Board of Govs Meeting Updates-DAY 2

I think the majority of fans realize by now that over the past 10 years the city has really F'd this up. Repeating this over and over and over again isnt doin a damn thing to move the situation forward. KJ was not here 4 years ago. Give the guy a chance. Do not lump him in with the city council or our previous POS mayor. KJ is actually busting his arse to keep this team here.

Showtime: if you despise Burkle so much why dont YOU open your rolodex and call another billionaire that meets your high moral standard. You sound like a troll.

FOX40 News exclusive at 5:30, the new arena plan unlike any other we've heard..can it work and will you help get it done?

Can someone in Sac watch this and update those of us outside the area.

eff crandell

I've known about him for a month or two and I despise him already

Just a bunch of newscasters trying to get hits on their website and people to watch their show. Deceptive ****s...

Where is the money coming from? How about their beer distributorship biz. They sold the business with the most stable income stream. That should buy them some time as they burn through that cash. But if the Palms is as bad as some think, that burn rate could be awful high.

They sold the beer distributorship a while back to pay for a payment way back in the game when they were still trying to save the Palms. If you read the other post I made earlier, I stated that its been said that at this point, the Maloofs already loss control of the Palms and are only staying as the operator and minority owner. The fact that they have money in the figure of millions leads me to wonder about the reality of their financial situations. Its bad obviously because they couldn't save the Palms. But is it really as bad as some are claiming? All speculations.

Just got off conf call with NBA commish David Stern. Genuine interest and intrigue in Sacto mayor Kevin Johnson's proposal.

Maloofs & Anaheim officials given good grades for presentation, but obviously more questions considering relo deadline extended to May 2.

Either way I wouldn't root for them or care so yes.. I would rather have them in Sac.

I have a feeling that someone might have a wing on their right side.. That's as far as I am going to take this.

Your comments make no sense.

Oh and by the way.. You all can tell me how I was right about the Maloofs any time now....

Look at your sig Gary, your freaking Nostradamous. Hey can you PM me some lotto #s? (California Lotto not Draft Lottery ;))

I don't despise Burkle. My point is there's no basis to treat him as a messiah yet. When there's a plan in place to build an arena and the kings stay, then let me know. Otherwise, I'm not going to go all-in because of a press release.

Not sure if this is out there entirely yet, but relocation committee is: OKC's Clay Bennett (chair) Miami's Micky Arison, SA's Peter Holt..

...Utah's Greg Miller, Indiana's Herb Simon, Philly's Ed Snider, Minny's Glen Taylor

Is it a good thing (or bad, or indifferent) that most of the markets here are small markets and most are smaller than Sac (#20)? OKC #45, Miami #16, SA #37, SLC #33, Indy #25, Philly #4, Minny #15.

More bad news. Not seeing Buss on this list:

Kind of makes sense though right? No sense putting people on the committee who are actively trying to torpedo the deal. If I'm the NBA; I want this investigated properly.

Not one owner from any of the team that were expected to vote no. http://www.iamagm.com/news/2011/04/...anaheim.lakers.clippers.warriors.bulls.knicks Not very encouraging. It's a bunch of small timers like indy, minny, and salt lake that may like the idea of big markets being open to them.

I think that the theme here is that most of these owners are behind the scenes guys rather than flamboyant owners with household names and that none of them would appear to be directly impacted one way or the other by the outcome.

The relocation committee headed by Oklahoma City owner Clay Bennett, who moved the SuperSonics from Seattle three years ago, will research some of the assertions made by Johnson and the potential for success in Anaheim while competing against the Lakers and Clippers. The panel also will recommend a relocation fee the Maloofs would have to pay should they move.

Though eyebrows were raised with Bennett's appointment because of the Sonics' contentious departure to his home state of Oklahoma, Stern said there was no conflict and that Bennett had been chosen because he has been active in the Kings' situation and other league business.

"Maybe Sacramento will think ... -- although I don't -- that [Bennett] favors movement. In this case, he favors what's best for the league and the Kings," Stern said during a conference call.

Stern said Sacramento's problem was the outdated Power Balance Pavilion, not its market size. Johnson told owners Thursday that the city is committed to building a new entertainment center even if the Kings leave.

Stern seemed dubious, noting that the discussion of a new building in Sacramento is "usually an eye-roller" at the league because there's been no progress toward it for years. But Johnson's meeting also included a report from the group conducting the feasibility study for a new arena that should be completed by next month, and it made enough of an impression for the Maloofs and Bennett to recommend the extension.

"It was just felt that this was a good presentation and we should delve a little bit more to understand what its ramifications are," Stern said.

.....

He wouldn't predict how things would end, but hopes the committee can finish its work in two more weeks.

"It was sort of like a timeout," Stern said. "This is difficult, let's take some time here to better understand it. This is very important. It's important to the Maloof family. It's important to [Anaheim Ducks owner Henry Samueli] and the people of Anaheim, and it's important to mayor Johnson and the people of Sacramento. And so the committee wanted to do some work."

Can't help but notice how he mentioned the people of Anaheim before the people of Sacramento.

But they are obviously flustered.

Yeah there acting like they aren't the baby's daddy, oh sorry I accidentally changed it to Maury Povich.

Also CBS/Rise Guys reported/speculating Chris Webber and Ron Burkle have been working together.

Color me confused. I read what came from the Burkle group and they never said they wanted to buy the team. They said they wanted Sacramento to have an NBA team and they could provide a great in-the-arena and outside-the-arena experience.

Did KJ say Burkle wanted to buy the Kings or is this an inflammatory misrepresentation?

What is arrogant about defending the property you own that has never been for sale? This idea that someone can just waltz in and take over is silly.

Grant chiming in....(is the tide turning?):

KJ made an impression at the meetings, that the NBA thought there was enough momentum to look into it. IF KJ can deliver on those promises, then the Kings will stay. The Maloofs are not 100% done with the city, despite what he has said before, the Commish wants the Kings to stay in the city IF they can get a new arena. Says its all on the mayor right now.

Simple and truthful. The committee will examine the claims made by alll parties. Seems reasonable. There is no way a decision could be made just because a bunch of people made an impassioned pitch especially with last minute information.

KJ listed in order of preference what he would like:

1. Have Maloofs as owners of the Kings in Sac
2. Have Burkle and other local owners as owner of the Kings in Sac
3. Have the ownership group buy a new team for Sacramento

That's what he would like and not what Burkle said. OK. I presume he also said he would like an arena as that's what seems to be what this all hinges on. None of his wishes will come true without an arena.

I presume that he and Burkle at least talked about those options in order for him to say it at the presentation.
