In time.
He was pretty disinterested early on. His Greek coach said Peja was a much better player after he scored 20 points with the implication that he'd be willing to move the ball, rebound, play defense Etc once he'd gotten his on the offensive end.

I agree that he could do it when he put his mind to it. I remember vividly him doing a great job checking Dirk in one particular game - very clutch. But... what Funky said

Adelman once said that Peja was the most underrated defender on the team. And regardless of how long it took him to adjust, he did become a good defender and deserves to be credited for that. I get sick and tired of people throwing out comments like that, when they have no frigging idea what their talking about. Of course I'm not talking about you.

He's nothing like Manu as a player though so he's not going to become that on offense.

I remember Peja defending Dirk and doing a good job. He was not Artest good but he was a good team defender.
As far as the Serbian Team they played splendid defense versus the Boomers and were alright in the Gold Medal Game until USA's bench came in and went on something like a 23 to 6 run. Boogie, George, Butler, Lowry along with Durant is a pretty solid group

What was Manu doing at 23 years old? I'm not say Bogdan is going to replicate Manu. Just that WE don't know what he WILL do yet
Peja became a solid team defender a couple years in. He wasn't a stopper but he gave effort and was consistently where he was supposed to be. To the point that I got really tired of hearing that he was a weak defender. Whenever I heard that I knew it was coming from someone that didn't actually watch the game (or didn't understand what they were watching) and instead relied on a stereotype.
But yeah, for some reason he was a guy that guarded Dirk better than almost anyone else I've seen. And then helped Dirk & co win their ring in 2011.

One correction -- I don't think Peja was a good TEAM defender at all. He was not disruptive in any way, did not challenge shots up high, was a wuss and did not like to stick his nose in there.
But what he really did become during the latter half of his Kings years was a very solid MAN defender. He would really stay in front of his own guy, and as others have noted was quite effective against stretch 4s. The sort of guy who wouldn't make a bad defensive team much better, but who could handle his own responsibilities and not be a liability to a good defensive team.

Couldn't agree more. He was at least a "B"/B+ defender one on one; in help defense he was probably less than a C. Just didn't have the athleticism or length to challenge from the weak side. By the way, I think Turkoglu was the mirror opposite - probably a B team defender/weakside guy, and a C one-on-one defender.

Bogdanovic is not going to be a Manu kind of player, not even a Peja. But doesn't mean he's not a good basketball player, I think he fits well in the NBA game.
Better players than Bogdanovic didn't succeed in the NBA (Jasikevicius? Spanoulis?), he will. 15 pts per game with high %, high IQ basketball plays and playing with the "fire" he has.

I think the implication was that he was going to be a Manu type of player. That doesn't mean he'll have the same impact that Manu had, but that he's a tough hustle type of player that can shoot the ball. How good he'll be remains to be seen, but every player has his own path, some of which he has no control over. Right now I'm optimistic about his future. He looks like a player, but then so have a lot of others that failed. However, anyone whose first name is half the spelling of his sur name has to succeed. Right?

The Kings defense of that era asked Peja to do what he could do. Defend his man and play his role in the team defense. So I agree with you.

What is with you guys who are so sure of your ability to predict stuff like this? You don't friggin know, alright? Maybe it's the fact that some people on boards like this will never be heard if they don't act all authoritative and all-knowing. But, really, it's a cliche in sports talk to act like to you know the future when you don't. For me anyway, I prefer people to talk logically about what they do know and what they think, without spewing it out like you're Carnac the Magnificent.

Come on, I wrote 200 message in almost ten years on this board. I don't wanna be heard by anyone. I just try to give you my point of view on European basketball as I watch Euroleague, Eurocup and some European leagues more than the average american Kings fan, I guess. For example I was suggesting Messina as a coach back in 2009 when he wasn't as hyped as now, and he was already that good (guess who was Ginobili coach when he was winning everything at 23 y.o.). Just because living here in Europe I have a closer look at these competitions. Of course, I can be wrong!

The impact that Manu had was totally unpredictable, even RC Buford said he didn't expect Ginobili to be that good. If he had known it, he would have picked him with the first round pick because was better even moneywise considering the number of years under the rookie salary scale. Bogdanovic is already 23 like Manu was, with these players is easier to predict their path, even if not for sure of course. Jasikevicius for example was by far the best point guard in Europe, he was like Rubio with a 40% three point shot, he won three Euroleagues in a row with two different teams. Then he chose to join the NBA and his coach was playing him off the ball as a SG! It's like... you have Cousins and you use him as a three point shooter... no sense. I like what I see from him. I know others are concerned with his athleticism, and I'm by no means an expert, but I think it's above average. As I said before, seems on par with a guy like Hedos

Buddy Hield is the future at SG.
Bogdanovic will need to get stronger, because he will need to log more minutes at SF to get PT next year.
But, in today's "positionless" NBA, there is not much difference between the SG/SF swingman positions.

He'll have to do at SF, because Buddy Heild isn't going anywhere. God if the Kings can draft smart and pick up a blue chip FA Power Forward ... could be real good.
