Question: It wouldn't be $14 million, would it? For this season wouldn't they be paying less than half the $7 million in salary (approx 40%) as there is more than half the season gone?I really doubt Phoenix would be willing to take on the extra salary. $7 million becomes $14 million when they're paying the luxury tax.

Denver forward Carmelo Anthony has publicly lobbied for Artest. Asked if he would be upset if the Nuggets didn't make a move, Anthony said, "I don't want to give an answer on that."

woooo, come on Carmelo do some pressuring and help us out.
That's from a couple days ago. Still, Artest for Najera, Kleiza and a 1st rounder would be a great deal. I find it hard to believe they're willing to include that pick because if that was an offer, I think Geoff would have it done by now. But, you never know...
different media outlets point out that atlanta got the better end of the deal, but that's only because they are not really interested in analyzing what sacramento needs for the future.
expirings + young players + picks = just what the doctor ordered.
Artest for Najera, Kleiza and a pick would mean having to waive another player, and we have already waived everyone that was cheap. Someone like Wright is a great candidate for waiving, but I don't think he's officially ours yet (physical, NBA seal of approval), and we can't waive him until we have him. So give it another couple of days.
The tax is based on team payroll on the last day of the regular season. So Phoenix's tax payment wouldn't be pro-rated (just as, as a hypothetical example, if we were in tax territory and traded away Artest to get under the tax level we wouldn't have to pay any tax even though we would have been over the tax for much of the season).

This trade could be awesome if it goes down. We really don't need another SF, even if we do trade Artest, since Garcia and Salmons can fill the role. However, Kleiza has had some excellent games, namely against us. We can showcase him for the rest of the year and he can possibly become another trade-able asset.
Plus, another pick would be awesome. Something tells me we might have to include Atlanta's second rounder to get Denver's first, but i'd still do it.
We don't need Mike Miller either.
The sucky part about the Miller situation is thta his availability is directly competing wiht our efforts to shed Ron, and we may not be able to move Ron until right at the deadline, if then, as teams jockey for both guys, and maybe hope to land the sane one.

I still think the hardest part of any trade is trying to unload KT as part of any deal.
I seriously hope that we have given up on that as a condition.
I think the only ones still trying to find a way to package KT are desperate fans. There's no buzz right now with his name in it anywhere but on Kings boards that I can find...
