isnt chauncey billups a free agent after this season? if petrie trades bibby i would want it to be for billups. we could also use tayshaun prince. chauncey, martin, prince as our new staring wing. what do you guys think?

pg=chauncey/price
sg=kevin martin/garcia
sf=prince/anyone other than salmons
pf=anyone better than KT/justin williams
c=anyone better than miller/backup center

Look at it this way -- even if the Kings were to draft an impact big like Oden, Horford or Jianlian the learning curve for a big in the NBA is steep and, barring a miracle trade/free agency season the Kings still aren't going to that good next year. So you're looking at competing a few years down the line at which time Billups will be 32/33. I do think Billups is going to age well as a point guard because he's big and can shoot, and his free agency actually mirrors Steve Nash's from a few years ago in terms of age and accomplishments up to this point, but I still think the preference has to be going young.

i'm looking at competing n.o.w. there are too many teams that haven't had a winning season in years. celtics, hawks, blazers. i dont want the kings to be one of them. and we've sucked for the past 2 years now. i'm not with the whole starting from scratch "retooling" plan. do you wana be like the bobcats? i think not! chauncey is a finals mvp, prince is a good defender and probably shoots better than artest. if we move bibby for chauncey and somehow get prince and a true center i think the kings will be nasty next year

Yeah like the Pistons are really just going to give us 2 starters on a team capable of going to the NBA finals:rolleyes:

well billups is a free agent. so he could walk. easy. the kings have been trying to move bibby. so maybe we can give bibby and another filler for prince. the tough part would be getting prince. but bibby can help the pistons to the finals too. bibby is great with webber; and with him joining webber and rasheed they could still be dangerous in the east. and they'll still have hamilton

No, you are looking at competing n.e.v.e.r.

Winning, as in winning not being 42-40, takes patience and a plan, like most everything else. Patches do not work. Short term moves do not work.

the mavericks did it. patching may not work for every team, but it has worked for dallas. it has worked for phoenix. they got 1 player that's a power house in the paint (amare) and an ageing steve nash. they're number 2 in the west now.

miami has 1 young superstar that they drafted around 3/4 years ago. they trade good/YOUNG players in odom and butler get a 34 year old shaq and win the freaking nba title????

The Mavericks have a gigantic payroll. That's not going to happen in Sac. I'd say Barbosa ansd Marion are kinda important to the Suns, too.

All this does is emphasize Brick's point -- each of the teams you mention had patience and a plan. And, in the case of Miami and Phoenix especially, a lot of years of suck before getting to the level they're at right now.

no, phoenix have made the playoffs consistantly. they were in the playoffs before they even got amare and nash. they really never lost a step. they just exploded once they landed amare and nash. the heat were in the playoffs giving the pistons a good series before shaq came. the point is that these teams were still pretty decent before they got the superstars they have now. the kings just flat out SUCK at this point. not even playoff bound. 10th worst record in the league.

They didn't get the 9th pick in the draft (Amare) by getting into the playoffs (they went 36-46). Or their other 9th pick (Marion). They got those picks by sucking.

I love how people like to try to compartmentalize the Mavs as if they suddenly appeared 2 years ago. The Mavs may have the MVP this year. His name is Dirk. They (effectively) drafted him by sucking. They've pretty much been in the conversation ever since.If the Cavs trade Hughes and Big Z in a couple of years and become serious contenders with a new lineup aroudn LeBron, the absolute key to the franchise will still have been them sucking enough to draft LeBron, not any maneuvering that went on afterward.

Well we are doing pretty good at sucking late in the season by not only losing to bad teams, but being blown out by those bad teams as well! Hopefully we can keep sucking and get a good draft pick this year.

As scary as Phoenix and Dallas are, I keep wondering how the Mavs would have been if they kept Nash with Dirk and got the defense they added since Nash went to the Suns. At any rate, I really hate how other teams were contenders, then sucked like SA with Robinson being lost for the year and then land their franchise guy for years to come (Duncan).

Sucking isn't always the key. Look at the Bulls, Hawks, and others who have sucked for years! The Bulls really made some stupid moves by trading away Brand, also Artest, well maybe that wasn't so stupid after all..pretty smart actually!!!! ;)

I worked for those teams because they already had superstars to build around. We don't have one. If we had a Dirk or Amare to buld around the strategy would be completely different. Fact is we have a number of mismatched pieces and NO perenial all star.

Completely different situations.

Actually, they got the Marion pick... by trading AWAY Steve Nash!
