Brad Gets No Respect

I would take Yao if I didn't know what the rest of the team looked like. Brad has more versatility, but his weaknesses make it tough unless you have the right system or right teammates. He is in the right system here to maximize his skills, and had the right teammate in Indiana (shotblocking, post playing PF). But if you took him and made him the starting center alongside Juwan Howard, or Mark Blount, or Udonis Haslem or a lot of the other PFs in the league that front line would be pretty weak.

It's All Cool ...

I love our King's flying under the radar ...

King's will just go about their business and get their jobs done.

Yao makes me mad. With his size, talent and potential he could really be a dominant player. Too often though he misses dunks, hangs his head and gets tired way too easily. He just seems TIMID! Maybe a cultural thing, but he'll never be a dominant force in this league with that type of demeanor.

Yao will be notthing more than <20 <10 player. The condition he has along with him seeming to stress out easily will never allow him to play big minutes. The only thing he can do is become more efficient during his 30 minutes a game.

Somebody compared him to Rik Smits, better than that probably, but may not be far off unless he blossoms.

Yao's shown flashes of brilliance: remember that clever little scoop to Cat? His pump fakes, his touch...you can't teach creativity (not to mention height). However, Van Gundy has taken it upon himself to sap all the life out of the big fella. That's the problem.
Meanwhile, I'm sorry, but in terms of both current impact and potential, Yao has the edge; and I'm a huge Brad fan. Yao changes the flow of the game entirely. Watch a game when Yao's out, how different it is. He should be having an even greater impact if Van Gundy allowed him to be a part of the offense and Tmac learned to feed off of his teammates a little better. On the other hand, watch Brad...he's a cog in a machine, a guy who feeds off of what goes on around him. Which is great, but Yao is the impact guy, he can be the engine that drives your entire team. And cogs are easier to find than engines.

well, i didn't mean to start a who's better post. all i wanted to say, which some of you clearly understood from your replies, was it's disrespectful to brad to say yao has no competition in the west at the center position.

given the criterium of selecting the best player THIS season THUS far listed at the center position, i don't see how anyone can say that yao is head and shoulders above the rest of the competition.

I just wish that Brad Miller would get more aggressive  .

I love his game, but on the offensive side of the ball he needs to take his open shot. Call it unselfish if you want to. But there is a reason why BM gets more shots when Webber is out of the line up. Webb has been accused of dominating the ball. But I find it odd that Cutino finds his shots, Bibbiy gets his shots, but when Miller and Stojakovich does not get enough shots, Chris is the blame for dominating the ball. Those guys need to be aggressive on the offensive end. Not that they should force shots, but how many times have we seen Brad pump fake then pass the ball. Either fake and go to the rack or shoot.

Well if you look at the votes, Yao has no competition at the center posistion. And with Amare playing center all year, Miller is certainly not an All-Star.

Definitely I pick Yao!

He has a move like "the Dream" you have never seen before I think. That two fakes over Jermaine O'Neal when he was a Rookie looks like Hakeem's signature move itself. He has potential and skills, he has shooting range also, and I'm sure you all don't know that he has an outside stroke, especially three point, but he's just shy to shoot it!

All Chinese players are taught to shoot and shoot, they are very good!

But if you ask me who to pick, Wang Zhizhi or Yao Ming, I pick Wang... Bottomline, Wang is better than Yao. It's just that Wang's talent was wasted and left out due to Yao's popularity and young age and also the Coaches in the NBA(Don Nelson,etc...) did not trust Wang's ability and talent(Dallas,etc..)... Wang is better than him, trust me!

Yao is just overhyped!

Wang Zhizhi better than yao? I agree that yao may have been a bit overhyped but there is nooooo way that Zhizhi has proved that he is better than Yao. Ming is still a consistent performer worthy of starting on most NBA teams - which is more than anyone could say about Wang.

Well, you don't live in Asia, and probably you have never seen Wang's game, in Asian basketball, Asian games or Chinese Basketball League! Wang was like Michael Jordan in Chinese and in Asia....And he contributed and powered the China to become the best basketball team in Asia since late 80's to 90's....Yao was apparently called the next big thing, but Wang is definitely better!

You have no clue how good Wang is....

comparing Chinese leauge to the NBA is like comparing And1 to the NBA. Some players are better at that level (or type of sytle played) but their game doesn't translate over.

stein was writing an article about who HE would vote to start the all-star game, not who the fans actually voted for. sure if you look at the actual fan voting, yao would probably beat out anyone.

and in writing this article, stein eliminated amare from consideration because he's listed as a forward. i submit to you the best competition for yao that is listed as a center in the west is brad miller. and based on the stats right now, yao is not blowing away the competition.

If Bodiroga is the best player in S&M over Pedja, still, Pedja is better than Bodiroga if he (Bodiroga) plays in the NBA. Get my point.......

I was not comparing different Leagues, 'coz nobody compares the NBA! I compare both their true skills and their history of playing each other... Wang's team always beat Yao's team, it's like Jordan was Wang and Karl was Yao in the finals, and IMO he (Wang) was a better player than him!

I'll say it again!

Yao is overhyped! Wang is better but older now!

You have no clue how good Wang is... ;)

well if you read my post I didn't really compare Yao to Wang either ;)

I don't live in Asia but I am asian and have Chinese immigrant friend's who know basketball, if that gives me any credibility on knowing Wang's game.

To get back to the title of the thread, I think Brad will be getting a lot more respect.

:D

^oh no doubt...he already has from our oppostion the past few games...but that kinda thing happens when you are player of the week

iheartBrad

Brad gets respect when hes agressive. He gets to the line beause hes going to th basket and hs not acting like a baby. Maybe he'll see the similiarity...
