Cousins Suspended One Game

Well at $47K a game that will teach a lesson to DMC. George Maloof probably has a party every time DMC is suspended celebrating the savings of $47K:)

IIRC the money not paid to Cousins goes into a special league fund. The Maloofs don't save anything.

This is all getting to be ridiculous. Caught a little of Grant's show and it was basically a bash Cuz fest. Then we have Grant acting like he was privy to the phone conversation, and even if he does know something why exactly is he passing on what happened between a private conversation between Cuz and someone in the league office?

Here's a different angle. Did Grant get his info from someone in NY(doubtful) or someone working for the Kings(more likely)? If it was a member of our FO, then I HIGHLY question why they're passing on this info to Grant, who we know will take it to the airwaves. This would go back to the incompetence within our FO. There's already very little backing of Cuz, and Petrie would rather run and hide than make public statements. We also had someone working for the Kings(don't know who) who went to Cuz in the locker room after the SA game and told him what Elliot said, and then no one stopped Cuz from coming back out on the court and confronting him. Of course some of that is Cuz's fault.

But now we possibly have a member of our FO leaking information about a private conversation Cuz had, actually two conversations, with the league office to a freakin radio host? And over what? Is Cuz supposed to kiss their a**es? This crap wouldn't get a suspension from any other player in NBA history, yet Cuz is supposed to accept it? Suck up to Stu Jackson? Where the hell is Petrie and our FO in all of this? Too busy leaking information to Napear?

Our organization is rotten.

From what I heard, it was someone "from the media" who told Cuz what Elliot had said, not someone within the Kings organization.

As far as Petrie preferring to run and hide rather than make a public statement, Petrie NEVER makes public statements on things like this. Think back to the Artest days. Petrie made NO public comments, nor do I think he should have.

My take is that Grant is running with stuff he's gleaned from Twitter and other social media, along with stuff he heard from his peers in New York, who may or may not have heard anything from someone in the league office.

Take my word for it. Our front office is about as tight-lipped as they come. You don't get reliable leaks from them, which is partially why people like CD and Grant and some of the other bloggers have to grab stuff from other sources.

I totally agree that there's very little to this that passes the smell test but I do not think any of it is coming from within basketball operations. Now is it coming from the Maloofs? Your guess is as good as mine on that part...

I heard the part of Grant's show when he interviewed Cisco. Cisco defended DMC and said he is maturing. Nice to see the Vet has DMC's back. Otherwise Grant's show was a DMC bashing session.

The Lakers are down by 22 versus the Knicks:)

I agree with that. He also has to go on a charm campaign at some point. He's a charismatic kid, sense of humor, smart enough. Joke with the refs before the game. Chit chat with the media. When challenged he's going to respond with a big **** you, and like I say, I get that. But that doesn't mean you have to keep going out looking for the challenge. Find ways ot make peopel want to give you the benefit fo the doubt so your defiant impulse never gets triggered.

That is sort of what Mayo is doing. OJ's comments towards Demarcus weren't really meant as true compliments or were really all that concerned for Demarcus' career. They were "professional" things to say that paint OJ as the mature one in the encounter and in a good light overall. Mayo is trying to separate himself from his bad rep in Memphis and in college. If he's learned anything, it's how to play the press game better. It helps that he has a pro organization like Dallas to do it with, but I don't want to see Demarcus rebuild his rep on another team.

Further proof of the tactics the Dallas Mavericks have used and will continue to use.

Yep. Politics.

Petrie does rarely make public comments, but he should when asked by a reporter regarding Cuz. There's very little public backing of Cuz with this organization, and just because Petrie has acted a certain way with more veteran teams doesn't mean he shouldn't change his ways when committing to rebuild with young players. He's made one poor mistake after another yet simply hides in his office or in the tunnel. Leaders take accountability. Petrie does not.

And it's possible Grant gets his info from NY. But I don't for a second believe the FO is so tight lipped that it's not possible Grant is getting some of his info from someone in our FO. You're saying our FO is tight lipped, which is true, but the NBA offices in NY are incredibly tight lipped as well. Grant is basically a Kings spokesman, Maloof as well, so I doubt he goes on the air talking about certain things without having conversations with someone beforehand who's a member of our FO in some capacity. There's certain things he's said he knows which he'll never speak of as it violates trust, so there's obviously some dialogue before he hits the airwaves about what he can and cannot say. Even if he did hear about this from someone in NY, I'd personally wager he brought it up with Kings personnel beforehand, even if it was just Reynolds as an example, a FO member, and said this is what I heard. Seems no one told him to shut up and keep phone conversations between Cuz and the league to himself. Grant gets talking points, and I really doubt his Cuz bashing wasn't brought up beforehand.

You could be right, of course. This all just irritates the crap out of me. I got my fill of drama during the failed Artest experiment. I hate to see it returning in any shape or form. As Optimus Rhyme said in another thread, "I want my damn team back."

The suspension wasn't really warranted but regardless of the situation, it's done with. I'm interested to see what kind of display he shows tomorrow. He either will show up and play hard or he will check out mentally and get yanked.

I actually used to give Napear the benefit of the doubt. Not for the last couple of years. though. I am far more likely to doubt almost anything he says, unless I can verify it with an unbiased third party.

I think a suspension was too harsh. It is too hard to tell if it was or wasn't intentional. I think a fine would have been sufficient for this specific instance.
