Bee: Artest not happy with role last night

?????????????

He was out on the court, shooting, and couldn't move well. He told Musselman he wouldn't be able to play and changed into street clothes.

Good grief, some of you people are reading WAAAAAAAAAAY TOO MUCH into things. Sometimes a bad back is ... a bad back.

unless You are Pedja:p

I read this on another board but didn't hear it myself on the radio so maybe its wrong:
I was listening to Sports 1140 ( one of the SacTown radio stations ) and it sounded like he may have been benched by Musselman for missing practice.

But, if he didn't start one game and couldn't play the next because of the bad back, I'm still uneasy about him taking the coach to the media and sounding just like the indiana days.

On the other hand this team probably isn't going all the way and. Ah wait I think the knicks already traded their pick, nm.

I won't pretend to have all the answers. I guess I just want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think it's the least we can do until/unless we hear something to indicate otherwise.

It just seems that ever since Webber was indicted by the grand jury, there has been a tendency for Kings fans to over-react to every single little thing that happens. Almost like they're constanting waiting for the millipede to drop yet another shoe...

Let it go in one ear and out the other! Its ron... He says dumb stuff every other week or so.

We were warned by Pacer fans that he says things like this.

The above quote from "another" board is a bit wrong. I heard what they said on KHTK. Ron wasn't at the shootaround before that game, because he was getting treatment for his back. Muss started the players who were able to participate in shoot-around. It did not sound like a "punsihment" at all, or a problem with Ron. Just sounded like Muss felt he needed to start the guys who knew the game plan best.

Now you can argue with that philosophy and maybe Ron wasn't happy with it, I don't know. But don't over blow it at this point.

We were also warned by Pacer fans that he would destroy our team.

--The bottom line is we need to win or Ron won't be happy.
When Rons unhappy bad things tend to happen around him.
It's still way to early to worry too much about it though.

Well, either we ignore Ron and hope that this is just a moment of frustration that will go away, or we feed him the ball more and more and hope that he develops some offensive efficiency. I wish I could be more positive, but given Ron's past history, neither option looks good to me right now. :(

However, there is one way out: I do think the best way to go at this point is to keep playing team basketball and just try to win games. If we win, I do think Ron will be happy. If we don't, well, Ron might blow up, but then he's a free agent at the end of the season, and we can rebuild then. If Ron keeps forcing things and we lose games, I don't think he'll be happy anyway. So yeah, the bottom line is, do whatever we have to win as many games as possible, and if it means Ron having a reduced role in the offense, then so be it. If Ron wants that dominant role in the offense, then he'll just have to prove that he can make it worthwhile for the Kings to give him that role. We can do this because we're not yet married to Ron over the long haul.

No he isn't. Not for 2 seasons.

Ron has a player option at season end.

If he takes it, and they work out an extention, he only makes a 10% increase in pay every season from his 6 million dollar current salary.

If he waits until he's unrestricted, he'll make a lot more money from the Kings or somebody else.

Are you sure this is right? I thought he had a player option after next season, but he would be eligible to sign an extension in the offseason that would kick in year after next.

According to Patricia Bender's site Ron signed a 6 year deal in 2002 with a player option in the last year of the deal. According to the CBA, a player is eligible to sign an extenion after the fourth year of that deal (i.e. this offseason). But the extension is limited to 110.5% of the last year of the contract. Can't see that happening.

If Ron waits until the end of next season he'll be able to opt out of his deal and will get a max or near-max deal. Unless he really, really wants to stay with the Kings and doesn't care about getting a lot of money he can sign an extension, it's all pretty much moot until next season.

Whoops. My fault. I looked at the wrong number. He can sign an exten this offsesaon, but his option is for next season to continue into the 08-09 season.

And BMiller...stay away from Hoopshypes salaries and contracts. They're alllll jacked up. lol

Hmm, you're right, Ron and the Kings are stuck with each other for at least 2 more seasons. Well, unless we want to deal with what the Pacers had to deal with last season...we better make sure this thing works out somehow.

I still think though that winning will cure everything, and that Ron will be pissed off no matter what if we're losing, so we should just do whatever we can to ensure we win as much as possible, and then worry about Ron's feelings later.

BTW did anyone else hear Jim Greys report during the game last night about Artest and the Kings.

The Maloofs told him they want to extend Ron before the start of next season. Ron says he wants to stay but Grey said if he signs an extension it can only be for 10% more than he makes now so it probably won't happen.

I'll bump this up a bit ^^^^^^^

The Maloofs want to be "stuck" with Artest as long as possible as soon as possible.

And as cheaply as possible. ;)

Obviously getting him extended at his current level + 10% would be brilliant...for us. But highly unlikely for Ron. Which unfortunately means we'll have to wait until...whatever that deadline is before you can extend a guy at max type numebrs, and then decide if we're going to do that. In fact right now I could easily see two agents approaching the Kings next summer looking for max type money (Ron + Kevin) and I have good arguments why neither really deserves it. But unless one of them screws up, gets hurt, etc., probably $20-25mil between them minimum. So yeah -- I'd be trying to extend them too.

Ron at a 10% increase would give him a contract ranging from roughly 9-13million over 5 years, right? That's actually about right for him - I can't see any team with cap room giving him the max, but who knows.
