Breaking: Artest Traded to Houston

Maybe Carmichael Dave tags along with RonRon to Houston where there's 4 big sports radio stations. After all, H-town is 4th largest city in U.S. Would need to change his name when he got there and finally learn to dress like an adult instead of mostly looking like a teenager who just got done mowing someones lawn.:D
Ouch.

:p

Seriously, I think Dave got little too close to Ron the person instead of RonRonMcBillBill the Tru Warier. Clouded his judgment just a tad, IMHO.

I don't post much, but do spend a good deal of time reading Kingsfans so I hope this has some credability to it. Anyway, take it for what it is worth...

Personally I think it COULD be a good deal depending on who the other player to be named is. If it is Donte Greene, the Kings did well. We are well on our way to rebuilding if this is true.

Wow! very nice trade...getting Donte Green is nice too... But we have to wait till August 14...hope Ron Artest doesn't go crazy or say something in the meantime

As for your last comment.. ON PAPER that team looks good, but Yao/McGrady have yet to prove anything.. Adding Artest to the mix might screw what they had up. Probably not, but I don't see them as a contender because of the different personalities they have. I wouldn't be surprised if the injury bug hit them (like it does every year) and you have Artest trying to take the team over only to have Yao/McGrady come back, and then some descension form because Artest is still in "command" mode.
I'll be rooting for Houston in the West this year, as well as my team last season, New Orleans. But if Houston implodes and that 09 pick we get (we get an 09 pick, right?) turns out to be better than expected, well, I won't complain too much.

If you look at it on paper, it looks like we owned that trade, but it really works out best for both teams. Houston is good enough to compete now and for a few years down the road.

Hall of Famer
I was able to scout Greene this year, and I was actually looking at him with my mock draft anywhere from 12 to 17 or so.. He's definitely top 20 in talent.

Below is my writeup on Greene I did near the end of the college season.

"Greene has tremendous height at the SF position and athleticism which will create matchup problems for anyone attempting to guard him whether it be a SF or a PF. Donte can hit open shots out to NBA 3pt range with ease and can also create his own shot off the dribble. Greene has shown he can get to the line when he wants, but seems to shy away from contact and shoot jumpers more so then driving into the lane. Green isn't a bad rebounder as his stats might indicate. It has more to do with him not being in position on the offensive end to get the rebound. His defensive rebound totals matchup with any tweener forward in the draft so as long as he drives to the basket more then he shouldn't have a problem. Defensively Greene is not a liability, but he isn't a stopper either. More of a weak side help defender. Greene also needs to learn that he has four other teammates on the floor. He tends to hold the ball too long before taking a shot."
I watched him play a lot last year too. In fairness to Greene, and, this is just my opinion, his whole team tended to be selfish with the ball. I thought at the beginning of the season he played less selfishly, but as the season wore on he got into the habit of, I've got the ball, I shoot the ball.

He has beautiful form on his jump shot, and if his shot selection were better, his percentages would go up. He's also a decent passer and a good rebounder for a SF. At least at the college level. Lets not forget that he's one year removed from highschool. I don't know about you, but when I was one year removed from highschool, I didn't have a clue.

I like the trade, but we have to be realistic... D. Greene is not going to play a whole lot this year...is he? He is very young and will need time to get used to the NBA. I think his role this year might be a spark-plug off the bench. He will probably only play sparingly.

As for the #1 pick, who knows what could happen. Houston looks to have an unbelievable team right now, but what happens if Yao or McGrady goes down or even both?

I love B. Jackson, but he doesn't excite me any more. His game was successful when he was quicker than his opponent or out-worked him. At the age he is at he will not be able to give what he used to. Still nice to have him back.

EEK…The excitement. Everybody do the Happy Dance. Finally something that looks and sounds good. Thanks Ron for the several nice playoff games, good luck in Houston and I wish Rick luck. This is great for both parties….Seriously, I’m happy that there was some positive movement, let’s keep it going with more good moves.

The only thing that gets me nervous is Sean Singletary. If we have to trade a player back to Houston, I really hope it isn’t Sean…Take Ewing or Sheldon, but maybe they want Quincy. But it’s rumored that the other player that Houston will get will be let go. Hopefully it wont be Sean.

With this obvious move toward youth and a rebuild. I wonder if Miller and Moore will se more time on the bench in favor of JT and Spencer than if we were going for the playoffs.
If they're both on the team, then I think that Reggie will play them. Isn't it contract year for our coach? I'm guessing he's still interested in winning more games than last year, but you never know. Hopefully the young guys will play much more.

Man, I'd like to know if we got Houston's first round draft pick in 2009 or 2010.

Everyone in Sac (or most everyone) is saying it's 2009 but most reports out of Houston I'm hearing say it's 2010 (or more generic, "a future first rounder"). Houston sports radio is buzzing that they stole Artest for nothing. A washed up BJax, having to give up none of the pieces from their 55 win team, a totally unproven Greene, and a "future first round pick," plus getting a Kings player or players to be named later.

All that being said, I like personally like the deal for both teams - I said like it, not love it:)

Didn't they say that they were going to drop the other player that the Kings send over?

WELCOME BACK BOBBY!!!

Im so happy i can hardly type right lol. Dont let the door hit you on the way out Ron. I just hope the filler on our part is not Singeltary and turns out to be Douby.

Apparently were gonna get a reaction from Ron Artest later on News 10 right now.....Brian May said we will be suprised at what he wants to talk about. I wonder if its not gonna be the typical "i had a nice run in Sac and im sad to leave" crap that players usually give to there teams.

NOTHING Ron Artest says could possibly surprise me. I'm just glad the days of him speaking while in the uniform of the Sacramento Kings are numbered.

options

It's all about options. Look at Portland and the fantastic job they did stockpiling young talent and picks and expirings. Next year, who knows, KT/BM are expiring we have 2 1sts so who's to say we can't package for a higher pick? I also wouldn't be surprised to see a buyout of BJax given his age and reluctance I'm sure to play for a rebuilding effort, allowing him to sign with a contender......just as a loyalty move.

??? Bobby Jackson is reluctant to play for a rebuilding team? Says whom?

Bobby is an expiring contract. They aren't going to buy him out. It would make less than zero sense. He's going to finish his career in the city that truly gave him the best years of his NBA life. He'd be a fool not to, and Bobby's not a fool.

He already has a house here and established roots..Why wouldn't he want to work in the city he lives?

Haha, remember that game in Houston where Artest almost single-handedly won the game for us?

You always wonder if things like that affect GM's decision making.

Bobby did look a little unenthusiastic but im sure he is a little dissapointed because he just got traded to a non-playoff team to finish off whats left of his career, and its his 3rd move in like 3 years...so I think he is just getting tired. I think he will remember his old self when he is back in Arco thoe. Who knows, maby we can pull a Portland and possibly sneak into the playoffs....doubtful but you never know.

Pull a Portland? They haven't snuck into the playoffs for awhile.
