Arenas tomorrow

G-League
Arenas is being featured on Ahmad Rashad's All Access right now. He keeps talking about how everyone has underestimated him throughout his career and he uses that to motivate him. He was talking about how dissapointed he was when he slipped to the 2nd round of the draft, and he had a vendetta against the teams that passed him.

He said that the Kings promised him that if he was available at #25, they would pick him. In his words, they told him "there's no was I would get past them at 25," but instead we took Gerald Wallace.

Im not going to pull my hair out or anything since the draft so hard to predict, but the Kings are playing the Wiz tomorrow, which makes me wonder if he is a little more motivated against us.

whats the deal with caron butler's knee? it looked like it was a pretty bad sprain last night

what would we have done with arenas on our team? as great as he is, he wouldnt be starting....

Caron Butler---High ankle sprain.

Gilbert Arenas---As uneducated as I am about college basketball, I wanted the Kings to take Gil back in the day...I remember that I told my uncle (Warriors fan) that he got a good player...IT was just a strange hunch.

Well, that's interesting for sure. Regardless, I still think we have a good chance to win the game. Hopefully Mike has a good game with Antonio Daniels on him sometimes or more during the game.

i dont care if he's motivated or not. this is just another great chance for the kings to prove themselves.

He absolutely destroyed Mike Bibby the last time in Washington. It was scary. The defensive intensity has certainly stepped up since then, but Arenas is one of those guys who plays on another level when he has something to prove. I have to admit that I'm a little bit scared of him.

The Kings were looking at him as a SG, which he is, and at some point told him they were high on him. I'm assuming the size issue came up and that's why they backed off. That's sort of confirmed by Arenas statements, just not in those words. Arena's has said they told him the reason they backed off was because they questioned whether he could shoot, yet chose Wallace, and in Arenas' words: "A monkey could shoot better".

It might not have looked like it at the time, but we really did Arenas’ a favor. The most likely spot for him on our team back then would’ve been at his natural spot of SG behind Christie (he’s not a PG, and we already had Bibby and Jackson there). He wouldn’t have had the opportunity to play and handle the ball like he did in GS. The on-the-ball and slashing play is where he made a name for himself. That would’ve never happened here.

If he still holds a grudge, he needs to re-evaluate how he wants to come at us. Beating us just means helping us acquire a higher draft pick. I suggest he pull one of those stunts he has in the past where he doesn’t shoot at all if he wants to pee us off.

If I recall, Mobley was the one guarding him, and Mobely was the one who drew a foul on him and won the game. Bibby wasn't destroyed.

Bibby: 42mins 13-23 38pts 6reb 7assits 4steals 5to
Arenas: 47mins 16-32 43pts 7reb 3assits 2steals 3to

???? Unless I'm missing something in the link above. Arenas had 43 points, 3 assists and Bibby had 38 points and 7 assists. Who destroyed who? Seemens like they both had monster games and couldn't stop the other. Bibby's game looks more balanced with the assists, tho.

EDIT: Thanks Packt. I forgot it might have been Mobley on Arenas.

You have got to be kidding

what are you talking about? of course he wouldn't start. he isn't a better player than mike bibby, he is just a better scorer. hes the best player on a mediocre team.

His output against the Kings has been nice - 22, 27, 27, and 43 in the last 4 meetings. Expect him to play well, but he alone won't be enough.

I agree with that evaluation. He also got injured a lot in college, and it was debatable how hard he tried to play through nagging injuries. Tough question to have about a small OG w/ a mediocre jump shot.

He was getting to the basket at will and getting wide open jumpshots whenever he wanted that night and he did do it to Bibby for the most part and when he wasn't doing it, Steve Blake was. You should've seen how many people on here were complaining about Bibby's perimeter defense after that game. And yes, when your man gets 43 points on 50% shooting and hits 7 threes, you got destroyed/torched/whatever else you could call it. Bibby's looks more balanced because he was playing with the more balanced team. The boxscore hardly ever tells the whole story anyway, but look at the numbers for the other Wizards and tell me why the Wizards were even close in a game where the Kings shot 49%, had 26 assists, only 13 turnovers and were just -1 in the rebounding column.
I guess it'd help if you'd seen the game, or could remember seeing the game.

The Kings were lucky to come out with a win in that one. The Wizards had the lead late, but basically dropped a rebound into Brad Millers lap for him to get a huge putback. Then Mobley got a nice call on a postup that wasn't exactly the best shot opportunity.

I didn't say Arenas didn't scorch us. But they got scorched by Bibby too. Neither defended the other's PGS very well.

Being a HUGE UofA fan all my life (I also attend the college). Arenas has become such a better player than Bibby. Arenas is a better leader as well as player. He would have definately started, and I'm really sad now knowing that the Kings passed on him knowing they would taken him.
