Benos performance Slovenian national team 2009

Best. Comeback. Ever.

I would like to see you guys making a comment (or a comeback) in foreign language before judging others.

In One B defense... we are passionate nation and we live and breathe with our team. The potential Beno injury would really hurt us. And so would it hurt the Kings.

Hey I like Beno! I don't like the way he under performed last season for the Kings. I am hoping the coaching change and the team being more talented (and experienced) will allow Beno to be more successful.

I don't see the addition of Tyreke and Sergio affecting Beno in a negative way. Those two should take some of the pressure off of Beno. Defenses won't key in on Beno as much. Beno can just do the things he can do and not try to do too much.

Beno Udrih is facing up to three weeks on the sidelines after damaging his left knee ligament. The Sacramento Kings guard limped out of Slovenian 70-53 win against Germany at Bonn on Tuesday. He has since been sent to a specialist to determine the extent of the injury.
Beno Udrih will miss the 2009 European Championship and coach Jurij Zdovc have called up Jaka Klobucar (198-G-87) of Union Olimpija to replace two-time NBA Champion

Obviously you never want a player to get injured, but ..

If he is out for 3 plus weeks he should miss at least parts of camp and some of the pre season. How wonderful will it be to watch Evans and Sergio play point this year!

You guys keep surprising me with this anti Beno comments. Give the guy enough credit to find out what have really happened before leaving smart *** comments.

He got hit directly in his left knee, it looked ugly. I hope there is nothing serious and so should you. He is after all (like it or not) one of the top guys you have.

I beg to differ there. At this point, there are 5 players on the team better than Beno (Thompson, Hawes, Martin, Garcia, Nocioni) not to mention a rookie who is going to relegate Beno to garbage time duty(Evans). So while we jest and joke about him being Charmin soft, nobody wants someone to get injured (except maybe Kobe). But its ironic when it happens because Beno is so darn injury prone. Just ask Popovich.

Thompson, Garcia and Hawes are better only in your strange imagination and Martin is one of the most overrated player in NBA. Last time he played some defense was in his primary school.

Thompson/Garcia/Hawes had better ppg production and fg%. Granted Beno got more dimes and the others got more rebounds but for a rookie and a second year player you would think Beno could at least keep up with their production. So now, even in YOUR strange imagination where people disagree with you and that makes them wrong, Beno is not top 5 on this team by any knowledgeable basketball fans point of view. And seeing as how he RUNS the team, he obviously ran them right into LAST place. Glad we have that Beno guy, he sure does earn his paycheck. It is ridiculous how many players get less money and perform WAY better. Beno = bench fodder.

We have 8 players returning from last year. Of these 8, Beno was 6th in PER last year, ahead of only KT and Greene. He was also 6th in Win Shares per Minute, ahead of Greene and Hawes (whom Offensive Win Shares hated last year) but behind KT. In fact, in WS/min, Beno was 14th among all players that played for the Kings last year, behind such luminaries as Calvin Booth, Kenny Thomas, Mikki Moore, and Will Solomon.

I'm not saying these stats are perfect, but they give us a decent idea that Beno was not a very valuable player last year grounded in something more objective than our "strange imaginations".

I'm going to step in here BEFORE it starts getting stupid...

To gvucko and One B - we understand your loyalty to your countryman. The piont is, however, that this board is dedicated to the Sacramento Kings over and above any one player... Most of us look at things in regards to the name on the front of the jersey more than the name on the back.

To all those sniping at gvucko and One B - It's not necessary to turn this into some kind of us vs. them debate. Things got really stupid for a while when Peja was on the team and we, the moderators, are going to make sure that doesn't happen again. You can argue about a player's game without resorting to insults against some of the fans who support him. Keep the snipes and insults out of the equation and things will be fine.

Just freshen up the atmosphere, I'd like to share what NBA.com considered Kings top 10 plays of last season: http://www.nba.com/video/channels/top_plays/2009/08/31/nba_090831_kings_top10.nba/

I think 3-4 of those plays features Beno with his penetrate-and drop and penetrate-and-pass plays, which are a few of the skills he can clearly excel in the NBA. With comparisons to a few of our previous PGs, I think Beno is the best in penetrating the lane. Being lefty may have added some advantages.

If I were to side with Beno, I would say that he might have also been a victim of the coaching staff changes. PGs, being the floor general, normally gets to do a lot a adjustments when new coaches and new systems are introduced. Deron Williams (an exaggerated comparison) did not immediately do all-star performances on his first year under Sloan's system. And Natt was a Sloan guy, so maybe just maybe, the adjustments may have been tough on Beno.

And NBA players seldom do better than the previous season on their first years of a long contract. See Rashard Lewis, Arenas, and more. So maybe and again just maybe...we can give Beno sometime to recover. We're not yet contending anyway. :-)

By the way, I am actually disappointed with Beno this season, just want to share a few things we can think to look on the bright side of life. :D
