Q: What do you think of the current roster?

A: Everybody knows I'm a Geoff Petrie fan. I can't deny it. Over the next couple years, I can see the Kings getting another good draft choice, see Geoff making a nice trade or two, and I think they get back quicker than I thought. Six, eight weeks ago, I wouldn't have said that. Beno (Udrih) makes a big difference. John Salmons is playing great. And I like Spencer (Hawes). I think he's going to be pretty good, too. Geoff's draft picks are terrific, and they're not that high. Kevin Martin. Francisco (García). Peja (Stojakovic). Hedo (Turkoglu). So long as Geoff is doing the heavy lifting, and the operation of the team is in his hands, they'll come back at a faster pace.

Wow, coachie loves GP too!

I dont think coachie is exactly unbiased on this. ;) I would still like to see Coachie as an assistant, even if only part-time. I know Martin, especially, would love it.:)
So would I. I don't know that we have the right personnel to execute that offense anymore, but once Bibby comes back, he and Martin should free up some room to operate on the floor. And with Brad Miller playing and shooting well, he could be the trigger man. If it would help us get more layups and open jumpers, as opposed to just settling for the outside shots because we can't get to the rim, it would definitely help our offense be more efficient.

I doubt that it will happen, though. Too much of a throwback to the Adelman regime. The Maloofs don't want that.

Ya beat me to this...

...kupman in posting about Coachie's comments.

I liked this part...

Q: As a coach, you think you could have helped him? What would you have emphasized?
A: I've seen where he loses concentration at times, doesn't run a play. He'll go run down in the post and stand next to a guy who is already there. Why are you doing that?
...because, no doubt, Ron will read this and, perhaps, be motivated to fix those things that Coachie mentioned.

Speaking of fixing things, did ya notice that Garcia is playing for himself first a LOT LESS? He's now passing the ball far more than he's shooting first or wasting time dribbling around while looking at the floor. That's good coaching right there.

And this by Coachie...

Q: Because you wish you were still coaching?
A: Perhaps, perhaps. I don't know for sure. I had a great eight years in Sac. And you never know.
So he did not categorically deny the possibility of him coming back to assist-coach in, say, a consultant basis just for his beautifully-insightful feedback. Man, I'd love to spend a day just talking with Coachie and picking his beautiful mind about basketball.

And speaking about beautiful basketball minds, I LOVE Kayte's sharp and insightful pointers about the Kings' basketball. She's sharp as a cookie and really KNOWS the game, inside and out. I always look forward to half-time and the HPL times specifically for Kayte's commentaries. We are fortunate to have her as an analyst and I worry that she'd be hired away by BSPN (btw, they now have returned the close-captioning to action...thanks to my "death threats"<g>), or some other major sports network, so enjoy her NOW.

So many other things to comment on, but, I gotta run outside and roto-till the frozen compost pile before it freezes any more than it already has. Worms can't eat popsicles, ya know.

Thanks for posting the link.

This Q & A really touch me:

Q: Any plans for another visit in the near future? Maybe when the team is in town and you can attend a game at Arco?

A: I'm glad I'm out here while they're on the road. I get a little sad, a little nostalgic. It's bad enough when I watch them on TV. To be out here when they were here … would be hard.
He also watch every Kings games at home. He really love this team!

The picture (along with the article) of Coachie is very nice too! :) I really miss him.
