Anyone else embarrased by the "Here we Rise" thing?

There was a post on it here a few weeks back. I'm certainly not "embarrassed" by it but I feel it is cheesy and trying too hard.

I have the comcast network on directv and I was watching a couple of kings programs and that damn commercial came on at least 20 times. It's honestly the worst thing I've ever seen in my life.

Am confused. That link takes you to a "Rise Together" spot for the Thunder (which also labors under some cheesy voiceover work -- what happened to the great classic voiceover guys?)

Was that what you were aiming for for a comparison ot the Kings "Here We rise" video? Or were you trying to link to the Here We Rise thing and just missed?

P.S. As an aside, just went to check out herewerise.com and they have changed up that vid a bit and added a new ending with a picture of the big banner on that building in West Sac. Its still not terribly moving, but its less cheesy now. An improvement.

the thunder's video is significantly better than the kings here we rise. i couldn't stay awake through it. at least theres some action in the thunder's video. a bit cheesy but action the fans want to see

california is in the middle of a gubernatorial election cycle, so i think the "here we rise" promo is an attempt to hitch the kings to the "promising future" sloganeering of candidacy advertisements...

however, the lack of irony or parody in the "here we rise" video is rather astounding...

I guess that was my point. Not only is the whole "here we rise" thing not well executed. It's also an almost exact copy of the franchise we're most likely to want to emulate. It just smells of, "let's do what OKC is doing".

I was embarrassed when I first heard it and couldn't really believe it at first. It still embarrasses me each time I see it or hear it. I felt sorry for the rah rah staff at the arena at my last game when they said it out loud. I think administration is over staffed.

Doesn't bother me one bit.

I saw the picture on the building in west Sac that Bricks mentioned. It looks pretty cool IMO.

How about the fact that OKC did "Rise Together" earlier in the year. Does that strike you as terrifficly uncreative?

What, because two different teams, both of which believe their fortunes are on the way up, both used the word "rise" in a promotional campaign? Seriously, it seems like quite a needless knock on our team. Promotional campaigns rarely turn out to be considered 50 years down the road as outstanding examples of period art, I don't see why you would expect this to be any different.

Yes. I wonder if it was an intentional steal of the general idea or that no one actually checked to see there was another similar ad campaign?

They actually pick some kind of motto for each season to key the ad campaign. I won't say it embarrasses me, because I'm not convinced that other teams have markedly better ads. On the other hand, while I understand the attempt to tie the Kings to the fans and the city, the execution just seems to fall short. They definitely could have used a better voice-over voice. The impact of it depends as much on the voice as the script, methinks.

Edit: It will be embarrassing if we really fall flat on our faces this year, though. The we'll have the follow-up version, "Here We Trip." ;)

Small market. Small budget. Small ideas.

Not too embarrassing given the circumstances. Though, I think I'll look to see if they have any design positions open. Cheap doesn't always have to equal bad.

Yes. It's the use of the word "rise". That combined with the fact that it's OKC and was done well before the Kings did theirs. I don't expect an "outstanding example of period art", but I do expect more than a bad imitation of another franchise.

Could I do better; I think so. The Kings were terrible, then they were amazing for a few years. Not only that, the "good" team, played with a high level of charisma. They were "good", but they were more than that. They were exciting. Once we traded Webber, we were pretty much forgetful though Bonzi and Artest did provide some excitement for a short bit there. In any case, it's been rough for a while. I'd play on the emotional attachment to that wonderful team. "The Kings are back". Mix highlights of our dream team with the highlights of the new team. Reke ROY, drafting DMC. Basically, acknowledge that we've been fielding an inferior product, but that's a thing of the past.

Actually, I disagree with that. Fans held on to their love for that old team. We had our ripped out. I think it was more than time enough to move on. That doesn't mean forget, but to place that team amidst other cherished memories. That's why I think Webber's and Divac's jersey retirement last year was good timing.

Fans need to be ready to love a new team, not to compare them to the old team. Its almost impossible for a new team to ever live up to a legendary team for Kings fans. We have to start building a love for a new team. Hopefully, that's what we have started to put together. A new team to love. Hopefully it is a new beginning to a great team that we can love again for the team they become together. Maybe it could have been "Together as One" or "United We Stand." Wait, maybe I'm not so good at this..... ;)

How bout "Ascension?"

ascension is formal, alluding to our "royal" title. It also alludes to "Ascending the throne" (kings, throne, title, championship) without being too in your face and corny about it.

It's harder to fit on a banner, though.
