I can see Petrie making a trade for a veteran big man, instead of overpaying for Dalembert or the other free agents centers on the market... Al Jefferson was a 20-10 player before a knee injury and has started to regain his form last year, averaging almost 19-10 in 82 games... he has been rumored on the trading block to save Utah money and open up playing time for derrick favors....
The kings could trade Jason Thompson and Fransisco Garcia and cap space for Al Jefferson... the kings would get a scoring and rebounding machine to start along side Cousins.... The Jazz would save about 14.1 million in Salary over 2 years and free up the starting PF spot for Favors, while also getting a serviceable swingman in garcia to replace an aging raja bell...
Jefferson has a big contract at 14mil and 15mil, but would be on the books for only two years... as opposed to Dalembert or Chandler who would want 4-5 years.... and when tyreke and cousins come due for their big contracts in 2-3 years, he will be off the books, if they don't want to resign him....
the kings need to get to the minimum payroll and they want to preserve some flexibility in a couple of years to resign their stud players....
plus jefferson is only 26 years old, so if he does work out, the kings would have their big three of tyreke, cousins, and jefferson....
the Kings line up would look like this:
PF Al Jefferson / Hickson
SF John Salmons / Greene / Honeycutt
C DeMarcus Cousins / Whiteside
SG Marcus Thornton / Fredette
PG Tyreke Evans / Thomas
