Any movements for C-Webb? (merged)

I'd be willing to bet he will be wearing a Boston uni next season. He has always expressed his deep friendship with Garnett and now he sees it as his opportunity to play with his friend and get a ring. he can be Garnetts backup and actually know the guy in front of him is better.

I read he is going to Dallas,Orlando, or back to Detroit and that is what his dad is pushing for for him to go back to Detroit.

I'm notoriously pro-Webber, and I'd love to see that happen... but I honestly don't think Webber's ready to swallow that much pride yet.

I think he is. In fact didn't he contimplate retirement? He only has one reason to play any longer and that is to get a championship. He is looking for the team that gives him the best chance at that. He is a still a good player and would fill a nice role in Boston with about 20-25 min a game. he could start in Houston but, like a I said he and KG are tight. Lets just say I called it here.

I'd have to agree with you here Entity. At this point, Webb just wants to be a contributor towards a championship...and that's probably his best bet, at this point. He isnt pulling a Mitch Richmond going to LA to ride the bench for 2.2 pts a game, he can still play...but his time is running out, definitely.

My bet is on Boston, as well. He could still receive significant playing time, and be on a championship contender.

As an aside, Phil Jackson didn't know how to use Richmond. He had a core set of eight players, and he just didn't get any significant playing time. In my opinion, he wasn't deliberately riding coattails. I'm not unbiased, of course. :)

i would assime boston... do they still have their mle? because they need a pg bad... and who is their back up center? is kandi still there?

The key thing is what is a "contributor" from Webb's perspective? That great player pride of his could be his undoing. Also why a place like Dallas made absolutely no sense. Orlando? What's the point? Detroit is viable, but frankly I think that team is just about washed up and has pretty much jumped the shark. Be looking for scapegoats and youth here pretty soon, and Webb might be well advised to move on. But Boston could be a lot of fun. Splitting time wiht Perkins at C and backing up KG at the 4. Those old hungry vets could really put on a show. The other place which just made sense to me, but maybe nto to the principles, was down to Houston to help Rick teach them that system. Split time with Scola, go smallball behind Yao. These are places where he still has a significant role to play, albeit as facilitator/teacher rather than star. Its time for Webb to channel his inner Bill Walton (with the Cs late in his career).

Perkins doesn't strike me as a starting caliber center, so I could actually see Webber starting at center in Boston, alongside Garnett.

I'd much rather see that than see him in Dallas. Houston I could swallow, but not Dallas. Especially winning a ring there. I'd curl up in a ball and die, L'il Ann style.

I think I'll be more interested in the NBA this season than last season...I hope he goes to Houston. I'm pulling for Houston more than Boston this season (after the Kings, of course)...

Gotta Agree with you on this one. Boston seems to make the most sense for Webb and for Boston, they need some help beyond those 3 guys. Webb would be great IMO. Houston is tolerable but Dallas is a resounding no.

Can I ask what L'il Ann is in reference to?

Ever read "Where the Red Fern Grows"? If you haven't, then never mind...

It's been a few years but yeah I've read it. I thought that's what you were referring to, it just kinda took me aback when I saw it. A favorite of mine when I was in Jr. high btw (haven't read it since).

i might actually get league pass this season because there are actually a few teams with really interesting seasons for 2007 (houston, boston, portland, toronto). excited about it, even with the plight the kings are in.

Another thing that wouldn't surprise me is that he waits and signs with a team later in the season. It'll give his knees some extra rest and also he'll be able to check out where he may fit best and how these new power teams (Boston and Houston) work out.

Yeah, kind of like how some baseball players who are older wait to sign because they need rest or something. If he sits out a portion of the season but keeps working out he should be rejuvenated or whatever you call it by the time the POs start.

Perhaps, and there would be contenders at that point lining up for a little nitro burst late in the season to separate them. He would be an oft-discussed wildcard late in the season, which might be good for the ego as well as the tired old legs. But I still have to wonder if that passes the Webb pride test. He went to the Pistons rather than a Dallas or whoever last year so he could start and be a major factor for a contending team. If they won, he could say he was a big piece to the puzzle, rather than just an extra bench guy. Has he reached a point where he's ready to jump on the bus late in a season and just try to give it a little extra kick? Or is he still looking to be an integral piece for somebody?

Mavericks: Webber, Posey in the Works

Various reports cited by a Los Angeles radio station have the Dallas Mavericks close to signing Detroit Pistons free agent forward Chris Webber to a one-year deal using their mid-level exception. The Mavericks are willing to offer him the entire MLE, but would prefer to give him $3.5 million and use the rest to add one more piece to the roster.

The other piece the Mavericks are interested in is veteran swingman and defensive specialist James Posey, who has been around the NBA block but was most recently a member of the Miami Heat.

Webber would add another scoring threat in the front court and a that ever-elusive back-up to Dirk Nowitzki. Posey would bring rebounding and the ability to push the ball, penetrate, and score on the break. He would also add one more player with championship experience to a roster in need of playoff leadership.

More on this story as it develops!

I think Dallas is a good spot for him because he can back up Dirk for those 10 to 15 minutes a night and a little also at backup center. At this point of his career this would be a good move for CWebb IMO.

Sorry, but that sucks big time. I don't care what the name on the back is, I will NEVER root for someone whose jersey says Dallas on the front.

The idea he'd sign with the team we were playing when his injury pretty much dashed all our hopes and dreams to mere dust is beyond unacceptable to me.

My only hope is that it's only being reported at Hoopsworld.

Considering our two team's recently fiercely entangled playoff histories, I can certainly sympathize with your feelings VF, but for my own part I am very, very excited about the prospect of Webber coming to Dallas (seemingly more so than many of my fellow Mavs fans). And on a light note, if CWebb does in fact come to Big D, I will not only make it a life goal of mine to not only aquire one of those jerseys that you mention above, but to get a game-worn #4 (from Mei-Gray or directly from the Mavs to join my game-worn stable of Bradley, Tarpley, Jimmy Jackson, Podkolzin, and T. Davis jerseys :D )...

Also, this is what Webber had to say about possible 07-08 playing possibilities during an interview with Slam magazine at the 'Chris Webber Bada Bling' charity event in Las Vegas last week...

MT
: You gonna stay with Detroit? What’s going on with that?

Chris Webber: I don’t know. I would love to. Right now I’m thinking about Detroit and Dallas, so you never know. Watch out for BShaw though he’s trying to get me in LA!

And here are some Gavin Maloof quotes from the same event just for good measure :D :

p1_maloof.jpg

MT: What are your thoughts on the Bada Bling event and could you reflect on the time Chris spent in Sacramento?

Gavin Maloof: First of all we are really proud of Chris Webber and his contributions to charitable events. What he’s doing is so good. When we had him with the Kings, he was definitely the cornerstone of the franchise. We’ll never forget what he did for our team.

MT: What’s going on with the new arena?

Gavin Maloof: Right now, we are just waiting on the David Stern’s office to come back with a plan. They’ve been working on that for the past 6-8 months. They’ll present us a plan in the upcoming weeks. It’s what they tend to do. The NBA took over the process. We’re kind of out of the process at this point.

As you should be. He'd give your offense another dimension, especially in the playoffs.

But I come this close to barfing every time I think about Webber playing for Dallas. DON'T DO IT, CHRIS!!! DON'T FRICKIN' DO IT!!!

Fine, I'll be the dissenting voice... I don't see what all the brouhaha is. I mean, I could understand the vitriol if he were playing for the gd lakers... but Dallas? I don't get it.

Probably the memories of his injury against Dallas, from which the Kings never recovered...

plus, it seems that one of the new pre-reqs for being a Kingsfan is having a disdain for Mark Cuban. :)

He really needs to retire he has little to nothing in the tank. He did have some nice spots during last season but he just looked terrible in the playoffs. Really I don't now what little he would be able to give to the mavs that they don't already have, I really don't think he will be playing much next season. That knee injury really killed his career, in general knee injuries is the downfall of all big man.
