As of late Sunday night, sources said, New Jersey was poised to receive Anthony, Billups and Hamilton, with Denver landing two future first-round picks and six players. The Nuggets' haul would feature Nets rookie Derrick Favors, former All-Star guard Devin Harris and Nets sharpshooter Anthony Morrow. In addition, the Nuggets would bring in the New Jersey threesome of Quinton Ross, Ben Uzoh and Stephen Graham included for salary-cap purposes.

Detroit, meanwhile, was to receive Nets big man Johan Petro and the expiring contract of Nets forward Troy Murphy, with the Pistons motivated to join in by the $17-plus million in long-term savings they'd earn by shedding Hamilton's contract.

Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowksi has a bit different composition (more complete?) to the proposal:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=ArBmtXWsd1w8gkl0cVEgESK8vLYF?slug=aw-netspistonstalks010711

The proposed trade will send Anthony, Hamilton, Billups, Nuggets guard Anthony Carter(notes) and forward Shelden Williams(notes) to the Nets. The Nuggets will receive two first-round picks from the Nets, point guard Devin Harris(notes), rookie forward Derrick Favors(notes), guards Anthony Morrow(notes), Ben Uzoh(notes), Stephen Graham(notes) and Quinton Ross(notes). The Pistons will get Nets forward Troy Murphy(notes) and center Johan Petro(notes).

This actually makes a bit more sense to me because the ESPN report had Denver getting 6 players in return for two - they would have to cut three and NJ would have only had 10 on their roster at the end of the day. Under Wojnarowski's scenario at least it's 6 for 4, Denver would only have to cut one, and NJ would be at 12 after the trade.

I feel like the nets are giving up WAY to much.... has Anthony agreed to resign yet because if not this will completely destroy the nets for years.

I agree. I think the Nets are overly zealous on the whole Carmelo Anthony idea...

Sure, it would be great to have him on a team, but, at the expense of several first round picks, Favors, your starting (all-star) point-guard, etc...eh. I dunno.

I say bring on Granger :-).

Anthony is expected to sign on for the extension.

This obviously hasn't happened yet. Sounds as if the Nuggets have decided they're NOT GETTING ENOUGH and now want the Nets to take on Al Harrington's contract. No chance, I say. But somewhere along the line the Nuggets will realize that Favors, Harris, and 2 firsts is a big haul, and they'll take it.

I like that they are being aggressive. Their chance is now. If they wait until summer they won't be able to compete.

They need that big splash to help with their move to Brooklyn, too. From a marketing standpoint, it's not a bad move. Especially if they try and make a push for Paul.

Yeah that is the proposed deal on NBA.com

If this deal does go through, Cleveland fans are going to feel even worse. Denver gets all that for Melo and they had Lebron and got nothing in return.

Picks, Harris, and Favors for Melo? Denver is going to rob New Jersey blind. And LOL at Melo wanting to play with the Pistons' championship backcourt 6 years ago.

Rip is 32, and Melo has reportedly said he wants to play with him. He may also have developed a good friendship with Billups in Denver. They still have Brook Lopez (just checked...holy crap have his rebounds fell off a cliff). That should be enough to win some games and put butts in the seat, which has got to be a huge priority for ownership as they move into Brooklyn (putting a 25-win team across town from Amare and the Knicks could really hurt their efforts to develop and expand their fan base).

How stupid is this?

Denver are really thinking they're in a position to send threat to the NETS of all clubs? hahah this is rich.

This is like Denver's selling a car and are threatening the potential buyer to pay more or they'll donate it to charity:D

Why do I have a feeling all of those deals, like the Utah/Bobcats one before, or the original direct deal between NJ and Denver deal that were all considered done deals, and suddenly broke down cause of none other then Denver, are just smokescreens to get the Knicks to up thier bid? this is just too wierd right now.

Nets have been aggressive, but at this point if I am them I draw a line in the sand. They have made a great offer that is better than anyone can match. I'd call that NY bluff and tell them if they want that middling NY garbage and a late 2013 first rounder vs Favors, Harris, 2 1sts and tax relief to go right ahead. Picking the NY deal over what NJ has offered would get just about any GM fired.

Nets owner tells team to end 'Melo talks

Cross another superstar off the New Jersey Nets' wish list, and let the pursuit of Carmelo Anthony begin anew.

The megadeal to bring Anthony to New Jersey ended in stunning fashion on Wednesday night when Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov told the team to end the long, drawn-out trade talks with the Denver Nuggets.

''There comes a time when the price is simply too expensive,'' Prokhorov said in a news conference before the Nets faced the Utah Jazz. ''I am instructing our team to walk away from the deal.''

The Denver FO handled this as bad as they can.

The real kick here is they still make it out like THEY are why the trade didn't go down.. I mean anyone with a clear mind can see it's cause Melo didn't 'OK' the move.. which means all these months of talks were just stupid and pointless, cause Melo would not 'OK' moving to the Nets, cause he clearly wants the Knicks.

Man, **** Melo.

The Nuggets are a good team, he's just too much of a ***** to battle it out without the help of any "Superfriends".

Have fun losing perenially to the Celtics, Bulls, or Magic in the Eastern Conference playoffs Melo.

The Nuggets aren't going anywhere.

Potential Nets Trade

Holy **** are the Nets getting fleeced if this is the actual deal. An all-star PG, the third pick in last year's draft, and four additional first round picks?

Deal's done pending Melo signing an extension. I agree, the Nets are getting hosed. Nuggets come up sick, considering that Melo will just walk at the end of the season.

Billups
Morrow
Melo
Humphries
Lopez

is an improvement over what they are now and should generate more wins, but it's certainly not a contender.

If they had played their cards better last summer, they wouldn't have to give up so much. If they had drafted Cousins and not absorbed Troy Murphy's salary they could probably do a Cousins/cap space trade straight across and beat all the competition. Now they'll lose all those draft picks.

I am halfway torn between who cares at this point, and finally!

In any case let's get this stupid thing done so that the rest of us can make our own moves once the paralysis is lifted.

Nets are messing up our chances of trading for an impact player by allowing the Nuggets to fleece them like this. Pacers are gonna want Casspi, Landry, and 2 1sts for Granger :(

This really just needs to happen, it's getting really really annoying, Melo this and Melo that. If I were him personally, I'd wait til the summer and just sign with the Knicks. I mean what are the Nets thinking, giving up 3 or 4 first rounders plus Harris & Favors, that's just way too much and they won't be any better than the Nuggets would be. Only thing the Nets would have going for them is they might be seeded higher since its the East where in the West they would be in trouble regardless of where they are ranked.

Casspi, landry, and a first were probably what we were going to have to offer them anyway.

it takes 2 to tangle. they can fleece another team if that team is willing to bend over w/ no lube.

Not really sure what the Knicks have to offer since I'm pretty sure they're still dealing with Isaiah draft fallout
