I just can't imagine what Petrie is thinking, there is no reason to keep Artest now. Maybe the rent a player thing is becoming an issue and Petrie is being too greedy, teams just won't give up that much to have a player for half a season. Unless he really thinks he can pull off a sign and trade for expiring contracts and a David Lee quality player in the offseason this makes no sense.
I would think teams would be more likely to trade more now as the playoffs are coming as opposed to the offseason where there is no pressure.

Yah not when it comes to the Kings.. Even if you worked for the Kings you would be in the same boat unless you stumble on something.
Personally I still think something MIGHT be done.. I think there will be a 3rd team involved though because we can't get something done with two. I'm gonna stick by that one.

Why Give up Ron for Scraps?
If Petrie can not get young talent, a 1st rounder and expirings he should not trade Ron. There is no reason to give away a good player. Seems like people are panicking because they want something to happen. Something happening does not = something good happening. Petrie has been very solid with his decision making. I doubt be will pass up a good deal.
BTW who else is pissed that Seattle managed to get 2 first rounders for Kurt Thomas (1 for taking him, 1 for trading him away)?

Hopefully not. It makes zero sense to keep Ron around after this season. It makes zero sense to keep him around now.
Have to agree. I'd even do Najera/JR/2nd rounder at this point. I'll be very disappointed (but not shocked) if Ron is still here next week.

Almost anything for Artest is a good deal, lets face it we have to get something for him because it would be crazy to sign him to a big contract. The dude is a headcase and frankly an overrated player, we'd be suckers to keep him around. We're better off without him, we're not winning anytime soon; he does nothing for us besides keep us just good enough to stay in the back of the lottery.

I kind of agree with this. Smith won't be in our long term plans, and doesn't have too much trade value either. The pick is going to be in 20s, which can get us a good player, but not something to get really excited about. Giving in to Denver's demands shall not only get us a bad deal now, it shall also set us up for bad deals in future (e.g., if we try to trade Brad next year).
While it certainly carries the risk of losing him for nothing, we might be able to do a S&T for him around the draft. Ron shall be looking for a good hike, and it's not like there are a number of teams out there with lot of cap space. Given how competitive West is (and might be even more next year with Blazers getting Oden, and Wolves, Sonics and hopefully us, improving), teams (particularly those that flame out in the playoffs) might feel added pressure to take a chance with him.

Not to simplify the matter, but I can safely say Denver has looked at possible acquisitions in this light from the beginning. Jason Kidd was the most talented guy available, and Ron Artest was the second. End of story.
And now that it doesn't appear as if Denver will land Memphis' Mike Miller, that could be leverage of sorts for the Kings. Remember, there's really no reason to give in now. Just wait for the other side to blink until the deadline draws even closer. Twenty hours and counting...
