Andrea Bargnani not the next King (merged)

Can kind of shoot a three. That's been overblown for a long time. He stopped hitting them somewhere back around 2010. Guys like Cuz don't scare me, because they have the fire, you just have to redirect it. I never know what to do with guys who just don't care enough. No idea how you reach a Bargs and get him to play up to his talent. Like a lot of our team though, lot of talent for a HOF coach if that coach sticks to coaching and keeps his junk in his pants. We've got former All Stars, All NBA guys, former champions, #1 picks, All Stars, gold medalists...the talent is finally there.

Has there been a better offseason, on paper...in Sacramento history?

Yeah it will, you'll get a kick out of Dwill for sure. I'm not sure how much Bargnani is going to help us. As long as he's serviceable in short spurts off the bench, our 2nd unit defens is pretty solid so well be able to pick up his slack. Hopefully he stays healthy, he's missed like half the season the past few years hasn't he?
This past season he did, always a bit injury prone. Bargs will likely be an okay off the bench scoring option.

Love it if we can sign him cheap.

He's a poor man's Kevin Love next to either Boogie or WCS, and that's just fine with me.

I don't want this guy anywhere near the Kings. We have plenty of guys who can shoot threes already (Collison, McLemore, Belinelli, Gay, Casspi, Butler). Our perimeter defense is already a weak spot with Belinelli expected to play a big role in the rotation and neither Gay nor Casspi being particularly adept 1 on 1 defenders. If Bargnani ends up playing more minutes than both Cauley-Stein and Moreland (which he very well could considering both are rookies) suddenly our interior defense is looking like a problem as well. This is not a good signing for us at any price. Maybe Josh Smith is a pipedream but the last piece should be a veteran big who can stop somebody from scoring not a zero defense 7 foot jump shooter.

Count me in on the "rather have Smoove" bandwagon.

Smith is a better defender by far, better passer, better rebounder...

Bargs edges Smith out on shooting ability, that's it.

They both have awful bbiq and will make several dumb plays a game (minutes permitting).

Only reasons I see us going Bargs over Smith is $$$ and role.

If Bargs comes cheap and doesn't expect a lot of minutes, I guess I'll take him.

Agreed, I'm guessing Vlade got word that we went able to get Smoove. Otherwise I don't see us going after him.

Scola and Dorell Wright were my hopes for 3rd SF & PF. Caron Butler instead of Wright I can't quibble with. Maybe not as good a player at this point but a better locker room/chemistry guy.

Bargnani instead of Scola stings though. Especially since Scola apparently signed for only $3M.

Well for 15 mins a night I dont think its that bad to have Bargs on the floor. When you really think about it, the only big guy we have that can score is Cousins. So it certainly does not hurt to add some front court shooting and scoring for when you need it.
Plus, he is a very talented player who averaged 20ppg so im kinda ok with it.

Rondo/Collison/Miller

Mclemore/Belenelli/Anderson

Gay/Casspi/Butler

Cousins/Bargnani/Moreland

Cauley-Stein/Koufas

resign Mille and you got yourself a team!

GOOD JOB VLADE!!!!

Seems we would be better off playing Gay at PF and then Casspi or Butler at the 3 instead of squeezing any time out there for Barg.

Knicks fan here. This guy is
-a horrible rebounder
- he can't defend to save his life
- terrible IQ
-Low impact player career 0.59 WS48
He is just a decent shooter with decent scoring. Seems like we are switching players with the exact same skill set. It will be interesting to see who does better in their new settings.

Don't disagree with anything you are saying but he's a good 4th big off the bench to stretch the floor. That's all I want at this point

Think he will take a role as the 4th big here? When you start stacking talent and then tell the talent they're going to get a couple minutes here and there when they were used to getting 25-30 mins then that might create locker room problems.

Not if they all know that Vlade is trying to lead this team to a championship. With all due respect, I think people often misjudge the psyches of professional athletes. 98 percent of them just want to win. They just. Want. To win. And that's what our promise is now. It's "come play for us, look at our roster, we're serious about winning, and we have the leadership (me, Vlade), that will make sure that our whole organization is moving towards that goal. Come help us win a championship."

Nobody associated with the Kings in the past 5 years would have been able to say that. Vlade can. And that's one reason why our moves seem to have been getting better (cheaper yes, but higher value the more we sign. Butler for two years at the vet min is an incredible value). These guys all have tens of millions in the bank. If they're not complete idiots with their money, their family is set up for generations. Vlade's is an appeal to glory. They can already pay for their grandkids college education, now they want to be able to tell them about the time they dove for a loose ball in the finals to help save a game.

Valde brings an understanding of a player's true motivations. You're damn right Cousins is "hype" for this season. Welcome to leadership, Kingsfans.

He's going to be great as a King. Can't see why people would be more accepting of Rondo at $10mpy vs. Bargs at >$5mph.

It's not like he's going to be starting for us. Can anyone seriously tell me they'd rather have Moreland in vs. Bargs? It's arguable that Moreland is even a NBA caliber player.

The thing about Smith is, he's never seen a shot he didn't like. Bargs may not be the smartest guy, but ill advised shots isn't his forte, either. i dont want anyone shooting us out of games because thats the last thing we need, honestly.

Let's not get crazy. He's one of the softest, laziest and worst defenders in the league. If he could provide floor spacing for 10 plus minutes a night, it's not a bad deal. But he isn't going to be "great" at anything at this point in his career. If this is any higher that $3M, we're going to get rightfully skewered for that deal.

What's wrong with Moreland? Just because he hasn't gotten the chance to prove himself doesn't mean hes a scrub.

This would be a good signing if we can't get josh smith.

When three of our four bigs are defensive, we need someone to spread the floor.

I seem to sense a European flavor to vlade's signings:cool:

he is a very soft player indeed...but they want to stretch the floor a bit off the bench, if he plays 10-15 minutes I won't mind.

DMC and Rondo make up for lack of toughness. I like the pick. We had zero offense coming off the bench last year. Completely different story this year.

Are you kidding? Yes - I would rather have Moreland in than Bargs! About 7 times out of 10! But then they're completely different players. So if I want a rebounder and a rim protector, I want Moreland in and Bargs out.

Bringing Bargs is telling me that Josh Smith wanted more money than the Kings either had or were willing to give out so they had a fall back plan just in case. Bargs is a streaky 3 point shooter really...can't call him a offensive threat but if he can just be out there to make some open shots and not be a cone on defense, I suppose for a one year deal, why not?

Like Cauley Stein, we won't really see Moreland's impact on a game in a summer league environment. Being around the main guys, coaching staff will do him some good and get it implanted in his brain that he can be a contributor off the bench if he becomes a goalie and grabs some rebounds.

You noticed that too? :)

I was actually additionally interested in Casspi signing just to strengthen that segment of the team/give it more of a voice. But going for Bargs may be a bridge too far. If we sign Darko next, I'm officially off the Vlade bandwagon. :p

This may also be well timed leak, for josh smith to see, just like when all of the sudden the kings were in serious talks with Patrick Beverley and then Rondo miraculously was signed the next day.

Just a thought
