He already has a house here and established roots..Why wouldn't he want to work in the city he lives?
Most definitely!!

And in his interview with Bryan May, Bobby Jackson (from his home in Granite Bay) says "I think it will be a great fit for me, especially at this point in my career."

That pretty much says it all.

:D

This is the trade that I wanted, but never thought would happen. I can tell you I've honestly felt that a B-Jax/Aaron Brooks trade for Artest/Douby would be awesome (isn't trade machine great?).

IMO, I feel this is just as good: we back get one of my favorite players from the glory days, and one who the Kings have never been able to replace. And we get a promising draft pick who definitely slipped to the late first round.

Yes, this trade does not make us better, but I think it's a positive move for the future while keeping things entertaining in the interim.

Man I can't wait for the season to begin!!!!!! Even if we don't make any further moves, just losing Ron Artest and seeing Bobby Jackson and the young players play (Greene, Thompson) is enough! I'm so excited

I know this is kind of a mood killer and pretty random but im watching those 2002 wcf videos again and i feel bad....I feel bad that our great team came away with nothing, we tried so damn hard all those years and players like Webber, Jackson, Peja, Hedo, Bibby, Christie will never get the rings they deserved. All we came out of that series with is a false reputation for being soft and a sense of being robbed that no one else felt because they were all to drenched in Lakers hype. sigh.....I wish we could go back in time and have another chance at it with those players.

Donte Greene could end up being a all-star caliber type player in the nba. And to add to that our risk level is as minimal as possible. We are becoming an athletic team.

FWIW I just went and checked about 10 mock drafts and they all had Green going 14-18. IIRC he slipped because of potential motivation problems.

So I think based on what has been posted about this kid and seeing some of the highlights, he has lottery pick potential.

Look at our future depth chart as well on this:

PG Beno/1st round draft pick
SG Martin/Douby
SF Greene/Garcia
PF Thompson/Williams
C Hawes/1st round draft pick

Looking like a pretty good rebuild job so far and the crazy thing is we haven't had a top 5 pick in the draft, which is what normally spurns these things.

When i ment pull a portland, i ment maby we can surprise and be a force out there like they did...and possibly make the the playoffs.
While making the playoffs is very unlikely, and probably not even desirable, at this point, it can't be ruled out.

Two of the teams ahead of us underwent a major makeover. Nuggets lost Camby without compensation, and Warriors lost Baron, though they were able to sign Maggette and some other guys. It wouldn't be a surprise, if both teams slipped some this year. Additionally, Dallas and Suns took steps back last year after their trades, and might do so more this year, with the growing age of their core. Clippers might have gained, since Brand didn't play much last year anyway, and BD is a huge upgrade at the PG spot.

Sure, we too lost Artest for little immediate gain, and this shall be the first year in a long time, when we shall be without Bibby for the whole year. If we keep our focus on the young kids, as we should, we are also likely to slip. Just that the fight for the playoff spot doesn't seem as far fetched as it did when the offseason started. We shall need a huge helping hand from at least couple of teams above us.

If we are in the fight for a playoff spot, I hope we do get it. Chances of a high lottery pick are very remote at that point, and there isn't much difference between a 13th pick and 16th pick.

Well, I have to say that I'm very pleased with the deal. We get a (low) 1st rounder, Donte Green, and Bobby (an expiring) for a guy who was going to walk next year anyway. The nice thing about Green and Thompson are that they are exactly the kind of player we need to put next to Hawes: Athletic dudes who can rebound. Green can shoot too, and we all know how much Petrie likes players with a jump shot. He'll obviously have to learn better shot selection, and is definitely a long term project, but we have enough young bigs that we can take a chance on him. If he pans out into a quality SF, a starting lineup including Green (6'10), Thompson (6'11), Hawes (7'0), and Martin (6'7) is large, and we'd have all kinds of mismatches to exploit.

Yeah it isn't crazy far stretched, but were gonna need some major help from other teams. We need to start Salmons in Artest place, that way we arn't really losing to much offensively and Salmons has respectable defense. I think something we have to remember is the fact that even without Artest we still beat very good teams last year, most notably the Mavericks and I think we beat the Spurs without him last year. So if our guys can step up who says we can't beat them again this year and if we put it together maby take down some of those teams we should beat but never do. We will not tank, im not wasting an entire year of Kings basketball just to pick up a player next year. I might be more open to it after im done with my Senior year this year but while I'm still in highschool i need something to cheer me up after a ****ty day at school.

No offense to wanting a good senior year, but I would rather the Kings stink it up if it means we will be a contender for the NBA championship for the 5 to 10 years instead of just fighting for 8th spot in the playoffs.

Yeah i get where your at, i just want to stay competitive. Can anyone tell me what happened to our draft picks when our team sucked nuts in the 90's??? All our best players came from late 1st rounders or trades.....

The motivational problems had a lot to do with the coaching they had at Syracuse. Greene felt he wasn't used correctly so he ended up just jacking up shot after shot when he got the ball. That's also why he was a one and done, and why he slipped from about #10 at the beginning of the year to late teens early 20s. Phoenix took a long hard look at Greene after Budinger dropped out.

Overall it's a good trade. We got YOUTH for Artest. That's what we all wanted. The heck with Houston thinking they ripped us off. We are in the know about Ron Artest, and his antics. We all know that he was gone after next year.

This is the situation.... I would like to pose a question here........ Anyone could answer...

Would you rather have Ron Artest, and his salary off the books after the 08-09 season, OR would you rather have Donte Greene, and a 2009 first round draft pick on the books after the 08-09 Season?

For me the answer is simple.. I would rather take on 2 first round draft picks salaries which equate to about 4mil depending on where the pick is next year. 4mil is worth taking on 2 first round draft picks.

I like Greene and Brooks fine, but you are talking about them there liek they are stars. They are just mid-20s picks. Good looking ones maybe, but that's hardly a price to pay from the Rockets perspective for them suddenly being able to put together a really scary looking team with a Yao/TMac/Artest trio. And Artest/Battier TOGETHER on the wings when its time to shut people down? My goodness.

LOL, kobe is going to get worked the whole game between battier and artest on him. :)

^^^ The quote above, I didn't see Brick's post.

Brick.. The team is only scary on paper. They have to be healthy, and Artest needs to play team ball for that team to be scary on the floor. I truly believe that is there were injury issues this year the Rockets could have a hard time making the playoffs. I find it hard to believe that McGrady, and Artest will mesh on the floor. It just doesn't look like that good of a fit. But I have been proven wrong in the past so who knows. Maybe I will wish upon a star and hope our new draft pick falls somewhere in the lottery ;)

I'm hearing that it's both the 2nd rounders this year. I wish we don't have to give up Sean. I was pretty excited when the Kings picked him. I think he was just holding back in summer league. Obviously compared to the FGs he took in his college career to what he did in Vegas, he was extremely passive. If it is him, hopefully the Kings can use whatever cash considerations to get him back

Wow.....everyone before 2000 with the lucky exception of Peja were not very good picks...we squandered our #3 pick for some guy ive personally never heard of, being that i was born that year....And Jason was a good player but seeing that those players were on the board makes me want to kill myself. Its funny...we are probably the only team that literally gets better players with late draft picks than lottery picks...why not just trade our lotteries away every single year for a 16-25 because thats where all are talent has come from...

Anyone know if HOU 2009 1st rounder is protected in any way? Say Yao goes down again and either T-Mac or Artest has issues and we see a real bad year in Houston, could we end up with a lottery pick?

Very rare case and honestly I hope it doesn't happen, but its a question worth asking.

Not true. We had a good looking spurt int he 90s with Brian Grant.. I think Petrie (pick wise) is at about 80% on good picks... that's a good track record because he has had a lot of late first rounders in his Kings tenure.

The part I hate about Petries picks is that a LOT of fans here want Petrie to do things other GMs are able to do, like purchase a pick, or trade a second roudner for a late first.. Stuff like that happens every year, and players that are picked in those types of positions seem to become decent roleplayers. There are a few of us die hard draft fans that have as good of record in our mocks as Petrie does recently in the real deal.
