appears the team was just being used for leverage to get a better deal out of Houston.

Well, the Casspi trade now takes on added importance since a large part of whether this team is better or worse this season will depend on how Hickson plays.

Exactly, they were/are going to be competitive based on the main talents on this team. Now, a player like Daly can take you over the top, but the idea that Sam Dalembert was going to be the difference between an 8th seed or top of the lotto just needs to stop. Yes, the Kings need interior defense but the idea that Sam Dalembert was the world to any team at any price is clearly unfounded if the last few weeks were any indication.

It's time for new ownership.

Probabaly but it's probably not an argument anyone wants to have again. There were 4 or 5 big guy FAs available this summer. We waited and waited and waited and now are left with a choice of Joel Przybilla or Kenyon Martin. I suspect Martin is way past being terribly useful and Przybilla may look at the FA aversion to Sacramento and decide that staying home with his family is a wise decision. And if anyone would need to be overpaid to come out of his projected retirement, it would be him. The guy has lost some interest in basktball yet declares himself far more healthy than he has felt in years.

We still NEED to spend $$$ to get to the minimum, right?! Great, we'll probably get DJ Mbenga or something and call it a day with inconsistancy as our calling card...not to mention matador D, poor interior D, and did I mention MATADOR D!?! UGH!!!!

To repeat what I've said for months - I agree that Sammy isn't all that and a bag of chips - and "having a shot-blocker" is incredibly overrated, especially when he goaltended so much and left guys open for easy baskets/RBDs when he went for the shots. He was NOT worth $10 for 4 years, and I firmly believe he wouldn't play hard if he was given that contract.

I think Chuck Hayes' man defense would have solidified the middle about the same way that Sammy's did.

With all that said, without Hayes OR Dally or some similar defender in the middle, this Kings team is going nowhere.

Sammy just didn't want to be a King, it seems...have fun showcasing your offensive arsenal in Houston.

Kings made Dalembert his two best offers of guaranteed money over past 2 weeks, sources say, but he clearly wasn't inclined to return there.

I am OK with another losing season if it didn't result in Sacramento losing the team. I feel like karma owes us a 1st overall pick.

No shock there.

Then why the hell did he give interviews saying he was looking forward to re-signing here just yesterday!

Yeah, that's just total BS, because it completely contradicts every single thing that's gone on the past few weeks. Sammys agent trying to save face by spewing garbage. Houston figured nobody wanted the guy and they could wait him out. Hayes goes down and they even contact Hayes before signing Daly!! C'mon, that speaks volumes here. Then when Houston saw the Kings coming back to the table they figured they better get on the ball here. I'm sure Petrie made an offer but clearly, his priorities were Hayes and SF.

He played the media like a stratovarius!

Part of it was leverage I'm sure, but the other part is that Houston by all accounts disappeared thinking he had no other suitors, Kings show up and they had no choice. I'm sure he would have chosen Houston anyway because of Petrie's total snub but still.
