BSPN/MVP award-both are jokes

Okay, first off I would like to say what everyone here already knows. BSPN is A JOKE. They did the Kings/Lakers recap and they acted like Kobe owned Ron. Comments like "no problems there", I would've loved it if they had covered his misses(since he had a lot of them).

Second, I would like to say that the MVP doesn't mean as much as it did a while ago anymore. Earlier in this season we heard how Chauncey Billups could be MVP. Well he's not even the most important player on that team, Ben Wallace. I personally feel that Ron Artest deserves to be considered for MVP. He won't get it though because you have to be one of the "superstars" in the league and play in a big market or on a team that everyone loves. IMO the fact that he took a 13th place team in THE WEST to 7th says a lot. This team was playing awful before he got here, now they're playing great. Unfortunately he won't even be considered for MVP or DPOY(again) because he's not someone loved by the league-Kobe, Nowitzki, Billups, etc. The only player I think who deserves it instead of Ron is Nash. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like MVP stands for Most Valuable Player anymore-it seems like it stands for most popular player.

He didn't play enough games and your team needs 50+ victories. Ron is proving to be an MVP candidate, and if we do really well next year I think he'll be considered. This year it's going to be tough.

Ron probably doesnt qualify for it anyways, due to the number of games he missed. Maybe with a whole season next year(hopefully), Ron can contest for that award next season. Oh, and everyone here knows that Kobe scored garbage points that padded his stats in the end, and Greg Anthony sucks as an 'analyst', so I dont really listen to much of what those guys have to say.

George Karl was considered for COY last year because of the nuggets turnaround(correct me if I'm wrong here). Should it be the same way for Ron?

Quite obviously Ron is not going to be an MVP in a season when he singlehandedly scuttled his first team's hopes by abandoning them.

Now however if he, and we, are able to keep this rolling next year I could definitely see him getting some votes, although his hard to statistically quantify game will probably prevent him from ever actually getting it unless he can become a consistent 20+pt scorer in addition to the rest. Unless of course we win a title. Then all of a sudden SOMEBODY on our team would have to be considered in the running, and maybe Ron could get squeezed in under the "Bill Russel" exception.

P.S. Chauncey for MVP was a bit silly, but he got off to a spectacular start, and so did the Pistons, so you can see how it could come about.

Best Player on Best team (at the time) usually has a shot. You can argue Big Ben is the best player, but Chauncey is pretty amazing (although they have struggled lately).

Ron should be crowned the NBA's MVPWASDADTWTTS this season.

= Most Valuable Player Who Also Summarily Destroyed A Different Team Within The Same Season

2004 winner: Vince Carter
2003 winner: Rasheed Wallace

funny

hey BMiller52, i wrote almost exactly the same thing about how Artest should be considered for MVP on the realgm board, did u read it? i even mentioned George Karl...VERY errie haha

ESPN's recap summed up Ron's performance a little more accurately. Wouldn't be surprised if the ESPN guys were just giving their somewhat impromtu reactions to the highlight package put together by ESPN which really didn't show how hard Kobe had to work for his points tonight.

In any case, just drop by any Laker board. They know what Ron did tonight. ;)

Yeah. I honestly didn't think Ron should be a MVP candidate, but this game convinces me. I agree with you.
