Benos performance Slovenian national team 2009

I think the point is that Rubio, who would have taken Udrih's job had he been drafted, simply didn't run circles around Beno and put up stats that would have made it clear he was the much superior talent.

Point taken.:)

I`ve seen many matches from both of them I can stand behind my words here: Rubio at this moment is not better than Beno! Maybe one day he will be as he is still teenager, but if anybody thinks that Kings would get extra class player with Rubio and and he would make difference in winning and losing bracket is clearly wrong!
Right now he is a very good player with a lot of talent and a lot of experience for his age!

If I can forget one teenaged guard's 21:21 A/TO performance in the LV Summer League, I'm sure that I can forget another's merely decent play in one game of the European championship series.

You're muddying the waters. We had the perfect opportunity to watch Rubio v. Udrih. The point guard many wanted for the Kings versus the point guard we've had for the Kings. I found it somewhat interesting that Rubio didn't run circles around Beno. If you didn't, no problem but my observation still stands.

:)

I didnt get to see this game. Has anyone else noticed Rubio doesnt have any kind of a jumpshot. No pull up jumpshot. No Jumper with his feet set.Nothing. Im not terribly impressed with anyone that cant carve up Beno's defense.

Pau Gasol has said that Rubio has no jumper, but can be a 10-assist guy. I think that's pretty near to what consensus on him is. Jump shooting is relatively easy to learn, but nobody's expecting much scoring out of him at this stage.

I didn't get to see the game either, but note that they couldn't have been playing against each other the whole time, if only because Rubio had more steals than Beno had TOs. If anyone who watched it could enlighten us as to who was actually playing against who most of the time, that would be great.

Edit: You can find a bit of the game here, looks like Rubio was playing against Lakovic, Udrih, and Slovenia's various other guards at different times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7eo4sETkIg

Beno did not mach up with Rubbio on the game. He mostly guarded Navarro and did it quite well (not spectacular).

I am a big Beno fan from his early age. As Slovenian I am biased as well. But I can attest that Rubio is a better player even now at18 than Beno is at 26. And I do consider Beno a good player.

Beno off course is more savvy player. When he is good he can take Kobe on the ground with a spin move and score ;). And yes, he can pull up for a jumper better as well.

But Rubio is better. And will get much better. And he makes his teammates a whole lot better. And he will make his teammates champs. And he can shoot. His foot work is awesome and he can pull his jumper. But he doesn't have to as he sets his teammates up. And his rhythm is just amazing. From slow to quick movement in transit, he is hard to quard. In this way he reminds me to Dean Bodiroga (another unathletic and less skilled player who was killing nba cream).

Comparing international, friendly games stats is ridiculous. Chris Paul had marginally better numbers than ours Jaka Lakovic in the world championship in 2006. Do you want to sign Jaka based on that?

You have to remember that Rubio plays for a strong team where efficiency is distributed quite equally between players. Similar to USA b ball team.

just my 5 cents

You mean Dejan Bodiroga, right? The Kings held onto his NBA rights for years.

Slovenian coach announced his final selection of players for the European championship and Beno is on it.
On the other hand, he didn't pick Vujacic and that caused massive indignation in Slovenia.

It is not final selection as coach has still 2 players to cut for the championship.
by the way: Rubio signed today for barcelona for 2 years and they payed 3,7 m euros just for transfer (not for the player`s salary)!

In 20 minutes at 21.00 CET Beno will be on national radio for the interview!
i will try to post some answers later...

We've got a thread going about Rubio in another forum, so if people want to continue discussing that they should check it out here.

Upcoming games... today (in two hours) against Bolgaria and Sunday against Greece.

Will keep you posted.

I'm now super glad Kings took Tyreke. I and some others see that the traditional PG role of 10 ast.+ and just ball distribution may not be the best offensive scenario for the Kings and their talent pool. A pull up jumper is essential in NBA, just watch Nash, Parker, Kidd, etc. As it was stated by one of the Kings execs, they never intended to draft Rubio with the first pick.

Beno and Rodriquez will battle for backup time. But in the very beginning we could see Beno starting as that is not as important as results from who ever gets the key minutes. It will take time for Tyreke to get into the NBA mode and get used to the vastly different style of play.

If Beno can provide energy/scoring off the bench, that's all anyone can ask for...he's not a STARTING PG in this league, he just doesnt have that kind of talent to match up, but he can be an incredible cog off our bench, and that would only add more depth if he works out for is in that way. I never was on the 'trash Beno, he sucks' bandwagon, because he is what he is: a scorer that can play a key role on our team.

Beno's stats against team Bolgaria.

B. Udrih 23:07 8pts (3/6 for two, 2/2 FT) 1rb 3as 1to 0st

He was one of the few in Slovenian team who played OK. In his 23 minutes the point differential was around +20 for Slovenian team (but Slo won by just 3 at the end). Had few incredible penetrations (ended by layups, passes or fouls).

The Slovenian coach praised his game at the end. It seems that Beno is highly motivated and works hard. Sasha Vujacic aka. the Machine, who was cut from the team a couple of days ago said that the preparations were to hard.

I will update you tomorrow when we play Greece team.

Slovenia played vs germany today and won 70-53! Beno played really great 2/2 for 2 and 1/2 for 3, 2 assists in 9:25 ) but he got injured! I hope nothing is serious! He didn`t play after it...

You guys keep surprising me with this anti Beno comments. Give the guy enough credit to find out what have really happened before leaving smart *** comments.

He got hit directly in his left knee, it looked ugly. I hope there is nothing serious and so should you. He is after all (like it or not) one of the top guys you have.
