Bee writer (from LA) rubs salt in wounds...

Warning. Don't bother reading this if you're sick and tired of the Bee finding new and different ways to exhort the Lakers, insult the Kings and their fans, etc.

Lakers feeling at home at Arco
by Jason Jones

OAKLAND – The Lakers aren't supposed to be revered in Sacramento.

They're not supposed to be loved at Arco Arena – not when their coach, Phil Jackson, mocked Kings fans as being "semi-civilized" or "maybe redneck" nearly 10 years ago.

But the Lakers have made themselves at home in Northern California.

Tonight's game against the Lakers marks the third sellout of the season for the Kings. The other sellouts were the home opener against Memphis and the Lakers' first visit in late December.

Cowbells no longer ring in the Lakers' ears. And based on the warm ovation they receive during pregame introductions, the Lakers might think they're at Staples Center if they closed their eyes.

There's more but I quit when I started throwing up in my mouth.

On a personal note, I met Jason Jones at a pre-draft workout this past June. He was pretty smug about LA, the Lakers, the superior quality of Laker fans (yeah, I know...) and pretty much everything else related to the city of Angels.

NOTE: I would have posted this earlier, but since I dropped my subscription of the Bee some time ago, I didn't even know about this story until it was brought to my attention.

Not so bad , atleast the ending gave me some hope

Even if it meant the clanging of cowbells.

Bryant wouldn't mind hearing a reminder of the many tough playoff games he had at Arco in past years.

"I'm looking forward to hearing a cowbell or two," he said. "Last time we were there, it seemed like it was coming back. Tyreke Evans and that young crew they've got up there is kind of re-energizing the city of Sacramento. So hopefully, we'll hear some."

I've got plenty of hope for our team and NONE of it comes from anything I've read in the Sacramento Bee, and ESPECIALLY not anything with a Jason Jones byline. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm actually going to miss Sam Amick.

who is this Jason Jones and where can I track him down to teach him some manners??

Okay, that's not gonna fly. Jason Jones is the beat writer covering the Kings for the Sacramento Bee. It's acceptable to criticize him for his writing, for his obvious Laker bias, etc. It's NOT ACCEPTABLE to make veiled threats, even in jest. (And for the record? I've met Jason; I'd think twice before making silly "teach him some manners" comments.)

Now given that we are all here posting an hour or two before the game, I'm not entirely sure how much right we have to complain. Don't like Lakers fans in oour building, then get the hell out there ourselves. (Obviously not me, but I dropped the tickets after the Muss year and have yet to get some more).

Not exactly fair, Brickie. Some of us simply cannot attend every game due to circumstances of life over which we really have very little control.

I tried looking for tickets, they were gone, and stub hub had some way overpriced cheap seats, I hope its not Kings fans trying rip people off.

I know a number of Laker fans who order their tickets as soon as the schedule comes out. I don't blame Kings fans for not doing that this year, as until recently we really didn't know if we'd have anything to root for.

As far as Stub Hub, etc. go, a lot of those tickets are bought up in bulk and then held for resale. Online it's legal; outside the arena it's scalping. go figure.

Kinda hard for some of us. ;)

Meh. Fairly innocuous, really.

Be nice if he didn't sound so giddy about it, I suppose, but it is what it is. If Lakers fans are outnumbering Kings fans in Arco these days (certainly was trending that way back when I frequently attended games, but I don't know how bad it is since I haven't been able to watch games at all for the past couple of years), I would think it somewhat disingenuous to report otherwise.

1. It's not the Bees job to hype the team. In fact, before the Maloof fallout with the arena, they were a bit too friendly with the team.

2. Bandwagon Laker fans should be profiled coming into the arena. When the Kings get better they should be kept out of games when they try changing jerseys. Grew up around bandwagon bulls fans that changed jerseys to home pride and ended up the new face of the Kings fan base. Pretty sad.

Somehow I got it into my head you were based out of the East Coast somewhere.

I remember those days well. A chorus of 10000 people mispronouncing Pedja's last name.

Honestly, why don't we start a petition here to get Jason Jones fired.

If he is a Laker fan like VF says, he really shouldn't be writing for the Bee about the Kings. Nothing personal, but he should go find a job writing about the lakers or any other team. Not for the Kings and use the opportunity to belittle the Kings.

I posted this in the game thread before I saw this thread... so this is a repeat post but in the more appropriate thread.

Anyone watch Westpaul's postgame interview? I think it was Jason "I'm a Lakers fans" Jones who fired off the first question.

Jones: Can you comment on Ron Artest playing Tyreke?
Westpaul: I'm not sure what exactly you want me to comment on.
Jones: with regards Artest's defense on Tyreke. He didn't stop Tyreke but was definitely able to contain him.
Westpaul: Well, Tyreke missed a few layups that he normally would have made. Let me see, Tyreke has 24 pts, 11 rebs, and 9 assists this game. If that's what you call containing Tyreke, we'll take that every night. (flashes a "period" look at Jones)

The Bee needs to find another beat writer...

I am, hence the "obviously not me" part.

But I did maintain season tickets for 7-8 years there for the family + friends back in Sacto. Gave them up when the front office finally pissed me off to the point that I decided the only way to express the discontnet was to pull the money. Now am not sure there are enough of my peeps still interested back in Sac to bother hopping back in, even with things turning. So I am both immune from criticism for not filing the arena personally, and part of the problem at the same time.

Been once this year but it's been a tough year for us. I'm trying to not read too much into this but the other day my gf asked me which team I would want season tickets for (Kings or Warriors) I said Kings.

It was an odd moment, and I'm thinking there might be something behind it. ;)

If that writer continues to show his purple and gold panties then I'm sure there will be some sort of backlash. If Sacramento is actually cheering the Lakers though then I don't know what to say.

Paul Westphal shut Jason Jones down:D

For the record I can't stand Jason Jones and I think he should be fired. I think the guy is taking the opportunity to belittle our team and pimp his own team every chance he gets and it makes me mad. I don't like the bee anymore, only blog I'll probably read now is the one by Matt Barrows for the 49ers blog. Jones can GTFO as far as I'm concerned.

Wasn't Jason Jones the sports writer who came out and said he was a Lakers fan pretty much as soon as he came onto the Bee? If that is the same guy, he is the *the reason* why I no longer get the Bee.

if we start a petition can we ruin this guy's lif...i mean, get him fired?

Effin Bandwagoners.

I watched the game (one of the few I've been able to catch, as I live in Lakers territory), and that was sad.

Oh well....I'll just talk **** even louder in Lakers bars during the post season as they get blown out by the Mavs (or Nuggets).
