[NBA] Comments that don't warrant a thread (JAN)

Yeah but when is the next time you’re going to have someone as good as Steph on your team?

No, the Warriors aren't likely to find themselves with someone as good as Steph anytime soon, but Kerr's not wrong here. Curry's 37. Butler's 36. Green's 35. This team is done as a championship contender. They're too old and slow, and there's nothing they can flip for a genuine superstar package to elevate them into the conversation in the Western Conference, no matter how amazing Steph is playing right now.

That said, Golden State can still compete for a worthy playoff showing, and they should be trying to offer Curry a graceful path through his final seasons. To that end, it would have been wise to use Kuminga as an asset to acquire a useful rotation piece in the off-season, before they tanked his value. But for whatever reason, they got all haughty and fussy about the quality of the packages offered, and now they're in the worst position possible, with Kuminga rotting on the bench and less valuable as a trade asset than he would have been in the summer. It ain't like nobody was predicting that outcome.

And while the Warriors botched their opportunity to squeeze value out of Kuminga, they're still smarter for not dumping future firsts in the vain hope that they can pursue "one last ride". They're not getting through the meat grinder at the top of the West, and someday, Steph will retire. The cupboard shouldn't be bare when he does so. It'll be a slow rebuild, at that point, but better to keep all of your future first rounders than irresponsibly attempt to stave off the inevitable.

I don't know if it's just you, but I am entirely ambivalent about the Clippers. Plus, I like Kawhi, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

... Especially now that people have figured out what I've been saying since 2014, that he ain't nobody's humble, he's just quiet, People wanted so bad to root for somebody who wasn't LeBron, that they made him into something he's not, something he never was. And, me being me, I gravitate towards players that tend to get hate and scorn from other basketball fans. The more fans hate on a dude, the more I want to see them succeed... unless their names are Luka Dončić or Karl-Anthony Towns.

Despite all the NBA franchises being billion-dollar organizations, Houston’s Toyota Center had to stop the game seven times in just the first half tonight and is now relying on the stadium announcer to call out and count down the shot clock...

EDIT: What does it say about Tissot's new shot clock design this season:
It took Tissot and its Swatch Group partner, Swiss Timing, 18 months to develop the new shot clock. Their goal was simple — to blend aesthetic harmony with technological advancement. For this, the new clock uses LED glass technology. Thanks to the system, the face of the clock is cable-free, providing a clean and clear view of time, while spectators sitting by the shot clock can still enjoy the game. Lastly, the round, color-coordinated 24-second clock replaces the traditional square design that has been used for over 70 years.

Don't teams play one additional game, and the other games on the schedule are reformatted so teams knocked out play each other as part of their 82?

I don't think people in other sports question why a team in form in December may be completely out of form by May. You see teams in association football win minor cups while being nowhere near the top of the table for the league championship. Why should this be any different beyond the fact that at present we have a sample size of 2.

I doubt NY Knicks are going to get completely run out of the playoffs in 5 games this year and if they do it will be because of injuries, and those injuries won't be because they played one extra game.

You know who else played an extra game last season? The cup runners up. Wonder how the rest of their year went.
it was OKC

Tissot spelled backwards is "toss it"

It amuses me how Norman Powell asks to be introduced as being from Lincoln High School. Like, that's usually reserved for players who were one-and-done, or didn't go to college at all. But Powell played for years at UCLA and graduated, and apparently he's still like, "**** UCLA."

The Wizards are 7-5 dating back to December 14th. Are they kinda good now? Their next 5 games are @PHI, NOP, @PHO, @LAC, @SAC -- all of which look winnable so I guess we should get a pretty good idea soon if this is a hot-streak fluke situation or if they've turned a corner of some kind.
