Brad Miller

Oh, do not even got there on the comparisons.

I don't think bajaden was presuming to compare Brad to those basketball greats. I read it as examples of why you cannot judge a player simply by whether he can jump or run fast.

Brad Miller is out for tonights game in Utah. Some kind of "quad" injury. Reported by KHTK radio. Maybe Spencer gets on the floor more... lots.

WHAT? u serious?

I'm listening to an interview with Assistant Coach Jason Ham right now. That's the report on the radio... Brad is out for tonights game. He did say that probably both Reef and Hawes get more minutes than otherwise would have been the plan.

well, looks like we will finally get the opportunity. everyone who has been drooling over hawes. lol. not like he's gonna be kevin garnett, but watching moore and thomas has driven me to the peaceful land of insanity

At least you're in the peaceful portion of that land. I happen to be in the violent section

After seeing Hawes's potential over the last couple days I say move Miller to 4 and try starting Hawes at the 5. Might as well. We don't have much to lose and the more minutes for Hawes the better. That is once he gets his wind back from missing training camp. I am thinking he is a bit out of shape as to why Theus seems to only play him a couple minutes at a time.

Theus is also probably worried about Hawes' recent knee surgery. In any case, a 7 footer with a reliable fall away shot is hard to stop. He's the only thing to keep me watching an entire game. I think he could be great if his offense continues to evolve and if his hands are not the size of Mikki's. Did anyone pay attention to that? He seemed to be able to catch a ball.

Sometimes a change is necessary if only to keep fan interest. It'll be a crime if no trade occurs.

Yah, true.. I say once Hawes is 100% though stick him in at the 5 and start him. Eitehr that or put him at the 4. I would put Brad against whoever is better until Hawes understands the NBA game. Miller/Hawes is much better than Miller/whoever at C/PF.

Hawes reminded me of Dirk with that fall away.

I thought of the exact same thing - to a degree.

Dirk was 20-years-of-age his first year in the NBA, so close in age to the 19-year-old Hawes. He averaged something like 8 PPG his first season, but was up to 17 PPG his second year. He struggled mightily that first season in Dallas - but they saw his big-time potential. Of course, since then he's been NBA All-Star and league MVP producing around 20 PPG and 8-10 boards consistently. Dirk also played at age 17-19 around lots of professional European and American players in international competitions while Hawes had but one year of NCAA PAC 10 basketball.

It's probably going to be a couple years before Spencer will have the kind of impact that justifies his first round #10 pick. Hopefully, he rounds into shape, the knee is ok so he gets his rookie minutes, and progresses over this long season.
