Don't Make Me Use The Bat
I was reading this article for its tidbit about the Maloofs thinking it was a good idea to cozy up with gamblers to help the integrity of the game
when I noticed the next section which mentioned that the Warriors have been making Anthony Randolph available again and are desperate to make a move for more immediate help.
For those who don't know, Randolph is a 2nd year 21yr old hyper-athletic 6'10" SF/PF who has shown flashes of brilliance but has been unable to sustain (and he is another player who does not get along with Nellie). He is a freaky rebounder for his lack of bulk, a shotblocker, Just last week he dropped 28pts 13rebs 5ast 1stl 1blk on Orlando. And still the Warriros are stupid and appear willing to move him for immediate help. Well, I think we may be able to "help" them.
Randolph has value, they know it, so they aren't going to just give him away. And he has a teammate who has occasinally been suggestd as an answer for us as well -- 6'11" C Andris Biedrins, who averaged 11pts 11rebs and 1.6blks last season, but has been hurt pretty much all year this year. It may seem that he has been aroudn forever, but he came into the league at 18 and is still only 23 himself. Neither Biedrins nor Randolph are phsyical bangers, whihc might hurt us eventually -- they are both skinny. But they get the job done on the glass and wiht shotblocking, things we are desperate for. If the Warriors too are deperate, now is the time to strike. I see two realistic possiblities:
1)
Kevin Martin $10.2mil (4years)
Sean May $1.0mil (ender)
for
Andris Biedrins $9mil (5 years)
Anthony Randolph $1.8mil (3 years)
positives: we instantly get big long and atheltic up front, have a three man big man rotation of Hawes/JT/Biedrins, and can use have Randolph as an atheltic mismatch PF against the right opponents. We gain a ton of shotblocking, length, and rebounding. Meanwhile Nellie gains another small running guard that he lusts over, and Kevin could well average 25ppg for them as their "immediate help". The Ellis/Martin all softie scorer bckcourt comes into being, just for a different team.
negatives: we use up the Kevin chip, and since we took 2 players back for 1 injured one, until we moved Noc as well minutes would be tight up front. And is even Nellie nutty enoguh to trade away his frontcourt fro Kevin and contiue starting Mikki and maybe even Sean May until Turiaf and Wright come back from injury?
2)
Andres Nocioni $7.5mil (3 years)
Spencer Hawes $2.3mil (2 years)
for
Andris Biedrins $9mil (5 years)
Anthony Randolph $1.8mil (3 years)
positives: an equal positional swap, minutes are just switched form Hawes to Biedrins and from Noc to Randolph. We get younger, more atheltic, and better on the glass. We keep Kevin. The Warriors get some of their immediate help, Nellie quite possibly gets his dream starting PF/C and has both guys chucking threes all night long.
negatives: we don't get the three big man frontcourt we would under the other trade, and are still left with just two, now Biedrins and JT, although Randolph is a more legit 4/3 option than Noc. We don't solve the minutes crunch when Kevin and Cisoc return. We get a young talent, but give up one too in Hawes. The Warriors lose their only shotblocking/rebounding and don't get back the flashy potential impact player in Kevin. They might be able to get a better offer for a randolph/Biedrins package.
