PHOENIX – Before the Kings would take the long walk out to the US Airways Center floor, coach Reggie Theus was discussing his starting lineup inside the locker room.

Point guard Beno Udrih, Theus informed reporters, would be out with a sore right quadriceps and replaced by Francisco García. And the small forward spot held by Ron Artest, who scored 33 points against Phoenix on Tuesday but would miss the rematch to tend to his family, would go to ...
"Eddie Johnson!" Theus hollered.

Classic Theus

LOL. Classic Theus. This kind of quality humor is a Theus trademark and it was evident to me when I conversed with him in Confetti 25 years ago. I'm glad to see it (his sense of humor) still active. All the world's a stage and he's one of the more-talented players amongst players.

I'm really glad to have him here and hope that he'd be successful and stay here indefinitely.

Hey Mozart, I too knew Reg quite well 25 years ago (at Confetti and elsewhere) and kept in touch to this day - although less. His subtle humor, real toughness, and great communication skills are things that mostly only his friends see all the time. Along with his tremendous drive and determination I'm confident and I know he is that the future is bright for the Sacramento Kings - but it will take a bit of time.

I also liked during last game when one of the reserve Phoenix players made a play on defense that was a questionable call against the Kings and he yelled out to the ref, "He's not that good!! Maybe in D-league!!:D

Cool that you...

...kept in touch with Reggie, Purplehaze.

And you managed to stay in touch with him over the years?--very cool. I would have liked to have remained in touch with him, but, no doubt did thousands of others.

I can only imagine the kind of life that Reggie lives with the kind of intelligent charisma that he has. A nice life, if ya ask me, and I'm happy for Reggie, as well as the rest of us here.

Funny, that. (the Reggie joke quoted above.) I was watching Reggie on tv last night and read his lips from the side and saw him saying "Never seen that call before in my life!...Never seen that call before!..." to some King player as the Kings were transitioning to defense after a ref blew a whistle on, um, can't remember, but it may have been a driving Salmons in the second quarter, whose drive to the basket was negated by a weird personal foul call of some kind. Not necessarily a funny moment, but an interesting one just the same.

Because I had spoken with him before in challenging situations (dark, noisy club atmosphere that is very hard when one is severely hearing-impaired like I am with just one hearing aid with the other ear being totally useless), I had gotten used to reading his lips, so reading his lips when the tv camera focuses on him is rather easy for me.

And it doesn't hurt that he is so good to look at (no, I'm not gay, not that being gay is anything wrong, mind you) when one has to look at someone as frequently as the student (the players) have to pay attention to the teacher (the coach).

In a very interesting study posted on the internet a few years ago, the study found out that beauty of people's faces have more of a common grounds world-wide, regardless of culture, regardless of location. The vast majority of people worldwide prefer to look at a more beautiful face (and body) than to look at a face that is not considered to be as beautiful.

The common denominators, as I recall, in the aspects of perceived beauty with the photos of a beautiful face and a less-attractive face were, symmetricallity, balance, clarity of features, proportion and so on, regardless of sex. I lost that link...anyone have it?

Reggie Theus and me at private X-mas party I hosted in Sac, 1986. He was 29 at the time and I was a couple years older. Well, at least we both eventually got rid of our Tom Selleck mustaches I guess we thought were popular with the ladies back then!

Not to post to many private details between friends, but I did chime in here around the time Reg was hired as Kings head coach about some of my personal experiences with him that remain 'cool' memories. Oh, to be young, single, tall (we're both 6'5-6'6 in stocking feet) and at the top of our respective games back in the day.
