Bring Back Beno

rainmaker

Hall of Famer
He's got a player option this summer. Get on the phone with his agent, and promise a multi-year deal and persuade him not to pick up his option.

First let me state there are other PG's I'd rather have. Of what available, I'd consider Hinrich and Dragic as well. I like Dragic a lot. If Hou brings him back, see if you can get Lowry. I like both.

But I also know who we are. We're the Sac Kings, owned by the Maloof brothers. We no longer have an arena in place. I think Beno might be the best of our realistic options, and he fits so well with Reke. He is great off the ball and would play well off Cuz as well. Veteran presence. Knows the guys. Likes Sac and spent his last off season here.

This doesn't take into account draft day, which could change this scenario if a trade were to happen.

Does he really? I thought he was kind of unhappy and glad to get out of Sac.

Doesn't he still own house in Sacramento and lives there during the off-season. Isn't his wife a Sacramento girl as well?!

I am sure I read that somewhere.

Anyway, I always felt trading Beno was a mistake on our part. Last year he was our most consistent and arguably our best player. Highly dependable player with a deadly mid range pull up jumpshot, He provided some steady veteran leadership when we needed to calm things down. I said we would miss him this year and IMHO we rally have despite IT being a surprise packet.

This time last year we had 2 good things going, 2 nice 3 man rotations in the front court (Cousins - Dalembert - JT) and backcourt (Reke - Thornton - Beno) who all played well together and complemented each other. All we needed to do was address the SF problem and we would be set. Well, we just plain ****ed up and we are a mess all over the roster.

I would bring back Beno in a second. Can we revert the Beno for Salmons trade?! :D

No. If we're going to replace IT in the starting lineup, it better be for an upgrade. Beno was pretty darn awful for Mil last season.

Dragic would make sense, but the dude is going to get a massive pay-day from somebody. I'd rather spend the 6-8 mil he's going to get on securing an upgrade at SF or PF

Errr...Beno was not really used all that well by the Bucks this season. In fact they had no idea what to do with him. So now we measure player's worth based on one season as opposed to the body of work in their career?!

No wonder we are in such a mess as a franchise!

Beno from the last 2 seasons in Sacramento would absolutely be an upgrade and I have no doubt he would rediscover that form here. Having said that, there is very little chance we would bring Beno back as it would mean taking on money which we just ain't going to do!

Why waste money to bring in a mediocre guard in an already crowded backcourt of IT, Reke, Thornton, Jimmer, T-will? There's no room for a guy like Beno, especially coming off his worst season as as a pro.

Unless the Guard is a massive upgrade (ala Lowry) then we should not even be thinking about bringing another guard into the mix. Spend the money where it needs to be spent: on SF and PF

I don't know... I like Beno, and I was very disappointed to see him traded last summer. But now, with IT, I don't see how he could get the minutes he needs to be effective. I could consider him if we trade IT for a legit SF starter. In this case, he could be interesting. Basically, it's a way to correct one of the big mistakes Petrie made last summer.

Beno was really good with the Kings. Deadly midrange shooter, he could run the offense, and was a veteran presence. We missed him a lot this year. He was the most consistent player in our roster, that's why I don't care if he had a bad lockout season with the Bucks, a team who clearly didn't know how to use him.

This. ^^^^^^^

I don't know how this works with IT in town. Bring back Beno in place of Jimmer? Sure. But Jimmer's minutes were limited, adn even the oens he got were as much about developing him as necessary/earned. Otherwise with IT/Reke/Thornton there just aren't spare minutes. Maybe TWill too. So then let's say you move Thornton. SO then its It/Reke/Beno? Plenty of ballhandling, but then your only guard size is Reke and you spedn a lot of minutes with a mini-defenseless IT/Beno pairing. Maybe if we throw TWill into that mix somehow it can work.
