I've written about Drummond a couple of times in the prospects thread. To quote myself, " Drummond and Cousins paired together would be a nightmare for the rest of the league". Unfortunately, the likelyhood of that happening is extremely remote. Drummond, if he applies himself will likely be the first or second pick in the next draft. Anthony Davis being his only serious competition as of this writing. Of course they haven't played a game yet, so all that can change. No one would have predicted that Williams would go as high as he did in the last draft before the season began. So you never know.
As for comparisons, I'll go with what most of the scouts are saying. The best comparison is that he's a cross between Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire. He's similiar to Howard with his athleticism, size and strength, but a lot like Stoudemire with his skill level. I've had the pleasure of seeing Drummond play 4 or 5 times over the last two years, and there is no denying his talent. But he's not without flaws. He's capable of making great passes. But he's also prone to making some very ill advised passes. But I'm nitpickinig here. His biggest flaw is lack of effort at times. Especially against inferior opponets. There are times when he just disappears. He did this in one of the Adios Nations games and he got his butt sent to the bench. I don't know what the coach said in the lockerroom, but he came out newly inspired in the second half and just dominated the game.
He's a terrific talent, and in the future could be the one everyone else is compared to. This next draft is going to be a very deep one with top talent extended all the way through the lottery. If I were the Kings, and I could make a trade with one of the teams likely to be in the lottery for their 1st round pick, I'd do it in a heartbeat as long as I'm not giving up one of my top three or four players. Not likely, but I can dream..
