Ch. 3 and the Rambis coach rumor...

And Kurt is probably wondering what changed since the last time he met wiht the Maloofs looking for this job.

Not the best written article:

The Kings have been without a coach since Reggie Theus was fired in December.

While it may have appeared that way at times, that must be news to Kenny Natt! :p

I've been on the Rambis bandwagon a couple weeks now, but if they hire him abruptly after Geoff phoned in to a Maloof interview... well I don't like the way that feels. Makes it look like a Maloof choice again with Geoff just along for the ride, which is bad mojo.

But still I think he's a fine choice if he is the coach.

This is actually nothing more than a rehash of the article from this morning's Bee. Rambis "could be" the Kings next coach? Well, actually it could read "Bricklayer could be the Kings next coach" and be just as revealing...

The Sacramento sports media is deplorable...and I'm being more than kind. We'll probably see something similar on Ch. 13 in a couple of days...they always seem to be even further behind. And then Jim Crandall will talk about it on 40 as though it's breaking news that we even interviewed him.

I hate TDOS. I hate not having a head coach. I hate, more than anything, major news sources that run with the flimsiest of rumors or try and act like they know more than they do when they're late to the party to begin with.

Sure, it could be true but they haven't given us anything new to talk about. Sources say Rambis was the final interview on Monday? Could one of the sources have been Troy Hanson, who actually posted it on his freaking blog last night at 7:45 p.m.? You know, Troy Hanson who is posting stuff on fullcourtpress that is right from the horses mouth? Why would Ch. 3 bother to say sources when they could have said, "We just read on Troy Hanson's blog that the Kings interviewed Kurt Rambis."

/end rant

Congratulations Bricky!! Can I be one of your assistants???:D

Meh... Nothing new to see here. Just some retelling by KCRA. I wish they would just hire somebody already. I always get this way, last time it made me happy that we got Reggie Theus. Can you imagine? Being genuinely excited over Reggie Theus??? It happened to me folks. It could have happened to you too.

I don't understand this at all. If all along we have been told by Petrie that they are looking for someone with extensive experience, how does Rambis fit that? He may well end up being a good coach and all but this stinks of the Maloofs making the choice again. Personally I would rather have Westphal. At least he has some winning experience.

It is NOT A DONE DEAL!!!! This is merely ch. 3 arriviing late to the party and trying to catch up. RAMBIS IS NOT THE NEW HEAD COACH.

I've changed the title of the thread; hopefully people will quit heading for bridges and the like.

;)

Well, you could probably check mark everything else with Rambis though -- some head coaching experience? Yeah, some. I recall it being regarded as somewhat of a failure, but that was a dozen years ago. NBA player? Yep. Winner/champion (for the legitimacy)? Yep. Assistant? Yep. On winner/championship teams? Yep. Mentor = legendary coach? Yep. he has never seemed like the most forceful guy, but when he talks about winning he's got a load of legitimacy behind the words.

Congratrulations?? Would you want to coach this crew?

For somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 mill? I'm somewhat chagrined to reveal there are an incredibly few things I wouldn't do to reside in that particular neighborhood.

:p

You are right Brick, most all of the checks are there with Rambis, and that is why I mentioned he may well end up being a good coach in the NBA, however, I think with our young group of players some good NBA coaching experience will go a long way. Rambis in my opinion is similar to Theus in that there probably was no problems with the players respecting him because they all knew the history of him as a good player in the league. But guys like Kevin, Donte, JT, and even Beno, don't need someone to relate to at this point, they need someone to tell them what to do and how to do it.

What I don't understand is why people think that GP conferencing in by phone would mean Rambis was a Maloof pick, if he is, in fact, picked?

GP had a personal family matter to attend to back east and they had to get the interview done before the finals started. It was just a matter of a narrow window to interview him. After all, this is the third time Rambis has been interviewed for the Kings' head coaching position, so it's not like GP doesn't know much about Rambis and what he offers as a head coaching candidate.

Hey, I would love to be your assistant too.. My loyality can be had by anyone for the right price.

The longer this goes on, the more this organization looks incompetent. As you and Brick have already stated, what the heck is there to learn about Rambis at this point? How many more gray hairs he has on his head since the last interview? Is this the point in the process where Geoff meets with the Maloof family and they take a vote over tea? Or does he now have to massage the entire family to get them on board? It's just ridiculous.

I'd rather they take the time and (hopefully) get it right. We have the only opening in the league at the moment, I didn't really care for Jordan and some thought he preferred Philadelphia over Sac anyway. What's the hurry?

As to interviewing Rambis again, people's resume and perspective do change, it's a courtesy to let them know you're interested and give them another chance to sell theselves.

Doing things too fast without due consideration can look unprofessional, too. Not to mention desperate.
