Any movements for C-Webb? (merged)

He really needs to retire he has little to nothing in the tank. He did have some nice spots during last season but he just looked terrible in the playoffs. Really I don't now what little he would be able to give to the mavs that they don't already have, I really don't think he will be playing much next season. That knee injury really killed his career, in general knee injuries is the downfall of all big man.

Its ok, let him play for the mavs. I really would leave to see Yao work him over again. I love CWebb but yea, that knee injury just obliterated his career. When Yao Ming routinely is blowing by you, I think its time to hang it up.

And as someone who's recovering from a major knee surgery (actually a surgery worse than microfracture surgery), you're never the same after something like that happens. I can't even run and its been over a year since my surgery.

1 - I recognize that Webber’s injury occurring in Dallas was incidental at best; there wasn’t even a Mavericks player near him when he went down, so I don’t hold that against them in any way whatsoever.

2 - I don't hate Mark Cuban.

The Dallas Mavericks have been even more obnoxious and disrespectful to Arco over the past few years than the Lakers ever thought of being. The idea of seeing Webb on OUR court in their jersey puts my spleen in mortal jeopardy of being forcibly ejected out of my nostrils.

As for hating Mark Cuban, it has nothing to do with that for me. I don't necessarily care for him, but I don't hold anything against him, either.

I don't hold anything against the Mavs, either. They don't really have any players that I can't stand (I don't think they ever did, actually), and I don't dislike their coach. Never enjoyed interacting with their fans, but that's a different story.

I just don't really want to see Webber suiting up for - and possibly winning a championship with - the team we were playing when our championship hopes went up in smoke. I know it's not the Mavs fault, but it's too close to home for me, especially since Webber is one of my all-time favorites and I've followed his entire career, from college, and always pulled for him. I can't see myself pulling for Webber to get a ring while coming off the bench for the Dallas Mavericks.

I'd much rather see him go to Boston or Chicago or Cleveland, or even Houston. Even Phoenix. But not Dallas.

Oh, don't get me wrong, so would I: my "best-case" scenario involves Webber going to Houston as the starting PF/backup C and winning a title with Adelman... I just don't have the vitriolic reaction to the Mavericks that some people here do.

C-Webb to Mavs, really?

So the Internet's blowing up tonight (Sunday) with reports that an LA radio station has C-Webb, yes, Chris Webber, ready to sign a deal with the Mavericks, with the Mavs giving him the full mid-level exception, $5.36 million...hey, why not? might as well spend the thing, and C-Webb could become a signature add if his veteran body can hold up and if he's ready to embrace a reserve role on a team led by a coach with unwavering championship aspirations.
I don't know about you, but late summer Sundays are for relaxing with family, so I gave Donnie Nelson a rare Sunday night off. Eddie Jones is expected to be at the Mavs' offices for a physical Monday before his deal for $1.83 million this season can be finalized.
Perhaps Webber is close in tow. The Mavs clearly could use veteran help to back up Dirk and help Avery ease up just a bit on Dirk's minutes while feeling comfortable that the sub can hold the fort for a few minutes. The Mavs have long had their eye on Webber and P.J. Brown, who's been mulling retirement, but could also command the full MLE from the Mavs or Phoenix or Boston or maybe even others -- everyone it seems needs size in the paint.
Webber has said it's either Detroit or Dallas, so if he signs with the Mavs, figure Brown heads to the Suns. That would make for some interesting analysis of two aging forward-centers as the season goes along.
For Webber, to sign with the Mavs has to be a little strange seeing how his career forever changed at the AAC during the 2003 playoffs when he blew out his knee in a horrible injury under the basket. That Sacramento team was really good and still took the Mavs to 7 games. With Webber healthy throughout, I think that Kings team could have won the championship. The Spurs beat the Mavs (without Dirk) in six games in the West finals and went on to win it all.

Center: Dampier, Diop, Mbenga
PF: Nowitzki, Webber
SF: Howard, Stackhouse
SG:Buckner, E. Jones, George
PG: Terry, Harris, Barea

Clearly with the signings of veterans Webber and Jones this offseason the Mavs are still trying to find ways to win that elusive championship.

This actually looks like a rehash of the rumor that was floating around last week.

What I read indicates the Mavs may be the only team left with interest in CWebb. He can help someone as he did the Pistons. But enough now? Hard to say. He only wants a team with chance at finals and that limits who and why a bunch.

Boston is the overall best fit for C-Webb. Dallas, Houston, Detroit 2nd/3rd/4th. San Antonio there isn't any room, and his lacking defense probably wouldn't fit with Popovich.

Perkins I think would still start at center if Webber goes to Boston though. Due to being that helper big man for KG on defense and on the boards, finish around the paint. Which is what Perkins role will be. Ala Olowokandi/Ervin Johnson in Minnesota, 03-04.

I can't help but feel he's yesterday's news to them and they'd just as soon never see him again...

You know, I've long banished any consideration of Webb coming back from my head, but after your post I considered it, and it actually brought a smile to my face.

I'm all for rebuilding and shipping all the vets out of town, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon. I really don't want the team to stay mediocre, but--hell with it--if this team gets off to a nice start and surprises some people, starts looking like it could contend for a playoff spot, then why not? I'd be on the letter writing campaign to the Maloofs to bring him back, for one last run.

I really didn't want C-Webb to leave Detroit, but Dumars prefered damn amir johnson over him. If he's about to leave I'd like to see him in Dallas as a starting center or Houston but i really doubt they will give up on Scola and hayes...

Is there anything specific that would give you that feeling? The Maloofs I know have this innate ability to be able to move on. But not to the point that they would forget where they come from or who helped them get there would they? Or am I missing something.

I don't know about C-Webbs next moves in distant future, but yesterday (at Vlades Farwell party event) he went public with following statement:
" I am the first black Serbian, and my name is Chris Webberovich!"

It was funny as hell, and people were laughing like crazy.

They were, by many accounts, the driving force behind dumping him in the first place. They were also, at least in Joe's case, clearly feeding Voison's hateorama. And after Webb left not a word of acknowledgement escaped the Maloof's lips. All evidence points very much toward petulant owners throwing a snitfit when it comes to Webb, and indeed that entire team (and coach), with the possible exception of Vlade.
