This is what I worry about when it comes to Geoff, it becomes so personal with him that it's not about the trade anymore but rather about his ego. I worry now that he won't blink because he doesn't want to be known as the guy who blinked, even if it's not best for the team.

We have already discussed in length why it would be a poor move to wait until the offseason as we don't want Ron long-term and we don't want to take on salary in a S&T. The move needs to be made now.
 
Jesus, Denver's window is closing and now here is a chance to pair two Defensive POY and really make some noise in the West and they're balking at senting us a career bench player, a future journeyman (Linas), and a pick that will turn out to be another career bench player?

I may be ok with Najera/Smith/pick if we sent Artest to the east, but to sent him within our own conference, Najera/Kleinza/pick is the LEAST we should get. You just don't trade a guy like Artest within our conference unless it's for something really good.

If Denver doesn't have the balls to make this deal, fine. I'd rather Artest walk at the end of the season and sign with an eastern team than to see him school us four times a season.
 
Getting less and less optimistic of a trade as the time passes and no solid rumour. Eze on EBS seems to think Lue will be traded for Fred Jones. Would feel nothing about that, does nothing, they're both expirings.

Come on Geoff, don't be stubborn, trade Ron for Najera, Smith and a 1st if you have to!

One hour to go, and a source close to the Kings tells me Denver hasn't come back the Kings' way yet.
There have been other offers for Artest (not sure who) but nothing of real substance. As for the Phoenix chatter, ESPN's Chad Ford claims the Suns have interest, although I'm told they haven't expressed it to the Kings. And even if they were willing to give up the trade exception (read below), they may be reluctant to give up the first round pick from Atlanta that may very well end up in the lottery with the way the Hawks have played after the Mike Bibby trade.

What you're saying makes sense, but a good negotiator doesn't put himself in this position in the first place. Putting down a hard deal saying things like, "this is the price of admission" gets nothing done. A good negotiator works things out, maybe offers a 2nd round pick or Tyrone Lue or something like that. A good negotiator must be firm, but also flexible when the time calls for it.

I fully agree with this. Typically there are multiple ways to make a deal work. Throwing in Atlant's #2 this year for example. If Denver is really playing hardball though, sometimes a good negitiator needs to know when to get up and walk away from the table.
 
I was reading Marc Stein's article on espn and he stated this morning there wasn't much talk with Denver, however, by lunchtime, appeared to regain some life.

Did anyone else find this line hilarious? Reminds me of when two kids liked each other in the 5th grade and would pass notes back and forth or have friends ask if someone liked them. If Steve Kerr starts running over and pulling Petrie's hair than we will know a trade really might happen.

Not a bad idea. We throw in the 2nd round pick from Atlanta to sweeten a little so each side saves face and doesn't come out looking like the loser. We still end up with cap space and 2 first round picks this year.
 
and we are sitting there waiting for a call ???

shouldn't we be the one trying to make something happen ?

Absolutely, when the deal is one sided and they won't budge, especially if you don't desperately need it right now then walking away is always best. But I don't see this situation as one of those. It seems to me it is as simple as this.

Kings want: Najera, Kleiza, 1st Round Pick

Nuggets want: Najera, JR Smith, 1st Round Pick

I don't see either of these deals as completely one sided and the other thing is that the Kings do NEED to make a deal here or we lose Artest for nothing or god forbid we sign him long-term and we lose our future.
 
Ron's trade value will never be higher than it is right now. The time bomb hasn't gone off and his play has excelled because he's showcasing himself. If a deal isn't made get ready to see his play dip and hopefully he won't explode for not being traded to a contender.

The way that I see it, we're already selling Artest at 50 cents on the dollar. Now, Denver wants to make it 30 cents on the dollar. Screw them. As crazy as he is, Artest is definitely worth more than Najera, Kleiza, 1st.

I have no problem with letting Artest walk or trading him in the summer. If we blink now, we may miss out on a better deal later.

So you are willing to gve up artest for nothing but you wont give him up for Najera, smith, pick or whatever the deal is?

Makes no sense.
 
Jr smith isnt that bad... his character is questionable but hes averaging 9 pts in 17 mins and hes young, 24 i think and last year averaged 13 ppg .. not to mention my former basketball coach used to coach smith and he tells me that smith is a good kid who makes some bad choices .. he basically told me his character isnt that bad.

Good point. I really thought Geoff would take a JR/Najera/1st deal for Ron. Now we run the possibility of re-signing him, which I hate unless it's a S&T.

Please Geoff, just do it. Call them up.

Any updates from Amick or anything in the last while?
