ascension is formal, alluding to our "royal" title. It also alludes to "Ascending the throne" (kings, throne, title, championship) without being too in your face and corny about it.

I was embarrassed when I first heard it and couldn't really believe it at first. It still embarrasses me each time I see it or hear it. I felt sorry for the rah rah staff at the arena at my last game when they said it out loud. I think administration is over staffed.
