Anyone interested in a video game draft?

Anybody interested in a video game draft? (Didn't know where to post this, chose here because this draft is the closest to finishing; move if necessary) Let me know if interested.

You could start a new thread to see if people are interested.

I might be... but damn I'd be crushed if I didn't get a certain game that it pains me too much to think about.

As much as I enjoy video games, probably not, but I'd have to see the contest proposal/rules to say for sure. I just don't think there are enough high-quality games out there to go through a whole draft.

Maybe you should think about whether you would be thinking about PC vs. console gaming as well - personally, FPS games on the consoles suck because of the lack of mouse/keyboard support. If you are limiting it to PC only or console only that might simplify things somewhat.

Unless maybe you limit the number of players to 8 instead of 16 or something.

I wounder how many folks would actually vote on it - do that many people here play computer games?

I am game... there should be some solid rules, though otherwise this draft could be all over the place.

I thought of a few rules, but not really too in-depth at this point. I was thinking console only at first, but would be fine with PC games included (personally don't play many of them outside of Unreal and Half-life). Online/multiplayer features should not be considered imo though, just the single player versions of the game. One issue that may be run into is games released on multiple consoles.

What the heck is a videogame draft? Right now, I'm going old school, playing Icewind Dale. Love those games!....:D

If the draft idea doesn't pan out, what about some kind of video game olympics?

You better hope I don't pick before you. I am unstoppable with the LA Raiders.

The Bears and The 49ers are far and away the best teams on that game. Its not even close. The Raiders couldn't defend the pass if their life depended on it. However, Bo Jackson is a beast. You get that guy in excellent and you don't need any defense.

I think the "Draft" formula works well for any bounded set -- no idea why it would not for video games as well. Certainly have been no more video games released over the years than there have been albums through the ages, or pretty girls through the ages.

The only real problem I could see is that, retro appeal aside, video games, unlike music or girls, are an area where advances in technology have clearly made the games get better through the years. Or at least better looing.

That obviously crossed my mind too. I was thinking, just as we do with the girls, that take the games based on when they were in their prime

Haha, I wish I had mod powers, because I'm guessing the edit to your post was to add that bolded line.

It is completely untrue to say that all the best games have come out in the current hi-fi generation. Actually, some people (but not really me included) would crucify someone for saying that.

I thought about suggesting a video game draft a long time ago. The only problem is, we have 3 running drafts atm. I say, wait till the music one finishes in a week or two and then start it up.

I would be love to be a part of it if the rules did not restrict the games you could pick. An arcade only or a PC or console only would be a no go. I think it would be a very, very interesting draft if it was left wide open.

I'm with you on that (mouse and keyboard over dual analog sticks) but one console FPS did stick out to me. It was Medal of Honor Heroes 2 on the Wii. It reminded me so much of Counter Strike. It played great with the IR with the Wii remote and movement with the stick on nunchuck. I had to quit that game cold it was too addicting (ranked 70th in the world).

Grenades were one of the best thing about the game the way you could pull the pine and cook the grenade and then lightly nudge the remote to drop it at your feet to an attacker you snuck up on. The way you could swing the Wii remote and lob it across the screen to a crowd of enemies behind some cover. The ability to slightly skew the angle of a throw to ricochet off the walls down a hallway to someone camping on the other side.

I refuse to get addicted to these online shooters again, but a new Call of Duty is being made for the Wii and it is suppose to run on the COD4 engine and won't be a dirty port... there goes my free time...

Once you burn through .... the list might start getting pretty short on the PC. I guess you could throw in the .... games in as well, but I think they are more trendy and not truly "great" games, from the few experiences I've had with them.
No videogame thread would be complete without Nintendo classics and key franchises like Zelda, Mario etc..

No more drafts for me though.

Yeah, this was posted in the music draft thread first. i intended on waiting for 1 draft to be over before starting this

i would support a wide open video game draft. I think it would be stupid to limit it to one system.

I intended on doing it with consoles only (playstation, xbox, nintendo, sega, etc.) but i'd have no problem with having it wide open. It probably wouldn't change my list a whole lot anyway.

Ugh, that would have been terrible. You have to include PC and arcade at the very least along with consoles.

If it is his draft, he can do whatever he wants. ;)

I never played too many arcade games, by favorites were limited to a handful I was able to play at the roller skating rink in the next town when I was a kid.

Haven't most arcade games been released on consoles?

Not all have been superior adaptations. So I think it's almost necessary to mix arcade, PC and console games.

I also think a very powerful "prime clause" as in the Babe Draft would have to be in effect.

How can a video game go out of its prime? Dust in the cartridge, scratch on the disc?

If you mean best versions available...well that's totally opinion.
