Bibby chat at 5 ET on espn.com

Whoa. You might want to take a pill or something. You're the one who posted the comments with the angry red face emoticon. Why the anger?

What you're not understanding is that Mike's agent more than likely made it clear they would only field certain types of questions, so those were the questions asked...

No need to yell or get your blood pressure up.

What you're not understanding is that all it is, is just a difference of opinion. I just simply said I wish they asked better questions.

The only reason i'm upset is your tone. You make it seem like you know absolutely everything and that I don't have the right to tell my opinion.. All your "Mike doesn't do this," "Mike is NOT..." I'm sorry- but that scratched me the wrong way.

You posted an angry looking message, complaining about the questions. All I tried to do is to explain a little about why those were the questions selected. I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way.

I still can't believe that there was one moron who asked Bibby about Pedja's contract situation  . What a waste of time

My favorite referred to the introduction:

He is also on the advisory council for the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA, a network of 1,500 youth basketball leagues around the country that offers support and instructional materials for coaches, kids and parents.

When the guy asked about the Jr. programs, Mike's answer was hilarious IMHO:

Tom Farrey: (5:12 PM ET ) What is the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA and what are its goals?

Mike Bibby: (5:13 PM ET ) It's been a while since I did anything with them. I just did a little work on the West Coast, talking to kids, stuff like that.

;)

I asked a bunch of questions... really good basketball questions that would be easy for Mike Bibby to respond to. I wonder who picked which questions for Mike to answer. Also, it seems that this interview was for the benefit of youth basketball, not the Kings.

Agree with NoBonus, this interview was more about Youth BB than about Bibby or the Kings. Not real great questions and it was all over in a couple of minutes. Boo.

I do not hink that he did a bad job. The questions were awful, but he answers were what I expected from him. I do like that he did not comment on Peja's contract. That was the BEST way to handle it. I also liked his answers about our starting line-up and his favorite guard.

Yeah, and he would have answered you why? Geez...

It's a mindless afternoon chat show. Not 60 minutes.
What's wrong with stating that the questions were weak? Seemed to be more about his personal life than his basketball. No reason to get all worked up over it, seems like others here wanted some better questions as well.

I'm not all worked up in any way, shape or form...

The only thing I was commenting on was how angry one person got over the whole thing. It was afternoon pablum...on ESPN.

The whole point of contention appears to be that some people actually expected hard-hitting questions and informative answers. My puzzlement was over that expectation primarily.

Yes, the questions were weak. You said you would have "put it to him." Well, that wasn't going to happen because I'm willing to bet there was an agreement about what types of questions would be answered and what wouldn't...

So rather than be upset with me for pointing out the obvious, why not just accept that your expectations for anything other than a bit of ear fluff were probably way too high?

;)

Phil, Sacramento: Hi there Mike! How do you feel about the moves made this offseason, especially being reunited with Shareef? Also, do you think Bonzi can come in and play Kings (team) ball?

Mike Bibby: (5:16 PM ET ) I think so. It wears off, once you come in here -- the passing. Everyone passes here. You always miss the guys who get traded, but that's an opportunity to make new friends, too. I think Shareef will be all right.
so he's positive about Shareef, interesting what he thinks of Bonzi.

so was that done live with him talking and this was a transcript, or was it an online chat that he typed? If so, he either types very neartly, or he was talking and had someone do it for him

Look at the transcript again. ;)

Adam, New York: How much influence has your dad had on your game?

Mike Bibby: (5:09 PM ET ) Growing up, being around basketball all the time, I just wanted to be like your dad. I guess it was just in my blood. That's how I figured out what I wanted to do with my life.

The question is "How much influence has [your dad] had on your game?"

The answer? "...I just wanted to be like [your dad]."

I know it's probably just a typo, but it struck me as the ultimate fill-in-the-blank response.

;)

I guess I was just expecting more on the upcoming season, oh well.

Standard player interview session. Nothing really said and nothing really learned.

I think MB was impressive he actually strung a few sentences together. Thts saying alot for him. He's never been one to ive long answers.

No, if you look, the question was about Bibby's dad, but he replied like he was talking about the dad of the guy asking the question.

I think that those that are or were expecting a bit more "meat" instead of "filler" in the line of questioning for this interview missed the general point of the interview.

Just look at the introduction:
Bibby is the on-court leader of the Sacramento Kings, the hometown team of the Basketballtown Pharaohs, the 8-and-under youth basketball team featured in the latest installment of the Growing Up NEXT series.

One of the top guards in the NBA, Bibby averaged 6.8 assists and a career-high 19.6 points last season. Each summer he holds a Mike Bibby Basketball Academy for kids in his hometown of Phoenix. He is also on the advisory council for the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA, a network of 1,500 youth basketball leagues around the country that offers support and instructional materials for coaches, kids and parents.

It really had nothing to do with Mike on terms of himself, the player. More about youth basketball than anything. Most of the questions are on-topic, the rest because obviously he plays for the Kings and that's gonna happen. We all want to know about Mike's defensive issues and leadership skills but in this case, it's not really relevant to the topic.

steps down off of soapbox now

Precisely.
