Are We Ready for Dallas?

Unless Houston overtakes the Kings, it's looking more like a SAC/DALLAS first round.

These series have been high-scoring dogfights in the past. Both teams have had dramatic roster changes.

How do you view this potential matchup?

This thursday shouldn't be much of an indicator.

We have no Miller, Jackson, prob. Songaila, maybe Skinner, etc.

And Dallas has no Dampier who is the only defensive guy they have.

These teams shoudln't look like this come playoff time.
 
Actualy most of those guys will NOT be back utill late in the first round or possibley even a second round... what ya got is what ya got.
 
If this is the first round matchup then I have no problem with it. I feel confident that we can win in maybe 5-6 but most likely 6 games. They havent been good at home this year, and we havent been the best on the road or at home either. This will be a dogfight but as you rememmber from last year, Dirk is unstoppable. If we have any chance to win the series then Skinner, Thomas, and Williamson are going to have to rebound rebound rebound on both sides as well as dish the ball out a little and try to score when they rebound on the offensive end. Bibby will most likely be clutch and play well, but Peja and Songaila (if Brad and Bobby arent back) are going to have to step it up completely. No last year choke for Peja and we will be set for a good series.

Dirk may not be as unstoppable as you think. At small forward the Mavs usually like to play Howard alot and he mostly likes to play near the basket. If that is the case we can put Kenny Thomas on him and we should be alright. That in turn allows Pedja to gaurd Dirk and he has been just about the only Dirk stopper in this league. Pedja has that unique combination of being tall enough to gaurd Dirk and bother his shot and he is also quicker then him which takes aways Dirks dribble drive game against taller, slower opponents. We should be okay against Dallas if we are at full strength.
 
Peja has played good D on Dirk even when his shot was off - not sure how effective we'll be on Thursday as we are still getting all the guys "on the same page" with all the newcomers. Even so, I think when the PO roll around and they've had another month of games and practice we'll be a much more cohesive unit.

Thursday is a huge game. It will likely forecast the Kings hopes for playoff success. If Corlis Williamson and Peja Stojakovic play great games, I think the Kings will win. I am confident that others will do their parts.
 
I'm actually curious to see how Kenny Thomas plays against Dirk. I know Peja's been lauded around here for having one of the better defensive performances against Drirk of late, but I think Kenny's quicker than anyone we've had at the 4 in a while and should be able to do a good job of at least keeping up with him on the perimeter.

Might be a good match with quickness, but the question would be does he have the height to actually contest Dirk's shot?
 
I'm pretty sure we're not ready for Dallas yet. But right after Mike finishes up some errands at Safeway and Cuttino mows his lawn I think we'll be set...

I was thinking this the other day...the first 3 times we've played them this year we rolled with them for the most part...but eventually came up short...and they are usually very high scoring game...now we are by no means a defensive threat but i really want to see what kind of "difference" (especially defensively) our 3 new guys can make against this team

i can't wait for the game tomorrow..hopefully tonight the Warriors can run them down a bit and make them want to pull their hair out like they did with us

I think the new guys will raise hell with Dallas. Skinner will probably stop some of their runs to the basket. Thomas and Williamson may wear them out on defense. I feel pretty good about the Kings chances.
 
I personally can't stand the mavs , their owner , their fans. I want the kings to face the mavs in the playoffs and own them for 3rd time out of 4 times. I want to make sure the mavs fans remember the day when KINGS RULED THE MAVS.

You sure are going by heigth alot lately. With your train of thought on height. Manute Bol should have been the greatest player ever. haha

Seriously though. when was the last time any King contested a shot. all they do is run at the players face with their hand. I am sure Kenny's can reach Dirks face as good as anybody. As far as Kenny getting posted up. PF that Actually post up and go up over the oppostion anymore is few and far between.

Our lack of verticality is the PRIMARY reason for our downfall this season. We play too close to the ground, and obscure nobody else's view of the hoop at basically any position. End result, no defense. No boards. Until/unless that is dramatically altered, we have no shot at a title.

Now...Dirk. The whole reason that Peja is able to defend him well is because Peja IS tall. He's a good physical match. But Dirk eats shorter players alive, just as he does slower ones. He's not Peja -- he's got a post game to go with the bombs. I think Kenny might be able to bother him...maybe. He'll bang him and has the quickness you need. But he can't alter Dirk's shot or even seriously obscure Dirk's view of the hoop. I'd actually much rather just put Peja on Dirk, since we know that matchup works, and use Thomas to counter Josh Howard hustler v. hustler.

At least once a day, I come across something that probably shouldn't ammuse me quite as much as it does.
