Cousins SUSPENDED! (merged)

Spurs fan here, so I'm biased. First of all, nothing Elliott said was out of line. Cousins was acting like a child. He talked trash then proceeded to get owned by Duncan. Elliott also rightfully clowned Cousins after a dead ball situation: whistle is blown kawhi Leonard shoots a 3 Cousin's a la Kevin Garnett goaltends the shot, ball bounces right back to Kawhi who shoots again, Cousins who is walking away runs back and tries to goaltend again-but he's too late the shot goes in right in his face. Fail.

Second, Elliott is a former spur who won a championship. He is the home town announcer. He can refer to the spurs as we. Someone said Elliott was bitter because the kings passed on him in the draft-no I think elliot is.more then happy where he ended up.

Lastly, Cousin's calling anyone immature Is the pot calling the kettle black. Wake up bro. You have all the talent in the world, but with an attitude like his he's always gonna be a loser.

I'm starting to develop a persecution complex just following Cousins. The refs are out to get us, the league is out to get us, and even the announcers are out to get us. Getting a two game suspension for an argument with an announcer is absurd. Elliot should be embarrassed by this absurdity. It's like going to tell the teacher when a girl slaps you. Give me a break. Cousins should visit PetMart and get a muzzle for himself, get some good ear plugs at the drug store, and for a final measure get the dentist to give him several shots of novacaine in his face to paralyze his facial gestures.

Yep.

I can recall instances of blatant thuggery by Bruce Bowen that were applauded by Spurs fans. It's all a matter of perspective, but when you - a Spurs fan - come to a Kings board to pile on our guy don't expect a real warm welcome.

Just sayin'...

nonsense. absolute nonsense. the league has no business handing out a 2-game suspension for a nonviolent altercation that occurred after a game concluded. the kings have a right to punish cousins for conduct detrimental to the team if they deemed it appropriate, but the league SHOULD NOT be intervening. tell me, would tim duncan receive the same penalty? while I agree that demarcus rarely helps his own cause, this is CLEARLY a reputation suspension, and unfair in its severity relative to other suspensions...

Tim Duncan would never put himself in that spot.

that strikes me as irrelevant. it doesn't matter what a player would do. it matters what a player does. and no other team's centerpiece would receive that particular suspension for that particular transgression from the league office...

Elliot was out of line and embarrasses the league on a nightly basis. Get past your bias.

The league is sending Cousins a message. Maybe it's excessive, but that just makes the message clear. I don't think it's really that outrageous of a tactic to take with a young repeat offender like Cousins. I hope he adjusts.

k then if the league is going off of past offenses, Artest should have been fined for 500 years for his elbow to harden

The message is that there's a double standard and that's all Cousins will take from this.

It's basically, "we have no financial investment in you or the Kings franchise at this time, so we can make an example of you while other players get a longer leash."

If you think a personality like DMC will treat this as anything other than more bull**** towards him then you don't understand people like him.

Right it's an excessive punishment, but not an accident. Let's also be honest if this was a one game suspension the precedent wouldn't be outrageous. They threw in a extra game to make it clear that they expect Cousins to change his behavior.

He's screwed then. The league can't coach or mentor the kid, they can be punitive. That's clearly the tactic they're taking. It's reality, so I hope he adjusts to reality, even if it doesn't suit his personality.

Its ironic that you find my statement irrelevant because I find your example irrelevant. Tim Duncan would simply never do that, therefore he would never be up for receiving today's Cousins treatment.

I disagree. The league is trying to get an incredibly talented player to understand that he is, in fact, subject to the same rules and codes of behavior as every other player. DMC has had problems for a long time. If he wants to have a successful career in the NBA he absolutely MUST learn to control his emotions, his mouth and his facial expressions. He can either do that or he can go down in the books as one of the most talented individuals to ever fail in the NBA.

Ron Artest learned to control his emotions only after some very severe penalties by the NBA. He did so even though he didn't really ever understand what he did that was so wrong. DMC is gonna have to do the same thing.

The league get almosts all of its money to pay the players from media contracts. It is a huge problem if players start going after members of the media for what they say in their jobs. It is as unacceptable as going after fans.

Keep the excuses coming KingsFans! It's ALWAYS somebody else's fault with this guy! Face it, he's an immature head case who isn't going to change! He's not a franchise player. He's a good basketball player but he's not a guy to build around.

I'm sorry but this team is so unlikeable. A bunch of individuals trying to do their thing. 3-4 "cancers" in the locker room. What a mess!

He's not subject to the same rules. Nobody in the NBA is subject to the same rules. The rules you live by correlate to the league's financial investment in you. Kobe was a petulant child when he came into the league, but due to the league's intended investment in him and the Lakers, he never had to deal with this sort of thing.

I happen to like cousins the way he is. I dont want a team of nice guys. If only Cousins could find a way to be an A-hole without getting technicals/suspensions. It will happen with time im sure. With that being said, has anyone ever witnessed a situation anything like this before? 2 games!? I find this whole thing hard to fathom. The league executives are intelligent people. What would drive intelligent people to make ridiculous unprecedented decisions like this? Similar can be said for Robinson's suspension. Im not sure if ive ever heard of a 2 game suspension for giving someone an elbow to the face. Whats up with the excessive punishments against Kings players.

Kobe may have been a petulant child but if you read the summary of problems DMC has had in his short career - thanks LWP777 - you will be hard pressed to validate the point you're trying to make.

Bottom line is that something has to give - and I'm willing to bet it's not gonna be the league. They've made their position abundantly clear and DMC can either learn from it or face additional consequences in the future.

3-4 cancers? uhm. pray tell... whom??

demarcus cousins is 22 years old. 22!! people act like a fat paycheck and time in front of a camera are actually supposed to accelerate an individual's maturation rate. and who gives a **** if these players are likable or not?! dwight howard is so "likable" that he forced his way out of orlando and onto a stacked (if underperforming) los angeles lakers squad. gimme the fiery young player with a few problems who can become the franchise center for a decade. i'd rather swing and miss on that player than endlessly draft the squeaky clean jimmer fredettes of the league year in and year out...

But, at some point, don't you start to worry about whether or not said fiery young player can, in fact, become that franchise center?

Teams need a variety of players and personalities. I hate that this is becoming a DMC v. Jimmer situation. It's heart-breakingly reminiscent of the Peja-CWebb debates that became so disruptive and meaningless.

DMC needs to find a way to get past his problems. And he needs to do so quickly before he becomes such a target of the officials and the league that he's lost forever.

A what??? :p

Those...they aren't even the same species. Jimmer is a basketball insect compared to Cousins.

Not what I meant at all. I meant that people are using the two as polar examples:

But to expand on your analogy, Jimmer may be a basketball insect but it's DMC who will inevitably be swatted by the league if we/he cannot find a way to get past his emotional outbursts.

I like Boogie, quite possibly better than I've liked any other player since Vlade, but I have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that it's just not gonna end well unless he can learn to harness his emotions. His facial expressions get him in trouble and I don't see that stopping unless we start giving him botox injections before the games or something. I absolutely love his passion for the game but he has to learn when to fight and when to walk away. The whole Sean Elliot scenario is embarrassing. No matter what Elliot said, there was NO reason whatsoever for DMC to confront him. And there was no way it was going to end well.

yes, but that time is certainly not game seven of year three...

and, as brick said, jimmer is a basketball insect compared to cousins. as presently constructed, this team will never break for jimmer the way it broke for peja over c-webb. the talent disparity is far too wide in this instance. of course, the fans can fracture themselves into whatever little subsets they want, but my point in comparing demarcus and jimmer was that you can make the safe, family-friendly pick 10 times out of 10, and it will probably never hurt your franchise in any direct manner. but it won't always help you either (see: minnesota's drafting of wesley johnson a single spot above demarcus cousins). however, making the unsafe pick can pay off big time if a team is willing to absorb the risk. demarcus' game speaks for itself. i hardly need to defend its potential...

Suspend pretty much our only hope against the leagues poor struggling poster boys over some bull**** argument AFTER the game?... Sounds about right.

This league is a joke.
